With that people can be convinced to buy the iconic legendary electric Renault 5. Basically Renault needs to find a way to go around an EV competition where you can't beat Chinese EVs in price, equipment, god knows what... bringing back legendary models, modernise and electrifying them is something that Chinese car companies can literally cannot do.
Basically, if you cannot go through, go around it!
New Renault 5 is basically going around such competition. So I think it's a good idea to bring the new car like this.

Not reimagining (or as I'd say ruining) it as an SUV is the best decision on a car with so many positives and I'd say this is my new top contender for my next car

My first car 35 years ago, a green Renault 5 GTL with big rust in back harch... I loved it and went everywhere with it😊 and I see similarity with this one??? the shape put a smille on my face😆
Very exciting that we're going to see a car that is simultaneously an EV and quirky, that will be readily affordable for the masses. I don't think this will meet my particular needs, but it's such a huge step in the right direction for the average driver that it should be a real game-changer for the car market.

Owned the US version Lecar 81 model until 1997. Just got tired of the frequent maintenance. Fun car for sure.
Brilliant, all we need now is vivid 70’s colours and fluffy seat covers. We had a 1977 R registration 3 door in blue it was TL specification so it was basic but so good

I don't think you'd buy this in preference to a Tesla, you'd buy it as a 2nd car to a Tesla. A Model 3 LR AWD (red, obviously), or maybe a Y, to drive to your place in Provence, the Renault 5 (looks great in yellow) as your UK runaround.

VW ID.2 in 2026 what? Love the R5!
ID.2 has much better specs, at least from what Volkswagen is projecting. 56kWh battery, up to 450km of range, 125-130kWh charging power, 400+L boot/frunk space and much more space for the backseat passengers. The ID.2 is the perfect small allround car, it really could be used as the only car for a family. The Renault 5 on the other hand is more like a stylish lifestyle city vehicle or a secondary car

the version showed in the video, the top version with 150HP, will probably cost around 35K euros. Not exactly a "popular car" price. I love the retro design but it's just too expensive ...

@kingphiltheill Ah I see, perhaps because they share the similarities in boxy design I thought they would fit in the same segment. But I guess the R5 is more like a smaller hatch while the Ioniq 5 is a bigger hatch/crossover then.
@@someone............. The Ioniq is in fact larger in every dimension in comparison to a VW Golf. With a little bit of distance you don't see it at first. But when you approach the car it's quite a substantial thing.
The R5 seems to compete with smaller cars like a Polo or Corsa.
@@someone............. I just looked it up, I the Ioniq 5 is over 70 cm longer than the R5. 4.63 vs 3.92. It's a lot.
if they not reinvented it as a small SUV, then why does it look like one?
With its high-ish roofline (wich i would be Ok with, considering the battery package) and especially the black weel arches. i don't like those.
It will be much appreciated if they put gasoline engine with 250 HP

Petrol would be a lot slower. This goes 0-60 mph in 3.6s whereas the old Renault 5 Turbo is 6.9s which is more than twice as slow.

@DaMomento Just like cigarettes.... They were a big fashion on the movies etc... Now people know they kill. Petrol and Diesel kills and slowly people are learning.
