    It's more than simply moving up. Yes rake sucks, but unless you're bankrolled for variance at a 2-5 game, you're gonna have a bad time. BR management is important if you're playing cards for a living. If the place you play has a 5-10 game or bigger, the 2-5 is likely just as soft as 1-3 but you need to be staked properly for it. If 2-5 is the biggest game or the 5-10 game rarely runs, you're likely going to run into more pros that play in the bigger games.

    Good series, excellent stuff . I do agree 120 hour sample size is very small for a valid hourly rate. I would say at least 1,000 hours (which isn’t that much) maybe 8-9 months of playing.

    Thanks for showing the details on rake and promotions. At the lowest stakes, these have a huge impact on your effective hourly rate,, A $5 cap the rake makes the $1-3 level playable. Is there a separate drop to support the promotion? I'm used to a $1 or $2 dlop. I'm happy if I break-even on promtions compared to the drop I pay. With all the promo money I would be surprised it the drop at Jamul is less than $2 per hand.

    I agree with your bed sizing strategy at 1-3. I do the same $15 minimum when I raise. I adjust for how many limpers there are. I also adjust for their tendencies on how much I raise. I think that one other point is that if you are playing at a casino that allows you to buy in for 200 big blinds then always buy in for 200 big blinds so that she can raise to your absolute most efficient sizing in all cases. Many casinos now have 1-2 and 1-3 games That are even more profitable consistently than the 2-5 games. At least on the East Coast that is.

      I’d say like 20 buy ins is enough. So, if the max buy in at your 1/3 game is let’s say $400, then 8k is enough to start. I’m sure a few people would disagree with me, but it you lose 20 max buy ins at 1/3, then your problem isn’t bad luck or not having enough money to play.

    • @California_Poker
      @California_Poker Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@andrewlogan3664I’m going to disagree. I would say 40x 50x buyins if you re going to play for an actual living as an adult. If you’re single with no kids and live at home or minimal rent/expenses then yes 30x-40x but if you have a spouse or kids, you need at least 50x ($20,000 in your example) to play freely for a living. Single vs Married, 1 income vs 2 income, kids or no kids. All that comes into play. You should be paying taxes as well each year if you re doing it correctly so you can be bankable in life too.

      Jackpots of approximately $1200 get a 1099. If you get a bunch this raises flags for auditing. You don't want to end up negotiating with the IRS. Note that this player is tracking his earnings electronically which would be pretty incriminating if you were audited...not to mention use of bank accounts. Maybe it's worth the risks but you can caught.

    I think your style play that I've seen is slightly better suited for tournaments, where you should play fairly tight. Either way, if you keep making decent content, I'll keep watching.

      Thanks for watching!!!! I may start getting in to tournaments but for what I know I don’t know if being right is the way in tournaments. I think if something it’s a better move to be tight in cash than tournaments because there’s no rush. You can sit down and wait from strong hands and not blind out like it would happen in a tournament
