      Even weirder, the Broncos beat the Packers and lost to the Seahawks, the Patriots did the reverse. Both have beaten the Panthers and Both have lost to the Giants.

    Falcons were one of the biggest one year wonder teams of all time. From 7-9 to 14-2 NFC champs, then collapsed to 5-11 the next season.

      Jamal anderson got paid and then got hurt early in 99 season and vinny testaverde got hurt also right off the bat which was 2 key players in the 98 seasons final 4

    I love that John retired after destroying a team in the Super Bowl, finally got to feel what Montana felt playing against a young Elway in that Super Bowl. He should’ve stayed for another year though, that broncos team was something else.

      @@vulcanraven9701 Maybe as a Team Montana Destroyed Elway. But individually Elway Is the better QB by FAR. He took 3 Shitty teams to the Super Bowl, THREE! SHITTY TEAMS! Where he damn near was the entire team. Went to 5 Super Bowls. More then Montana 😏😏 Also never lost his job... Montana was awesome, but he wasn't Elway.

      @@Local_Laydee Do you have any facts to back that up? Elway had a terrible TD:INT ratio, low completion (54%), and he never threw more than 27 TD. Even in playoffs he only threw 27TD 22 INT.

    Not the best Super Bowl but it was the most fun Super Bowl i watched because my family and friends had a Super Bowl party and we watched WWF Halftime Heat with The Rock vs. Mankind in an empty arena match. 1999 was awesome!

    John Elway, in a later interview, said it was prior to this game that he made up his mind on retirement. Reason? It took his body two full weeks to recover for this game, and knowing that he'd only have a week to do so during regular season games, his body simply wouldn't be able to take the beating anymore.

      @@DrSanto91 Sounds exactly like John Fox and Adam Gase in the 2012 AFC divisional game between Denver and Baltimore. Denver could have tried to win it in regulation but took the knee with over a minute left, and then lost in overtime. Some things don't change lol.

      It was Eugene Robinson the safety for Atlanta who got arrested for soliciting a prostitute, In the super bowl the next day he got caught with his pants down against Rod smith for a 70-yard touchdown! It was truly Amazing. The year before Eugene Robinson was the safety for green bay and he was on the sideline saying let's punch them in the mouth, over and over again. It was Denver who punched green bay and Atlanta is the damn mouth!!

      Apples and oranges. 32 was special because it was the first, and because they were beating the defending champions. 33 was special because it was a more comfortable win....there was never any question who was the better team.

    I love that little story about how Elway scored that rush TD and he's on the ground next to Schlereth (probably misspelled that) and he just turns and asks him, "Hey, how's it going?". I don't know who #21 is, but he should have scored on that first pick. One-on-one in the open field and you let the qb stop you.

    As a Seahawks fan,I really hated Denver ever since the Boz days. Man,Brian despised Elway. With all BS aside. It was cool watching Elway winning back to back Super Bowls. Yeah,I remember when NYG spanked Denver in Super Bowl XXI. I think there was a lockout in '87 vs Washington and lost AGAIN vs SF. Geez,Denver couldn't get over the hump. AFCW was strong back in the mid to late 90s as Seattle and KC were battling for either 4th or 5th place until '97-'99. Big ups to Elway winning back to back Super Bowls. Well deserved!!!!

      As a SF fan, they put up the most lopsided victory in history vs Denver. I gotta say though, as a kid even old man Elway was still one of the most athletic and I've ever seen, coming from a Steve Young fan.

      ​Broncos fan here, and although SB 48 sucked, SB 24 is the most lob-sided SB of all time, and is first Super Bowl that I remember, AND I was sick at the time lol. I was happy for our former division rivals on winning a ring, it was clearly WELL deserved. That Broncos team was epic, (and was a bit banged up, no Von) but you could've given them 10 tries (WITH Von) and they wouldn't have beaten those Seahawks. The whippersnapper Broncos fans were CRUSHED, though- so I'm very glad they got to enjoy SB 50 like I enjoyed SB 32.

      @@GrassValleyGreg Elway earned what he got. He was a "million dollar quarterback" as a rookie and had plenty of critics ready to pounce. His first pro start was against the Steelers and he got roughed up pretty good. He said the thing he remembered from that game was Jack Lambert spitting on him. Said at that moment he wanted to give all the money back.

      Yes, Elway basically pioneered the modern day NFL Draft Day hype with his (apparently astute) refusal to play for the Baltimore Colts. He was perceived as a diva, particularly by Terry Bradshaw and the Steelers- and I can't blame them. But HOLY SMOKES should the Steelers have drafted Marino. INSANELY bad fortune in retrospect. But the Steelers did eventually draft a #7 of their own, and I'm sure you know, Ben didn't pick #7 by coincidence.

    Pat: Did it strike you as odd that in a Super Bowl show with Dolly Parton, we didn't see any football or singing?
    John: I hadn't thought about it, Pat. But in retrospect, it was kind of a rip-off. What a way to treat the loyal fans who've put up with so much nonsense from this franchise.

      @@phillyeaglesforlife5127 the Broncos defense was very underrated. I the divisional round they dominated in a 35-3 win over Miami. They gave up only 1 touchdown in the afc championship and it came right after a blocked punt that put the ball on the 1. In the super bowl the only touchdown the defense surrendered was in garbage time. So in 3 games against the better teams in the league 2 touchdowns surrendered. Denver also in the divisional round forced 3 turnovers. In the afc championship they forced 5 turnovers. In the Super Bowl Denver forced 4 turnovers. So in 3 playoff games they forced 12 to’s. They also had the best offense in the afc and would have been able to shorten the game with a good running attack against an average Vikings defense.

    People forget how big a win this was for John Elway and the Denver Broncos. I mean if somehow Broncos would've lost, Elway would been talked about as a 1-4 superbowl Qb instead of a back 2 back champion mvp qb.. big win no doubt.

      @@vulcanraven9701 No he didn't. The Packers had a great secondary, and he mostly threw deep attempts to keep the safeties back so that the running game would be unhindered. He hit a few key passes, and made several crucial runs(all for either first downs or touchdowns). And he actually played a great individual game in his first Super Bowl against the Giants...he moved the ball well against a defense that had shut down Joe Montana...And he also came out strong against Washington, until his defense collapsed and he found himself down 35-10 in a matter of minutes...His only poor performance was against the 49ers...

    Denver did miss two field goals but you gotta give Atlanta credit for keeping this game moderately close until the 4th quarter. No one really gave them a shot to begin with but if Chandler and Robinson had played better the Falcons could have made this a tight one. I feel like most people forget that Atlanta actually scored the first points of this game.

      Yeah, certainly so. It's often overlooked (or not) that Robinson got arrested the night before for off-field antics. If that hadn't happened the Falcons wouldn't have been out of focus and played a much sharper game.

    I like how Elway never quit to get back to win 2 Super Bowl wins. Broke the AFC Super Bowl curse finally. Great Head Coach (Mike Shanahan) and team, especially RB Terrell Davis.

      Having a ton of pass attempts indicates that your team doesn't have the time to run the football, which is generally an indication that your team is getting absolutely annihilated. Denver's 0-3 record in Super Bowls in the 80's (no ironic quotations needed, those were the numerical seasons), while getting outscored 136-40, seems to back that up. #somuchforyourtheory

    I’m glad my Broncos played the Falcons in this SB. I’m not sure if they could’ve stopped the Vikings. Would’ve been a better game if anything.

      I remember being very happy when the Falcons won that game over the Viking.
      I do think our Broncos still come out on top…they were just unbeatable those couple of years.

      @@kristibarnes9845 That Bronco team in '98 was the most balanced offense I've ever seen...not just between rush and pass, but between short-medium-long yardage plays....they could pick up 3rd and 1....and they could consistently gain 5-15 yards on routine plays...and they were always a threat to make the big 30+ yard plays...They were incredible.

      It would’ve been a more competitive Super Bowl with the Vikings for sure, but that begs the question- why weren't the Vikings there? The Broncos went 13-0 and finished 14-2. NFL mvp was Terrell Davis who ran for 2000 yds. The Vikings were good, but Broncos were definitely no slouches. Broncos gave up 19 (mostly garbage time) points to the Falcons on a neutral field. Vikings gave up 30 at home in the most important game of the year....

      On the redzone play calling, that was actually Denver's defensive game plan. They were gonna let Atlanta move the ball on the ground between the 20s, but they would play the run tighter on 1st and 2nd and bring the house and make Chandler throw it if they wanted TDs.

      The truth is this is NOT Elway's last NFL game because he would go on to start the 1999 Pro Bowl the following week. Elway threw a 3 yard TD pass to Buffalo's Sam Gash for his final TD pass of his career. This was his only drive of the game. Elway was the simply awesome!

    74 on the Broncos Oline is literally a brick wall with quick feet. That's a deadly combo to have as an Offensive Lineman. A nightmare for DEs. Somebody that big should not be that athletic. BIG SWAYNE!

    The history book briefly tells us Atlanta had no business being on that field with Denver. But you watch the tape and really, it's just two interceptions that won Denver the game. Atlanta coulda even still recovered from the first one

    All that was missing was Pat's comment after the Rod Smith touchdown (will have to review the DVD when I transferred my copy from VHS or watch a full game upload; but it's along the lines of "We almost didn't get back in time {FOX had a long promo for "The Matrix" immediately before the touchdown}. Atlanta's defense didn't get back.")

    Elway passes were rockets. I am watching this 3/2023, I still think he is the hardest throwing QB ever. And he could finesse it. Many interceptions he threw were just catchable balls bouncing off the receiver. as in this game.
