CCI Standard Velocity “Target” is all I shoot.. I have 4 22 lr firearms.. 1 rifle (Tippman Arms M4 Elite), and 3 handguns (Smith and Wesson Model 41 Performance Center) (Sig Sauer P322) Ruger Mark II Target 6” Stainless Bull Barrel)… All love this ammo and thankfully it’s also the least expensive CCI!!

It really goes to show how you need to test several different kinds of ammunition in your specific rifle. Of all the ammunition that you tried in your Ruger 10/22, my heavy barreled Remington 597 does the best with the Standard velocity (with similar results to yours), followed by the Mini Mags at a very close second place. My 16” barrel HATED Stingers; I could barely get 10 rounds to stay on an 8.5x11” sheet of loose leaf paper at 50 yards. I was disappointed and happy at the same time: disappointed because I like the idea of the speed that the stingers offer, but happy that the mini mags did better because they are cheaper to buy than the stingers are. Haha.
If I’m doing a competition or plinking, I use the standard velocity, but when I hunt small game, I swap over to the mini mags. I keep both anyways because my Sig 1911.22 lr cycles mini mags better than the SV 😉👍🏼

Always dope your scope/rifle to the ammo being used. Dope one for stingers, other for mini mags, etc.

  • @jenschristianjerupolsen90

I just sighted in my old single shot, heavy barrel Schultz & Larsen rifle with the 710fps... It shoots consistently two inch groups at 80 meters... 15 shots within 3 minutes, all within the two inch circle... Bolt action is the way to go 😉😉😉

CCI Green tag gives me the best overall average groupings, compared to any other CCI ammo. This is from 5 very nice .22’s and weeks of testing.

  • @flashcracker1
    @flashcracker1 Před 5 lety +3

I find the best grouping with my CZ 452 comes from subsonic rounds regardless of the manufacturer. It is true that different guns prefer different types of ammo; mine likes Winchester 40 grain subsonics the best. The problem with accuracy of high velocity rounds is caused by the transition of the bullet from supersonic to subsonic speed. I also find that cleaning the barrel infrequently is best to maintain a "lead lining" which seems to help.

I had similar experience with my CZ455 HB. Rifling is made for 40grains 1050fps. I suggest non coated bullets. This is the way...i tried 40kind of different ammo excluding them test after test at the range. Best ammo ever is Lapua Center X. Second best is CCI standard. I had decent results with ELEY sport.

Dude I shoot my 10/22 standard Takedown barrel this good with Winchester 555 bulk ammo, Backwards, through a mirror. Just wanted to swing it with some of the other guys in this video thread. My range is only 25 yards, they're very strict on gun handling and I go through a whole bunch of shooting when I get there so honest results with tired fingers aren't realiable. I do know three things for sure. 1. You are showing what CCI ammo works well in your barrel and hopefully, a tried and trued barrel with plenty of rounds through it to ensure its all worn in well. 2. Even with bulk ammo, the majority of the center of my targets are worn out. Jeest ignore that one up by the carriage clamp, nobody was supposed to be looking then anyways, and all them other "flyers". 3. My STNKIN range is closing on October 16th, 2020. Died of friggin effects of Covid economy. At my local gunstore, they have the bulk ammo out on a skid for us plinkers. That good good CCI stuff, well everything but minimags, are behind the shelf with the other rifle rounds. I'm cheap, I admit it. But it's more accurate, fun and less work then my 22 caliber break barrel springer pellet gun.
    Keep on shooting.
Oh, and that mirror shot, I was doing it between my legs too.

I found that I have to re-zero my sights for each different type of ammo. My favorite for all around accuracy and consistency is the CCI Mini Mag Copper Plated 40 gr round nose at 1235 fps. The faster rounds always shoot higher and faster doesn't always mean better. For example, like those crazy CCI Quik-Shok Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 32 Grain Plated Lead Hollow Points seem sexy but they you have to zero the gun just for them and they don't group that well. Just too hot.

Marlin M60 was made by new Remington group but was still accurate as my older JM Marlin. I have a Ruger 10-22 but haven't tried them in it. Maybe that would be a good idea. The CCI Standard 40gr. I like is pushing just under supersonic, 1070fps at the muzzle. What might happen is as the round nose pushes the air out of the way, the air may speed up as it passes over the profile, causing it to "crack" the sound barrier.

This week I had similar results from my Ruger 10/22 with standard factory barrell, mini mags were all over the place in a random 10 inch group, then I switched to Stingers and was able to put all 10 rounds through a hole the size of a 2 euro coin. Multiple times over. I guess some rifles just like certain types of ammo. It's a shame though because over here in Ireland a box of 100 mini mags cost 15-17 Euro but stingers are roughly €15 for box of 50 rounds.

After a lot of research and videos and my own tests you might want to put a pressure pad under your barrel, free floated Ruger barrels are not consistent. I’ve sold my target model and bought the Ruger Performance Competition Model, it is free floated but it has two contact connections between stock and receiver. It also has a better chamber which makes better groups. By adding the pressure pad and torquing the one contact screw to 30 inch pounds your target model will do much better. Thanks for your testing.

I got a bunch of mini mags after hearing they work great in a henry 22 but they suck compared to some sub sonics I got. Since 22 is hard to find right now I'm thinking of selling the unshot remainder of them secondhand because the accuracy is so bad I may as well just throw pebbles at the target.

Yea, I should do that. But, I just recently bought an LCR, and it's junk, too. Light primer strikes, about every 5 rounds. I'm just assuming that Ruger has dropped the ball, somewhere in quality control. A LOT OF PEOPLE are having issues with recent Ruger firearms, and the word is getting out. I personally, will NEVER buy another one. I wasted $650 on my last 2 Ruger purchases. There are plenty of other gun companies out there, that will be glad to take my money, and sell me reliable firearms. No sweat. I'm just done with Ruger. Period. They're gonna soon find out, that they won't make it long, on their "past" reputation. lol Both of those firearms now sit in the back of my gun case. They're too embarrassing to sell, or trade. lol

All barrels behave differently. I try everything considered quality ammo to narrow what a particular gun likes. For me, Wolf Match Target or SK Plus are tack drivers on my 10/22 Green Mountatn barrel precision build. Meanwhile, this ammo is just average in my other 10/22s. My shooting partner's 10/22 w/Kidd barrel likes the CCI Mini-Mags.
