I'm am a boatbuilder with more than 40 years experience. I'm very impressed with the construction methods used in these boats.
I've just been to a boatshow where all of the vessels I viewed had balsa cored vacuum infused hulls.
There will be lots of problems with these balsa cored hulls in the future as opposed to the way the Privilege is constructed.
    Hats off to you guys.
Very impressive. True boatbuilders of the modern methods.
I have done lots of infusion with performance yachts.
You guys are at the cutting edge with best methods.
Balsa core is very stiff but if not done correctly, and most don't, then the rot can run end to end through the hull eventually. I've seen it with my own eyes.
Witness the way bulkheads were just bogged and tabbed by one builder who will not be named, causing a timebomb of moving disintegrating bulkheads.
To me , that was astounding that supposedly knowledgeable builders would do that to ocean going vessels. Makes one wonder what other shortcuts they were doing??
    Excellent work Priviledge 😊

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate your feedback, particularly because your comments are grounded in experience. This is something that we can't readily display at the boat show, yet, like you say, it is critical that it be done correctly.

@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica I would agree with balsa core. For me boats with balsa core is a big No NO.

Nice, love the quality and attention to detail throughout. Well done

Definitely well built, which until fairly recently, I think we all assumed, incorrectly, most Catamarans were. Even the cross section on that ply, puts others bulkheads to shame. Thanks for sharing. 😎⚓️🇦🇺

The areas that you are installing the plywood such as block heads have you considered alterative materials. Some builders are starting to use carbon fibre in areas of tensile strength even though if the carbon fibre starts to crack to will keep running until you drill it out in that area to then complete the repair

I believe you said there was a circumnavigating model bound for a US show sometime this year?

    • @PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica
      @PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica  Před 2 lety +2

We will have a new 580 in time for the upcoming Annapolis Boat Show in October. However, this will not be a circumnavigator - it will have a forward cockpit with access from the salon and master cabin. It will also be a galley up layout. The model on display at the International Multihull Show is a circumnavigator and the forward cockpit has been replaced with additional storage area. We will try to get some photos and video while at the show on April 20 - 24.

14 months to build one of these.

  • @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665

Im glad you allow space for maintainance of systems .. so many designs and manufacturers undermine their vessels long term by making them unsustainable.
The other factor is propulsion systems are going to be undergoing a massive revolution in the next decade at most.. in Europe the targets have been set for 8 years.
The drive systems going to be electric and virtually maintainance free .. the energy supply will probably high output efficiency diesel electric generators supporting Na based batteries ..and regen under sail plus improved efficiency Hpvt pannels.
As GF and Carbon fiber are both demanding of fossil fuels, you might also start substituting recyclable greener alternatives like basalt fiber a plentiful and natural material ...which is actually superior to E glass, steel and closer to carbon in wt saving strength, it also is also better at impact resistance than Carbon and more stable.
Impregnated Hemp fiber boards could substitute for furniture backing panels rather than foams and help lock up Co2 without resorting to heavier woods.
