The reasoning here is exactly the same thing that happened with Taliyah two years ago. It's not that they are overtuned, precisely, it's that they are tuned for jungle, which means they need to have the stats to clear jungle camps. So they are horrifically strong supports in early game and if they get fed, look out. Taliyah was able to solo win botlane as support when this was true for her before mini rework (which happened BECAUSE of this strength). The same thing is going on here with Ekko, except his CC is much harder to land than regular CC supports and he has to melee engage. This would probably fail most of the time if it's not a high skill streamer playing against golds just because most people in their own skill bracket won't be able to survive engaging with Ekko. But when it works, it's gonna work hard.
As someone who only gets ekko skin shards (true damage and his arcane skin) I really want to play him, so to know that he can perform as a support (my main role) makes me happy! Can't wait to try him.
Think about Ekko support with Nilah. More exp, which is great for an actual mid-laner playing support, then she gives him bigger shields off of W and bigger heals off of R, and of course she gets part of both. Plus, they are both really good at just going all in, and can even make him dodge autos and take less magic damage.

I play Ekko sup...my team hates until they see the early potential and dive potential. mid roamings are amazing and dragon fights can be so clean that I don't understand how noone plays it...with Cait we can take all the plates with no risks. if the adc plays for my W we can 2v3 with no problem, but some just don't believe the plays and don't follow up

this isnt support ecko, its just regular ecko in support role. its not interesting if youre just gonna build the same shit as you would anywhere. but tank mage ecko support is an interesting idea and something id like to see done by a skilled player.
