    I like the SquareOff Pro, but I don't like that they lock some features behind a subscription paywall. This might be a dealbreaker for some people.

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 3 měsíci +1

      i dont think anyone should be paying a subscription to use the features of a product they have already purchased. good luck with your choice selection. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out!

    I like the look of wooden chess pieces but I love the plastic ones too, the ones I’ve grown up playing was plastic pieces, recently got my first magnetic chess set that comes with plastic pieces too

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 16 dny

      I just got a magnetic eboard as well (you can check it out on the main page, unboxing and review videos, just posted it a few minutes ago)
      I also grew up on the plastic pieces. These days though the top boards play with the DGT wood ones, and.. I really want to get to those top boards thats why it was the Chessnut Pro for me :)
      I got to the top board and went against an IM... I've never made it back to the top board :D

    So how does promotion work in the SquareOff Pro? Does it assume I want a queen every time or can I choose between a knight or a queen?

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 4 měsíci +1

      on the square off you have to take our your phone and select the promotion piece after placing the pawn on the square
      on chessnut pro it automatically detects the piece placed

  • @hetenbliksem
    @hetenbliksem Před 5 měsíci +1

    With the DGT e-boards you don't have to turn the board for a rematch, you just can set up the pieces on the other side of the board to start a new game. Can you check if this is also possible with the Chessnut Pro board please?

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 5 měsíci

      ill have a look tomorrow and get back to you :)

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 5 měsíci +1

      So Vsing the AI you do not need to rotate the board.
      Played a game with the pieces set up and the board adjusted to the way I had it, then did a second game with the pieces on the other side and it recognised it

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Also just tested on chesscom by putting the pieces on the wrong side, when the game started the board recognised and corrected the piece placement :)

      Thanks for the quick reply. So basically you don't need this device to spin the board?
      Can you please also check if this works when playing games over the board with someone face to face, to record the games.
      When I first got my DGT Smartboard I used to turn the big board each time when playing a rematch. I was happy to find out that this is not necessary with the DGT-eboards.

      @@hetenbliksem still need the device if you are playing a random colour, as it will lock in the pieces I believe. Will test tonight

    I like the square off. Its easy to carry and most of the rime i play with others in person. And if no one is around, ill play the ai. But was thinking about the chessbut pro for home use. The square off kingdom is too small for me.

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před měsícem

      the chessnut pro is perfect for home use, as you stated the squareoff has its advantage for movement, but i highly recommend the chessnut pro :) good tournament size

    I enjoyed your video review ✅. With that being said, most people can't justify almost $1000 dollars for a chess set. That price is ridiculous 😂. I'm sure it's a nice product though 👍

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před 5 měsíci

      Very true. Its definetely on the high end.
      They also have chessnut Air which is... maybe over half the price less? Not entirely sure.
      I have had my eye on a nice chess set that I could be proud of, thats a great display piece (none of those folding sets, or sets where you store pieces underneath) and I had been toying with the idea of forking out around that much for well over a year :)
      Also thank you, glad you enjoyed the review :)

    I like the Chessnut pro board but it is sooo pricey.

    • @whiggi
      @whiggi  Před měsícem

      Yes it is on the premium side of things.. still i would highly recommend the investment vs something of lower quality which is just collecting dust (my square off pro for example).
      i plan on keeping the chessnut on display for many many years and have had alot of use out of it... but i agree its definitely on the higher side when it comes to eboards.
      i do have the affiliate code which I think gets you somewhere between 12 and 15% off all chessnut products, code WHIGGI. ive been eyeing off the air for awhile that might be a better entry point for you

      thank you for the nice feedback :) shame you dont like these ones, i quite like the look and feel of the chessnut one. Any particular sets you do like?

    • @americanojoel
      @americanojoel Před 5 měsíci

      In my opinion, the Chestnut Pro IS technically and aesthetically superior to any other brand of e-board available. The DGT and the Millennium boards may be prettier, but they require several add-ons (blue tooth and engines) to do what Chessnut (and even Square off) can do with each of the boards built-in technology. DGT and Millennium became complacent with their niche, and while their boards are prettier, their technology is inferior.

    I don't understand. I downloaded Stockfish for FREE and play it all the time on my laptop. WHY would I want to mess with either of these products? If I wanted to be "3-D" I could just buy a cheap chess set and copy what's shown on the computer screen.
