Chinese badminton player Lin Dan is certainly one of the greatest badminton players of all time. He took part in the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 for the first time, and four years later, in Beijing 2008, he claimed the gold medal. In London 2012 he repeated history and defended his gold medal. His 2008 form is still the best ive ever seen from anyone ever. It was as if his physique was crafted by the badminton gods. Lightning fast and deadly power. Unbeatable.

Both of Lin's and Lee's achievements are unreal. Lin Dan has won gold medals in Olymics, World Champions, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, World Cup and other major world class competetions TWICE (With some of them more than twice). And Lee Chong Wei has won Champions in EVERY SINGLE super series that BWF organized. They are both legends that people will never forget.
Lee was never able to win Olympics, world championships nor Asian games because he kept losing to Lin

Yeah. Both are champions. It's always bittersweet. LCW, without the extensive support of a powerful country like LinDan does, was able to accomplish so much. If there was no LinDan, perhaps LCW would be the GOAT without contest, but perhaps without LinDan, LCW would not have reached the level he did. With LinDan, they pushed each other forward, and we got to see the best the sport has to offer.
@@bamboospout That's true, without one of them, including Peter and Taufik, badminton will not ever see the high level match like we've seen at their prime. Their rivalry make them push their skills forward and with that they became the high level badminton masters..

LCW rely on speed and smash to win points, whereas the late Lin dan rely on his beautiful techniques to create opportunity for himself, often wear out his opponent physically. Just look at at 2008 olympic, 2009 all england, 2010 asean game, 2011 world championship (the closest one), 2013 WC, 2017 all england (when lcw was considered the one with perfect form that time.

2008-2011 when lin dan was at his peak even lee chong wei seems like an amatuer to lin dan. After 2012 when lin dan declines a bit then lee chongwei somehow manage to get some chance but still lacks a bit of will power and fierce.

The matches from 2004 will be very precious to share, He was still perfecting his game at that time and his mindset was not fully under control yet.
We all would love to see what the play style of the uncut diamond was like.. showing his earlier qualities, different footwork, attacking strategies.
Something that is missing on his post Olympic era is the hunger He had for the win.
We can't blame him after his achievements including team events which are setting records for this sport.
He was frightening on his attacking shots alone like nothing shown on court before.. but that wasn't enough for him as He kept pushing his stats in other areas of the game.
Just watch how we won his last Malaysia Open.
Tactically he is godly mixing straightforwardness, creativity and guts.
It's a shame that Time is getting the best of him reducing his options, forcing him into defense, cutting his space.
