I recently heard this from a glass cleaning professional, who said forget Windex use Dawn liquid soap and water. Im going to try your technique. Thank you
👍😎
Windex and other ammonia-based glass cleaners are bad for the rubber seals around the windshield and other windows. They also cause streaking and clouding on the outside window surface and takes forever to remove.
Rainex also causes streaking that’s noticeable in the winter months when you’re defrosting your windshield. The manufacturer recommends using Dawn to remove it if you have that problem.
For glass, for example glasses, your fingers and soap work best, rinse with water then dry with oneofthem microfiber you get from the glasses store......not going to work well on inside of windshield, but outside soaping whole hand works better than cloth
If you apply rainx to a cleaned outside of windshield and you get streaks, simply spray misty water and buff
Same thing with fogx on the inside
Dawn works great for bathtub floors also if you have to clean them.
@@rugershooter5268 That might work in warm weather but in the winter when you’re using the defroster a lot, that water mist turns to ice then you have another problem on your windshield.
This was a perfect video! No explanations of where you've been, what you've been up to, what you're going to be doing, no promotions, no music, not excessive talking ❤ Absolutely perfect! ❤
Thanks! Much appreciated! 😎
no it was not. too long and too obvious ( you need water. yeah... duh!)
@@taurusnltaurusnl4686 Hey... no videos are posted on your channel. Do you have another channel that I can watch and learn from?
YES!! 😄
AMEN!
Finish with HORIZONTAL strokes on the inside, and VERTICAL strokes on the outside. That way you can easily tell where the leftover streaks are.
Thanks! Nice tip! 😎
No s--t.
mind blown!
Uuuuu that’s deep science
"Hints from Heloise" always used to say that about washing your house windows and shower doors, but it bears repeating for all the younger car drivers that have come along in recent years.
Straight to the point no BS not promoting brands I just love it 👌👍
👍😎
Really? Not that I care, but what is a dash of Dawn?
He's advocating the use of microfiber cloths--which are one of the biggest sources of plastic pollution in the environment. Bad bad bad bad bad.
@@markabrice Interesting... I never heard that before.
@@robertthomas6127 If a CZcamsr makes a video that mentions any other dish liquid brand besides Dawn, a bunch of toughs will come around and break their kneecaps
Thank you for a video that was informational and right to the point! No wasting time with idiotic intros and stupid music, just straight talk and demonstrations!
👍😎
Isn't it wonderful? No influence peddling just raw information. Absolute gold on this fkd up site.
I noticed that too.
Yup! I cannot stand the videos that have intros that take longer than the rest of the content.
Thank you for this sub-2-minute video. Thank you for no music. Easy to understand. You're the best, Dad!
Thanks for giving me the simple quick answer! I hate it when someone turns a video like this into a twenty minute waste of time.
Way too much work. Here in Minnesoder we just wait until it gets replaced when a deer comes through our windshield to get clear vision again.
😂😂😂
😂
🤣 fk that.
Thank you for getting to the point immediately.
Some people would hide this info in a 20 minute video.
You are an inspiration to all of humanity.
Thank you, sir!!
Thanks! The extra long videos are so more ads can be inserted. That’s not my thing. 😎
YES--- I took care of 4 huge apartment complexes in California for years-- including cleaning all glass surfaces-- and you're RIGHT-- DAWN in the water is THE BEST way to clean anything off glass-- leaves NO film and stays clean longer!!!!
👍😎
Dawn will clean the streaks on you're underwear
Dawn cleans everything. It’s mentioned in all the crafts videos I watch and is great when cleaning up after an epoxy job.
@@sk8queen yup Dawn works well for your messy needs
As a former landlord, I trust the advice of former landlords. It never DAWNed on me, I clean my glasses with DAWN.
Very good point. Matches that common phrase very well: "Work smarter, not harder."
Your video randomly came up in my feed but was literally a prayer answered thank you.
You’re welcome! Glad you found the video helpful. 😎
Perhaps one of the most wholesome things I have seen on CZcams.
Thanks! 😎
Watch Rachel Victoria, a hamster expert on how to create the perfect habitat for your small pets. Even more wholesome than the car.
As a professional window cleaner, I use Dawn exclusively. I do most of what he shows here, but I use a squeegee instead of wiping the whole window. I only wipe what the squeegee can't reach. But I do wipe it similarly to this guy. A good squeegee with ettore rubber is what makes no streaks. If you don't get it clean with soap and water before hand, though, that's what will make them show up later.
Great tip. One thing I add to the water is a splash of white vinegar, it cuts through any grease and helps to eliminate streaks. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome and thanks for the tip! 😎
Vinegar is an acid and doesn't cut grease (fatty acid). You need an alkali cleaner such as the dish soap recommended.
@@bigafoot7617 it must be that vinegar helps cut down on streaking. I always use dish soap and vinegar. Thanks for the info.
Don't be a douche... use vinegar and water.
But why would there be grease on the windshield? It’s not in the kitchen…
Nice to see a video that gets straight to the point instead of like some people who think they’re Cecil B. DeMille
Thanks! 😎
Very nice tip. I put off cleaning the inside of my windshield due to how awkward it is to reach everywhere, this looks more comfortable. Thank you.
I’m too short to reach unless I stand on the seats! You can bet I put it off for a loooooong time! 🥴
I'm short-armed as well. I got a shower scrubber on a short extension pole. It has a swivel head with a sponge on it. I slip a clean cotton sock over the head to wash and can get the whole windshield from one side.
Put a clean sock on to dry the windshield once you've finished washing.
Same. Short, small hands and big slanting windshield..
This was a very concise, yet thorough tutorial. Great job, sir!
Great. I tried this and now all I have are millions of little cobras on my windshield. Thanks a lot.
Fantastic video with precise yet simple instructions. Great job! 🎉
The perfect video, helpful info with no unneeded BS. Thank you sir.
This was very helpful but, what impressed me the most was the shot of his garage! IMPRESSIVE!
You’ve got to be kidding! LOL
It really is! My entire day has been chaos and seeing everything in order on the wall instantly made my day better. Also, this tip is awesome and popped up just when I needed it! Thank you!
Great tip and even better video, concise and to the point!
man i done cobra cleaned all 4 windshield today u got me a meatloaf thanks man
This is great advice regarding the Dawn/Water mix. The method is very close to mine. Depending on the outside temps (warmer/more often) it should be done about once a month, more often in warmer months and fewer in cooler months. The off-gassing of materials used to manufacture the interior and smokers requires more frequent cleaning of interior windows.
Thank you so much! I recently thought I had done such a good job cleaning the inside of the windshield, but when the sun hit it, it looked terrible! This IS A HARD JOB! Your method is much better and I'll give it a try asap! Thanks again.
Wow, everything in the video is SO clean! Amazing, and thanks!
Outstanding. Nice and concise and NO music!
WOW! Great tip and excellent description of the process.👌
Excellent instruction, thank you!
So helpful, and here all this time I've only been using Dawn to clean my greasy ducklings.

Cleanst most well organized garage, that still fits a car, I've ever seen!!!

I actually really appreciate how detailed you were and how clear your instructions were. Well done!
Thanks! 👍😎
Just be aware they sell at dollar store a triangular plastic thing that flexes and has a handle about a foot long and you put any cloth on it and it works perfect. It is also on a pivot joint.
Yes, we have one of those from Can Tire I think, and it works well.
it works but its also awkward to apply pressure to... but really great for the top and bottom corners
I did this last month. Works like a charm. Getting ready to do it again soon.
Excellent tutorial. I learned a better way from you. I am also impressed with the organization of your garage. Well done.
👍😎
Thank you for the tips. Will try this on my car this weekend.
I tried everything cleaning the inside of my windshield. They all left streaks, with the legendary Windex performing the worst. As a last resort, I tried water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid, then wiped dry with a fiber knit cloth. It worked perfectly.
Great video, right to the point and Dawn is the best. You can tell this guy is a detailed person just look at how meticulous his garage and yard is. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! 😎
What a brilliant idea thank you so much 😊
as others have said ... to the point ... great tip ... thanks a bunch.
That's SO helpful; I've washed the inside of my windshield about 12 or 13 times in the past 2 weeks & I still have streaks. I'm going to try this right now!

And the results were ?

I have found that the only way to get rid of streaks is with water and squeegee. Every thing else leaves a streak.
Very good idea! Thanks!

Thank you for this, nothing drives me more crazy that that oil/film on the inside of the windshield. My cat is a 2024 Honda CRV brand new and it has the film already. Really appreciate the tip!

As always, the simpler the better! !! !!!

Yup so grab a bottle of dawn and start stroking
Thank you for sharing !! Merry Christmas
Thank you for this informative video. 👍
I've always used this method. Never knew it was called the cobra method. I was always able to get my glass streak free while others had a hard time. The key is the drying / dry buffing after the wash. If the window still has grime, rinse and repeat. All about that dry buff.
Thanks! Cobra is just the name I dreamed up for the video. LOL
@@HacksbyDad It's a great name!
@@1234cheerful Thanks!
I thought it was the monkey
Well hell, I’ve been doing that way for ages and it works very well. ✌🏻
Good to hear! Great minds think alike! 😎
I have been doing it like this forever but never using soap. Will try the soap next time. Thanks for posting and Happy Holidays to all 🙂.
Excellent, thank you.
I agree with using the dawn for oil. But after that use just plain water. I worked at a pharmacy and noticed when the evening sun would glare thru our windows they never had any streaks like most glass cleaners leave. We had an older man that had been at the pharmacy his entire adult life and he chose to clean the windows. One day I just asked him what was in his spray bottle that kept them so spotless? He laughed and said water. I thought he was joking. I laughed and said no really. He said really just water. He learned it when he was in service. I’ve used only water now for years on mirrors and glass. Now if they have some type of buildup on them you might need the dawn trick first.
Thanks! Great story! 😎
I used to be a professional window washer. Soap is helpful for getting grime off, but then you also need to get all the soap off too. That's what a squeegee is for. Wiping soapy water off with a cloth, like in this video, won't cut it. Unless you like washing your windshield everyday.
Always a frustrating awkward job...Thank you for the tips. I look forward to trying your method
👍😎
Smart idea!! Thanks.
Great process
Nice method! I will give it a try. I’ve tried glass cleaners and they all clean about the same and still leave streaks.
Thanks! Hope it works for you too.
😎
Try Invisible Glass. I saw that on a CZcams video by a car detailer a few years ago and have been using it ever cents. He says that the ones that streak are glass cleaners that contain ammonia. Everybody thinks ammonia is good, but it’s not. We use Invisible Glass on our car and home windows. It works great! That being said, you can never go wrong with water and a little bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid, especially for extra dirty windows
Greetings from Tucson, Arizona.
Great technique.
Thanks! 😎
Good grief, I'm 70 and never thought of this. Thank you !
My method exactly. I learned about the Dawn/water formula watching professional window washers and came up with the microfiber towel hand wrap on my own because I'm just that smart. And humble.
👍😎
My late husband liked when I moved his "cobra" up and down, side to side...He also likes when I use the tips of my fingers to apply pressure and when the cloth is not dripping wet...😂😂👍👍
@ms.billie, topless i guess.
My dad taught me this method when I was 7 years old living in Botswana. He instructed me to use a newspaper to wick the moisture away from the glass as there were no microfibre cloths for sale at that time or terry cloths. It was squeaky clean and I still use it sometimes when I cannot find the microfibre cloths.
Yes, newspaper works good, has a lot of surface area/page, and it's ink minimizes streaking.
Ages ago I used to use newspapers to clean glass. That was the time they printed them with ink that had oil in it. Newspaper doesn't use that kind of ink anymore so it doesn't work like it used to.
Very cool to know that the ink used is part of the magic!@@jumperstartful
Excellent, thank you 👍
Thank you for this. Cleaning the front window has always driven me crazy 👍👍
Well done, Sir. This was the Idea, that i have need, because my Windshield is (shame on me) very dirty inside.
👍😎
To maintain a haze free inside windshield a standard blackboard eraser does wonders, and it’s fast. I keep one in each vehicle.
When do you use the eraser - every so often or just after washing the window?
Just any time it seems hazy. I found this out from someone else’s suggestion. If the defrost doesn’t get rid of the haze this seems to work well @@geegs120
@@Deribinkle cool! I'm going to try some of this stuff my daughter's SUV because I hate dirty windshields too
Genius- thanks for the information.
Great tip!
The best way to do this, get your 9 year old son to do it! Works every time! 🤘
...as a side note: do not wash your car paint with Dawn or other dishwashing liquids; they strip the paint and any wax coating. Use proper car wash liquid and a wash mitt or similar.

THANK YOU for this video !
Cobra style worth a try always had a hard time using palm up , mahalo for the tip😊
Thanks! Hope you like it!
👍😎
Earlier this year, I was persuaded by a CZcamsr to do as you did with a soapy wash, rinse with a second cloth using fresh water, then squeegee instead of using a drying cloth. I think either way would leave you satisfied but your way seems more economical.
Squeegee is definitely the way to go. But it's very difficult to do on th inside of a windshield. Rinsing with water before trying to dry would be a good alternative.
GREAT tip thanks
👍😎
Nice video. Thanks for the info
A clean windshield is always nice, but I know my wife would rather have our garage look as neat and organized as I see toward the end of the video.
Great video. Did it just like this on my own and was surprised how well the windshield cleaned up. My only variation was that after the pass with the wet microfiber towel I used another completely dry microfiber towel to ensure that I got rid of any streaks. This is much better and less expensive than buying products that do not really work. Thanks again.
Thanks! Great to hear! 😎
thats exactly what he did ! lol
That’s what he did. You must not have payed attention
@@Jimmy-LegsRight!!!😂😂😂
That’s exactly what he did! Duh.
going to have to give this a try.
Thank you!
I finish with dry crumpled newspaper to eliminate any streaking. It's an old method, but tried & true.
Hell yeah
Who gets the newspaper now?
@@ronaldbrown5745 it seems like everyday they put some kind of little flyer in my mailbox from all the local people.
6” rubber squeegee with plastic frame. Fast , easy, non scratching . Squeegees are the best on any glass. 99 % of the time it is just a haze you are cleaning off the inside of the glass so just soft water is fine.
Thanks! I’ll have to give that a try! 😎
There are also really cheap mop heads with angled handles specifically designed to clean the insides of car windshields.
@@darrennew8211 you mean those plastic ones with the hinged top and removable microfiber covers? Have those, squeegee still faster for drying and perfectly streak free.
@@tombanes Yep. But these are easier to get into the corners. I mean, it's a substitute for "cobra" style, not for drying it off when you're done.
