Would this repair be similar to the 09 duramax LMM ?

Do you have any theory as to why that unison ring was stuck, was it rust by any chance as per the truck having been run briefly building moisture ( cold engine ) and then shut off and sat for some period of time for rust to set in ?. If lets say a unit like this was used often for longer runs, would something like this ever occur ?.

Rust built up on the unison ring bearing surface. Cold starts produce H20 among other things. The Dmax vgt center section has a different design that makes them less likely to stick compared to a 6.0/6.4 Ferd, but they do get stuck on occasion. A real hoot pulling the Turbo on an LLY forward, actually a 15-17 LML is easier.

@@northwestlighttruckservice278 I would imagine the turbo rust issue to some degree also follows the humidity of the area or put another way if one lives in southern Arizona where its near zero humidity most of the time its probably not as big of a problem. On the other hand from what I gather you get rainy drizzly weather quite a bit during the winter. My brother has a Ferd 6.0 that I may have mentioned before, as of yet he has not had any issue with the turbo and it sits for at least 7 months out of the year without running as it only hauls his slide in camper. I bet its just lovely working on any of these and I assume the L5P is a real thrill as well. I like lifting the hood of the old early 1970s and prior, where the engine sits there with no other shit in the engine compartment !
