"The trickster of the group" *looks at her character in the manga*
Yeah, checks out
She’s an actual thief and I love her for it.
@camotheboss181 not just a thief, but a con(wo)man, & sent Yellow on her adventure
They're basically Luffy Zoro and Nami
@@risky2166 green was fierce but not a dumbass like zoro
i will never forget the pokeball boobs absolutely on the best scene of the manga
I was really happy that Leaf made an appearance in Pokémon Masters, where they even gave her a personality.
didn't then basically take the personality from the manga ? Which is great but still, nothing new
@@naproupiNot really. None of the protags have their personalities taken from the manga. Maybe some of them might have minuscule aspects here and there (like how May’s EX design has Sapphire’s fang), but they’re definitely not straight-up the manga counterparts.
In Masters, Leaf is just… Red and Blue’s friend. That’s it.
@@naproupi She's the "mom friend" in PoMas. Very much the nurturing and mature part of the trio, contrasts heavily with the quirky and mischievous personality of Green.
@@naproupi Thankfully the game makes sure to maintain that Leaf is her own character. Not a single aspect from the manga makes it into her. It’s good as green and leaf are two separate characters
Yeah, same thing with Kris for me since she got fully replaced by Lyra
I remember when Sun and Moon came out and it was revealed that you could battle a grown Red and Blue, a comic was made where a grown Green appears to chastise the boys for going on vacation and leaving her behind 😂
do you remember who made it
@reflecks9255 I vaguely remember it being kashmimo? Couldn't find the exact comic tho so I might be tripping.
BRO I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS WHEN WATCHING THE VIDEO
Love the fan art of them arriving to Alola with their Pokemon exhausted by the trip.
Would you bring a friend on your honeymoon?
Those aren't leg warmers but baggy socks worn too low. A part of Japanese subculture and kogal esthetic where under strict school uniform rules you show a little bit of rebellion by wearing your socks that way. Loose and free, like the rebellious teen spirit.
Oh I just commented this. I wasn’t too sure if that was the intention but to see someone else pointing out this trope reassures me I’m not crazy.
My understanding is that sometimes it wasn’t on purpose, but that the uniform socks didn’t always fit right and would never stay up.
It was also just a trend around the time these games came out. So it would either be a signifier of a slightly rebellious or care-free/fun character or to show a character was young and trendy.
Though given the simplicity of the rest of her outfit they're probably going for the former.
as a kogal design lover, surprised i never connected that
It was their honeymoon, duh.
Counterpoint: wearing your socks that way is going to warm your legs.
The Let's Go games kinda leaned into that mischievousness, with almost a sense of 4th wall breakage, when you encounter her in Cerulean cave and she keeps trying to catch you, thinking your a Pokémon.
Well that's just them using Green's design and personality from the adventures manga
@@KingsBard I mean that's a good thing. The Pokemon manga's great!
she's the funniest character in that manga BY FARRRR @@KingsBard
There is a very popular fan theory that Green in Let's Go is an attempt at cloning the researcher's daughter alongside Mewtwo, like in the previously cut short from the first Pokemon Movie, which is why her sense of reality seems warped. It is just a fan theory, but I think it's a really fun one.
Tbh based on her let’s go appearance, I have to assume it’s how she Wants to be thought of. She seems less clever and mischievous than clumsy and impulsive. At the very least, she’s somewhere between the two
In the manga Green is originally a thief with very little care for others. While Red and Blue both got their pokemon from Oak Green stole the last one (which was Squirtle).
And she has big trauma
She's also Silver's adoptive sister; they have _very_ different personalities but also the closest ties between the Gen I and II protagonists.
Like Silver 😂
Gotta thank our Ice boi Pryce for being the nightmare Masked trauma inducer for her and Silver
Her name is Blue. Green is the male rival
The manga really said "what about women's wrongs" and they're so real for that
Based Manga
Gotta love Japan
your analysis is suprisingly in tune with how she is potrayed in the Pokemon manga, in which, she is a trickster type character who often uses dirty tricks in battle to outsmart the opponent.
Considering her backstory
But it’s not in tune with Leaf. Green maybe, but in the same way Lyra and Kris are different characters, so are Leaf and Green.
I need to read those manga again.
@@ConductorElcrestGreen is the wrong name for her. She's Blue
@@zillva Yes but most EN fans know Blue as Green, therefore it’s easier to call her Green
In the manga, Green is literally a conwoman. She couldn't get any more trickster than that.
We do not talk about the 2 pokeballs incident
Fun fact: In Japanese, Green and Blue's names are swapped since the original Japanese Pokemon games were Red and Green with Blue only coming out as a third version later on
It always annoys me to no end when people call her "Green" lol
That's always been a pet peeve of mine
thank you, looking for this
@@batmabelyes… it annoys me people call her green, when her eyes are blue in the manga and she wears more blue typically than Green (rival) does
I prefer her to be Leaf or Green TBH. Blue works better as the rival’s name
Dying for Skyen to see Green in the Manga so he can know how right he is. Literally her first interaction with Red is conning him and stealing his gym badges.
But he’s not right. Green and Leaf are two separate characters
@@ConductorElcrest In the manga, they're the same but i also think that even outside the manga, they are still the same because of the hair design
@@letheanh8961 In the manga they are the same. This is extremely well known, but outside of the manga they are NOT. Leaf’s personality is far different from green’s. The same applies to Lyra and Kris. Same in manga, different everywhere else
@@letheanh8961 This is also further pushed by the fact that in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, the Green that appears there is called Green and not Leaf. Leaf herself is treated completely separately from Green in everything but the manga, and same with Lyra. In the manga kris and lyra are the same, but everywhere else they’re treated differently
Fact fun in the manga green is a trickster type character
So, solid character design, the trickster gives trickster vibes.
mannn the pokemon adventures manga is so goated fr
blue*
I thought she was blue in the manga?
@@Znwarp in Japan she is blue but in the English manga she is green
Kinda funny how you mention she looks mischievous and clever, cuz that's her exact personality in the manga. She's a trickster thief who steals goods from others and is very smart and strategic.
do you know her backstory
I've always liked Green/Leaf's design. It's a shame Game Freak hasn't used her more
Right? I’d love to see Leaf in other games than just Fire red and Leaf green
U can play the ROM hacks for red blue and green chapter follows the manga story and each one is their own stories
Her design is a mirror to Red’s. He has blue bottoms and red top. Even their hats are inverse.
Leaf looks mischievous,
Everyone who's read Pokemon special/adventure: buddy you have no clue
I understand that Leaf didn't appear in Sun and Moon as a grown up because it was about the anniversary of Pokémon Red and Green being released in Japan, not the release of the remakes later on where she did appear as a playable character
But man, I really wanted her to be there as a part of the group, but her being included in the Let's go games gives me a bit of hope of her appearing in more mainline games in similar ways to Blue and Red.
Kanto is one of the few regions where both the male and female protags rule. Also she tries to catch you in Let’s Go and seemingly legit thinks you’re a Pokemon, which is hilarious
In the adventure Manga she uses Blastoise to fly and that's great
Green /Blue /Leaf is a Paradox but a Good paradox. WE LOVE FEMC
Fun fact: The names “Blue” and “Green” are switched in Japanese, as the original games were Red and Green, with Blue version being the updated third game of Gen I (when they were translated into English, Blue version was already out in Japan, so we got the enhanced graphics and slightly less buggy versions)
I love leaf. such an underrated character
Fun fact: in the pokespe manga Blue’s FRLG clothing was a gift from her surrogate brother Silver as a means to complete her reinvention of herself.
I do love how Smash Ultimate added her as an alt for the Pokémon Trainer and her voice lines do line up with the mischievous side (which lines up with Let's Go)
So in the manga (in the original japanese) she's named Blue. Its only in the English release she's Green. Its a whole headache.
oh yeah i remember that, it was pretty annoying and confusing
SOYRENT BURUUU
I think she’s the only Gen 1 protagonist who hasn’t been portrayed with the charmander line in any major capacity (outside of smash bros, but she’s treated as an alternate skin for red). She’s used Bulbasaur and Squirtle numerous times, but charmander always goes to one of the two boys.
Tbh I think the Squirtle line is the only one that fits for her, the other starters feel weird, but that's probably just because I've read all of Pokespe
I can see where you’re coming from, but I think squirtle fits Blue (the rival) better. Both from an aesthetic standpoint and kind of a story perspective. Blue having squirtle gives him a huge advantage over red in regards to the gyms, making the fact that he’s one step ahead of him make more sense.
@@firewarrior8298 What stand point? Dude literally wear Green and intended to be named Green by the original creator.
OG blue’s shirt looks more like a bluish purple, same for his pants in FRLG. He didn’t wear green till origins and S/M . Wartortle and Blastoise look like they’re constantly smirking, which fits the rival to a T.
@@firewarrior8298 The names for him weren't settled or even official until gen 2. Also the colour is violet/purple.
I especially like Green's implementation in the Adventures Manga, where she was basically working as an industry spy, trying to infiltrate Team Rocket to find information to sell.
I loved her portrayal as a clever and confident character, yet also having a tragic backstory and how, despite her selfish goals, she joins Red and Blue in the end to stop Team Rocket.
Her hair isn't frizzy. It's a choppy layered cut.
Fun Fact: For anyone that didn't know, in the Japanese games, she's named Blue. The character we know as Blue is actually named Green because Pokémon Red and Green were the original games with Blue being the updated version that our Red and Blue were based on. Because our default name choices were Red and Blue, it lead to the idea that your rival's name is Blue (or Red if you played Blue version). That's also why the first remakes were FireRed and LeafGreen, where "Leaf" is introduced. And, in the Pokémon Adventures manga, Blue has a Squirtle and Red and Green trade their starters to match their names too. GameFreak initially intended for the player to be able to choose their gender in Gen 1 but, if I remember correctly, the space in the cartridge wouldn't allow for it.
As a whole, I really like Leaf's design and I love that the manga incorporates a lot of material from the games like outfits. The fact that a remake updates a character's appearance and that gets added into the manga is really fun.
She's my favourite character in the Adventures manga.
I love how she just seems like a gag character at first, this silly conwoman, only for you to learn much later on that she's a very traumatized person.
She probably scams people just so she can survive
Everyone always forgets the Manga where she is a major player in the series. And she is also the trickster of the group.
I think the mischievous side of her design is definitely a case of the manga influencing how the developers chose to adapt her character. The manga was the first work to use her as an individual character, as far as I know.
A lot of fan artists have designed her like if she had appeared in Sun and Moon alongside Red and Blue
Hypothesis: Green is managing the Viridian Gym while Red and Blue have their Alolan honeymoon.
This, someone’s gotta keep the gym running
"Honeymoon". Bruh. They just chillin' 💀
@@KingStr0ng no tf they’re not
@@dragonmoonwave Fellas, is it gay to go on vacation? 😩
@@KingStr0ng bruh they are so dating it’s not even funny
Leaf champion design in Pokémon Masters kinda makes her older than she really is
If you read the Manga, she is definitely the, "Mischievous" One she's introduced by conning Red, and stealing his Gym badges lol
Meets someone, Steals their gym badges, Refuses to elaborate, Leaves.
The way you edited it made it seem like green wasn’t adapted in the manga until the fire red and leaf green era
Congrats, ya perfectly summed Green/Blue's personality in Adventures. XD
She absolutely is the mischevious trickster of the trio.
I think Leaf is one of the best character avatars. She’s actually hella stylish, and I love her color palette
Yeah in the manga she's a skilled thief. She's similar to nami from one piece.
Also she uses Blastoise's water cannons to fire at the ground to fly them to she needs to go and that's really cool
The first art of Leaf/Green makes her looks more serious and mysterious than her older arts. I hope we do get to see more of her tho
she was always one of my favorites in the manga, her personality was a lot of fun and her backstory was really interesting! her relationship with silver was also v sweet. i'd love to see the game version of her again 💔
i hope that if she returns as an adult, they double down on her mischievous nature and make her a full-blown trickster
“She’s grown,” Roque said to Darrow holding up his prized leaf green cartridge.
“I didn’t get started until Ruby and Sapphire,” Darrow replied, unbeknownst to everyone, Darrow preferred Digimon.
Green is a great character in the manga and her appearance as Leaf in the Let's Go games was fun too.
Shes definitely gonna chuck the pokeball at someones head
If I understand correctly, in the manga Green was a criminal who was very adept at lying and charming her way into and out of situations, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that carried over to the Leaf design.
Also if I recall correctly, she had lost an arm in a robbery gone wrong and had a ditto that pretended to be her missing arm, which could transform on the fly and help her get out of tight spots.
Leaf is my favorite female character, her design is so simple yet so cute, and her sporty outfit looks like something a trainer would actually wear.
I'm happy they cemented in her being called Green (Blue) in Lets Go, then backed it up with the animated short based on Lets Go. The Kanto trio needs to be featured in more games more.
From what I remember in the pokemon special manga they played up the mischievous vibe and made her a thief type
I really like Green’s Let’s Go design. I love how it combines that prototype design with a hint of Leaf’s outfit (the blue shorts under her black top, and the same neckline with inverted colors)
i love leaf so much, i wish she was in more things like red or blue in general
You'd like The Festival of Champions
She threw 4 pokeballs at my face then disappeared right after trickster checks out
God her design was peak
It would be awesome if they put her as the final challenge of a pokemon game for no reason at all.
Those leg warmers are called "socks."
The More You Know "
She makes an appearance in one of my favourite rom hacks dark violet. They gave her a large role in the story and shes one of your rivals taking the starter that you or blue don't take
Man that last sentence creeped me out
At least Sakurai and Co. didn’t forget about her
She’s a big part of the manga. And yeah, your “trickster” assessment is right on the money.
Blue became red's official translator and Leaf is their chaotic energy
I like that she has unorderly hair like her counterparts.
My favorite scam artist 😂
I always took her outfits to be kinda sporty, like a tennis player with an attitude. Similar to Red having a baseball shirt and cap. Like a couple of kids trying to get into trouble after school.
Why does that first image look adorable while simultaneously making me feel like I'm about to get brutally mugged the second mom and dad leave the room? 👀
Fun fact: The Let’s Go games hint at Green’s Japanese name (Blue) since you can repeatedly battle her in the blue city. Oh, and guess where you find Blue (JP Green)? Yep, the green city.
Leaf pulling up in a later game to unironically fold everyone in the hardest Pokemon post game battle to date would be hilarious.
mischievous is an appropriate description, she throws pokeballs at you in lets go lol
I like her hatless look.
Gen 1 manga green looks different from the official leaf design, they gave her a new outfit in the fire red leaf green arc as a reference to the official design.
Not being in Gen 1 puts Green/Leaf in a very unique place. She's prominent in Adventures and Masters but absent from Origins and the S/M post-game, even though she'd existed for years at that point. I'm not sure if it's because she's less widely known or because their dynamic as a trio is quite different from when it's just Red and Blue.
"How would she have developed?"
this is the internet, your answer will arrive in seconds
I like this idea of her being mischievous or working in the shadows which is why she appears only rarely in media. It’s definitely not that she’s cut content.
The manga introduces her scamming Red and taking team rocket’s ankles with a fake video so trickster is definitely the word
she needs her own game
She's a menace and I loved playing as her!
If Skyen really deduced that she was a prankster without reading the manga, then he is a professional because in the manga she's a litteral theif and she is kinda like Nami from One Piece, using her charms to get what she wants
So underrated and one of my faves. Shes perfect
Kid leaf (the first drawing) looks so locked tf in compared to her older self lmao. I would've loved to see that energy retained
i always love the manga designs
I remember someone pointing out her colour scheme is the opposite as Red's in the games, kinda leaning into that "feminine counterpart" of the main character, and I think that's a nice touch as well! It gives cohesion
I loved her personality in the Lets Go series.
she gives that beckoning "baaaaaakaaaaa" kinda laugh, where she pulls out a 6th ball and says "you thought that was my last mon?" and its like fuckin giratina in a time where he doesnt even exist
While we didn’t get Leaf back in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, we did actually get Green’s video game debut a whopping two whole decades later, so that’s nice at least.
Anyone else creeped out that the narrator said he was interested in how she would’ve grown up and developed? CREEEPY PRED ALRRT!
I cannot unsee super effective comics version of leaf being a gremlin that sees geneva's convention as a suggestion.
I always really liked her design, it's so simple and understated compared with the rest of the protags, which makes it stand out imo
So glad you called her Green. Im so tired of people swothcing Blue and Green's names To This DAY
green is cool. i named my crystal character green instead of crystal, you know, their true name. also… fire red and leaf green going with the comic’s design of green, it was this brief window where so much detail and love got poured into the games.
Green (younger image): Those boys won't let me play with them. One day I'll make them regret it.
Green (older image): Your day of reckoning has arrived.
Why does both the guy talking and the script feel like you've asked an ai to describe leaf to me haha
she is adorable in the first art
I love how artists can depict a character's personality through their posture and design so well like yeah her Adventures counterpart is mischievous and that personality bled into her main artwork for the games (idrk if Leaf is actually depicted as mischievous anywhere like Green is but I'm assuming the creators were aiming for them to be similar?)
Leaf is an Adventure/Reverse Harem protag within the Pokémon universe
Leaf's design is one of my favorites. She just looks really cool
She seems like she would throw a pokeball at her opponent mid fight to confuse them
I used to love her! So great to see people talking about her :D (though my fav was always yellow personally)
I have nostalgia for Leaf since FRLG was my first game even tho I played the male protag more 😂
Someone made some really good fanart of Leaf with Red and Blue in Alola when they were announced in those games. The design they choose was very much a casual vacation fit, with a blocky stylized 04 on her top, like Red's 96.
One thing I also found fun in her design is that the pallet (hehe) is just the inverse of Red. Red's hat is mostly red and a bit of white, while Leaf's is mostly white with a bit of red. The color of Red's pants and jacket has been swapped for Leaf's shirt and skirt.
