    I was just singing Amazing Grace to myself and thinking how cool it would sound to this tune, so I googled it. I can't believe it already exists!!!!!

    i'm in my 60's, and that's the way we sang it back in the 'hippie days' when i was young - and when it was new to have drums and guitars and such in a church service, and when many churches refused to allow them at all lol.

    Years ago, my Sunday school class would sing Amazing Grace to the tune of Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles, with a few lyrics tweeked. I've also heard this to the theme from Gilligan's Island. Both of these are on you tube videos.

    My best friend Tina did this same song in the mall in a karaoke contest no one had heard it sang like that but there may had been someone out there doing it but as far as i know she was the first, when she went to sing a song, (she only sang gospel) there wasn't that many melodies to pick from, but she did it and won first place! Now I see it a lot on the internet she did that song back in 2000. You should check it out. God Bless..

    A high school band in Rankin County, MS was ordered off the field for playing "How Great Thou Art" because if was a religious song. This goes to show that is isn't the tune that makes it religious (or rock and roll for that matter), but the words. A lady sang this same song arrangement at our church several years ago.

    amazing grace is about how grace relieved fears ...and how grace has kept him safe thus far....just sung to the tune to The house of the rising sun...both awesome songs and music...no matter the topic...it does them both justice.so its your opinion then that The house of the rising sun...being about a brothel shouldnt be mixed with a song about grace being amazing...ok

    • @marks6491
      @marks6491 Před 5 lety +2

      Judy, Don't judge. You say this song originally about a brothel, is not OK. Judy, I drove Taxi at night in downtown Toronto and the people who were the most receptive to hear my testimony about Jesus were the street hookers. It always amazed me. God uses what HE desires to reach the lost. Be bold in Jesus, you will never regret it.

    this comment is for those who think it's wrong for this song to be sung to this tune. i think, instead, that john wesley, the guy who wrote the song, would be thrilled! from a young age he was a sailor on a slave ship, someone who was apparently such a ba that even the other sailors were afraid of him sometimes; in other words, not the nicest guy. he had been brought up by a religious mother, had been taught scripture, prayer, etc., but had put that all behind him after she died. one night his ship hit a storm that lasted for several hours, not all on board survived, and he was the one at the wheel. he said later that he started praying, prayed the entire time apparently, and that was the beginning of his transformation. he continued as a sailor for a few years, but never again was the same type of man. when he left the sea he began speaking in churches and eventually became a preacher. he said that he wrote this hymn once when he was preparing a sermon and thinking about what a wretch he had been when god saved him from those stormy seas. finally, i imagine he'd also had plenty of experiences in places like those mentioned in 'the house of the rising sun', so that's why i say i can't imagine him having a problem with the combination of the 2. he'd probably just think it put more emphasis on the point he was trying to make.

    Blasphemous..and proof that more than just the words matter. The music is just as integral to glorifying God as the lyrics. You took a song written about the unmerited favor of God and the difference it makes in a person’s life and put it with music about prostitution, drunkenness, and gambling. Might I add, for entertainment value, to which you were more than likely paid for. For your sake’s I hope you find the shame in this.

      +galglad - I think many a "church song" got their tune from secular or bar music.
      It's just MUSIC, which is not in and of itself evil. They took a song about a "house of ill repute" and flipped it and made it about amazing grace ... (which by the way, also applies to prostitutes) --- We are ALL sinners. Just sayin'
