After that, Stacey walks you through some important safety tips and tricks that you need to know if you are going to be welding in your shop… so lock and load and strap in ‘cuz it’s all coming at you today on GEARZ!

As a young Marine in ‘84 that was my ride in an Arty Battery in 29 Palms, dusty & bumpy! On my honeymoon in ‘98 in Cozumel Mexico, the Mexican Navy or Coast guard had Gammagoats!

I drove one of these in Germany 1974-1976 loaded with FAAR radar and pulling a trailer with a 5 kw generator. It would go anywhere. I remember going right around jeeps stuck in the mud rigged uo as such.

I was driving a GOAT in Korea 1983 when the driver’s side middle wheel came off at 40 mph ( cruising speed ). The wheel passed me and about 1/4 mile down the road it veered right across path my path in front of me, smashed through the window of a gas station and came out through the other side smashing out another exit window. The wheel slow rolled back onto the roadway and collapsed beside where I had come to a stop. No Marines and no Korean civilians where harmed in this event😂

Had these in the Marine Corps in the 70ʻs. Very loud but would go anywhere.

I was in B Company 307 Engineer Battalion 82nd Airborne Division for about 5 years (1979- 1984) and had a M561 Gama Goat assigned to my 2 man commo section. At times I hated the damn thing and other times I thought it was great. It was so loud that a pair of earmuffs were issued for the driver and co driver. It never gave me any major problems although changing a tire was no fun.

    1) Detroit Diesel Model 3-53 engine = 3cylinders, 53 cubic inchers per cylinder
    2) They were LOUD. Army regulations required hearing protection be worn. Just what need when you ae sneaking around thr front lines
    3) They were a maintenance hog
    4) Buddy of mine was in the right hand (commander's) seat when the convoy came to a halt. Then the Duece and half ahead throws it in reverse and steps on the gas. BANG!. He pulls forward and does it again, with the pedal to the floor this time. When I spoke to my friend, he was still shaking - I think in rage....

I came here from Dragonman’s museum tour, where it was claimed the GGs were universally reviled by Vietnam War servicemen - because they were so slow and unreliable.

I served in the us army (1983-1985) and we had gamma goats in my 4.2 heavy mortar platoon. We hated the gamma goats, they broke down all the time and they were god awful noisy. But they were good off road vehicles
