Axelsen had a lot of variety in his attack, making it very difficult for Chen Long to defend; Chen Long has rarely played anyone with Axelsen's height so Axelsen's shots were also very unpredictable for him. In contrast, Chen Long's attacks are typically more predictable and he wins with shot quality and defense, but Axelsen was great at retrieval and outlasted Chen Long on most of the rallies. In the 1st set, Axelsen took advantage of CL's passive backhand shots and neutralized CL's attack. In the 2nd set, Chen Long had to depart from his usual playing style to be more aggressive and take more risks, and we see him taking more aggressive shots on the backhand side. Axelsen won by sticking to his game plan of varying attacks meanwhile Chen Long was forced to change his to score some points.
I found myself rooting for the Chinese guy. Amazing precision by the Dane tho 😮
