- Le Mans legend and F1 driver Derek Bell returns to the Silverstone circuit to be reunited with, and drive some fast laps in his four-wheel drive F1 car from 50 years ago - the M9A. It’s the same track that the car made its race debut back in 1969, and also the location of our Pure McLaren Track Weekend. Can he complete more flying laps of the circuit this time around than he did in the race?

I'm not ready to sit in an armchair and put my feet up - *Absolutely* Love That !
Thank you for letting us hear the sounds of that glorious Cosworth engine. Most of these types of videos insist on talking over or playing music over the engine song. So again, thank you.
It's always heartwarming to see old iconic race car drivers reunite with their cars for one last drive. Really nice to see.
Oh...that engine sound...beautiful!
This is the Sound of Cosworth DFV
That is a beautiful machine. I love how he said the chicanes ruin all the fun lol its so true.
health and safety has taken over
... that raw sound. can't get enough of it.
Love the Bruce Mclaren tribute, he is truly a motorsport legend.
The Who? :p

That engine sound, oh my God.
God! I love that engine. Music to my ears.
the sound of the engine is awesome
Mr. Derek is a living legend. What a fantastic video. That engine still sounds unreal even after 48 years.
" Horrible bloody chicane they've put in everywhere to spoil your fun "-
I'm an old racer and thank Derek for saying that.....absolutely hate the damn things. They have cut the balls of my home track , Road Atlanta
Derek Bell is the national treasure here. The car is a close second
Good old Derek Bell. Thanks for the video
Never stop drivin Derek!!!
I knew that 4wd was messed around with but I never realised someone actually did it. Way to go bruce!!
Lotus, BRM, Matra, Brabham all had one as well. Cosworth built their own which was a real horror and never raced. 4wd didn't really work in f1 and was abandoned by 1970.
god what a car
what a noise
what a driver
what a car
Golden and at the same time darkest era of F1: R.i.P. Lorenzo Bandini, Jim Clark, Jo Schlesser, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt, Jo Siffert, Bruce McLaren, Pedro Rodriguez, Roger Williamson, Francois Cevert, Peter Revson, Tom Pryce, Ronny Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Rolf Stommelen and all those fearless drivers who paid the ultimate price for doing what they loved most and was incredibly dangerous at a time when racing was really racing - no chicanes.
The sound of the F1!
What a sound!
Derek Bell, one of my favorite racing personalities. I'm 65 and not done yet either.
Those downshift grunts are f’ing magical
There's nothing more amazing that going back in time with something so classic, unhinged and in its pure raw form. Bravo!
That Cosworth sounds amazing goosebumps!
Wow, had no idea McLaren made a 4WD open wheel car. That's really neat.
lotus made one at around that time too , jochen rindt refused to drive it .
Beats 4 wheel steering..
In 1969, nearly everyone had one, except Ferrari. It didn't really work!
Better sound than 48 years laters F1 cars.
Like Gurney's Eagle, this is a beautiful car. Derek Bell, a class driver.
No clue who this man is, yet in those 6 minutes he came across as a very likeable character. Why do we get greasy hipsters in commercials instead of people like him! :)
God that engine note, and he’s so right about the chicanes!
what a great video. so great to go back in time and see Mr. Derek Bell driving it at Silverstone. great sounds wonderful job.
Incredible, thank you McLaren for making my sound system sound so amazing!
Lovely sound. Thank you.
This is a powerful video! History resurrected!
Amazing
loved it!! Derek Bell is a Racing Rock Star!
great attitude Derek . nice achievements too!
thanks
Awesome story, incredible sound!
The sound of that McLaren is Just MAJESTIC!
Beautiful moment!
That car sounds like a beast. I like how he didn't drive it blazing fast so you could really hear the car. That motor is insane.
Please Mclaren, paint your F1 cars with this color and livery, stand out from the crowd. Start making a brand image based on this beautiful color. Be like Ferrari, whatever sponsors they have, they all understand the red color IS ferrari.
So be Mclaren, be beautiful, be iconic.
Well, I don´t know if they are going to listen to me, either I´m an infant or elderly.
But you can continue to vent your frustration, I don´t mind reading useless people like you.
Your wish has basically been granted
MichaelKingsfordGay: get bent.
Your wish has come true...sort of
@ZebsFrend Actually the 720S is the best supercar on the market. And the MC12 was a redesigned Enzo.
Brilliant chap!😊🏎👏
Splendid car, marvelous driver! 🧡
Sound MAN!!!! So special!
Such a historic event to see the great Derek bell back in this machine. I'm not old enough to say i saw him race this car but as a part time racer and enthusiast i have watched alot of the old races on video and i saw Derek racing it. After 48 years this event should have bern better advertised. It looked like bot many people were there.
Absolutely awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The noise of those dfvs.....never gets old .
It sounds so good.
A good coronavirus time moment. The whole race in on CZcams. I watched it yesterday. Saw Mr. Bell's name and thought "Wow", he must have been young then. " Then I found this.

masterpiece 💫
Gran reunión Derek Bell historico piloto y el McLaren m9a bonito coche lastima su corta carrera
incredible machine-
DFV just sounds perfect!
Props to the drivers of the day who raced on the raged edge in what in reality were some incredibly dangerous machines
Enter motorcycle road racing
the engine sounds, oh my God!!!
Fantastic
The sound of a normally aspirated Cosworth just sends shivers up my spine!
What a sound.
..all the cars from that time period look/sound so much better that what they run now.
proper legend!
mmm That sound ! 😍
Simplesmente PERFEITO, parabéns pela qualidade do áudio.
"Horrible bloody chicanes they put in everywhere to spoil your fun"..... Nice line, that. ( 4:18 )
Chicanes are the Grand Prix circuit version of the helicopter parent. "Don't go too fast now!"...
That sound!!!!!!
I have a Road and Track magazine from 1968 which made this wild prediction, "Just wait, after these wings are sorted out, 4 wheel drive will come in to it's own"...
Superb car
É muito bom ver pilotos de épocas passadas dirigindo novamente os carros que correram, se para a gente que assiste já é emocionante, imagina para esse piloto aí, lembrando do passado no volante de uma super máquina dessas.
Adorei o vídeo, parabéns.
4 wheels drive Very Beautiful well preserve McLaren
Dezzer, what a legend
Awesome
Wow that sound....
I love mclaren it’s my favorite car
that gulf firesuit
Cosworth DFV - that's how a F1 engine should sound. Awesome.
Classic
I want to be Derek Bell when i grow up
Somebody realized at 1:38 the wheels are Avon and they put Firestone in yellow above....?
I don't know why Im crying ;-;
Emotion! I understand!
4:25 So that's what sex actually sounds like. Thank you Mr Bell.
Dayum
I'd love to see Michael Andretti reunited with his 1993 F1 car for a few laps. Ever since the McLaren/Andretti combo at indy this year, I've been hoping for it to happen.
Garagisti i dont think they would trust him to keep it on the track, alone or not
I think he would rather forget about 1993. It wasn't very good for his career at all.
😎
I'm glad he said it horrible chicanes.
"Horrible, bloody chicanes they put in everywhere to spoil your fun."
He's not wrong.
Lol that's how I feel about some of the tracks now 4:19
My era, simply wonderful car and driver. F1 today has nothing on these cars, but we have to move on.
The sound 😯😶😶😶😶
Wowww
oh my god it is really a 4wd!
Racing car history porn.
Deathbrewer in short vintage porn..
The Ages doesn't matter, the matter is that you can still able to drive, even if you are old
No pot holes !
Shovel on the back for Derek Bell, ;) That McLaren is beautiful... I grew up in the 1960s, and the cars from the late 60s are still the only real race cars to me.
I have to agree with you.
I would like to think Bruce would be proud of where his company is now even if they are a Britsh company now :-P
So was this the inspiration for the Papaya livery?
4WD
honestly, if mclaren put his for limited production, say 50-70 unit. that'll be cool
Is this a 4WD car??? Was there room for the cardan bar to pass???
I never knew that McLaren was 4WD!
is drive for derek bell ?
