It’s a very old song written in 1913. Many renditions. Home Free is a cappella so every sound is from their mouths. Adam (beatboxer) was doing the drums, harmonica and other sounds. Chance, also in the back row, was doing the mouth harp with his mouth. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can sing real low and sing up with the tenors. Austin was the lead this time and Rob (glasses) second lead. They are country but can sing any genre. Try End of the Road.

Much older out of folk tradition is several variants, maybe up to 200-300 years. First recorded in one of several concurrent variants in the 1910s and 1920s

You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

He's Adam Rupp, beatboxer/vocal percussionist extraordinaire and you should really check out one of his drum solos from a live performance. As for soul these guys do a fantastic cover of Boyz2Men End of the Road and Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves a Woman. They're both at the top with the originals. Glad you dropped into Home Free; and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others.
Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist.
Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible.
Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes.
Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul.
Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound.
There is no permanent lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). ..
This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing.
Take the time to discover Home Free because it will be a great tour. For me they are number 1 A-Cappella group

I saw this a cappella group in Sept. 2022 in Spokane, WA. Really fun concert! This song was written over 100 years ago (without the scatchin' 😄). The opening sound is made by Adam Chance (back row, dark vest). Adam Rupp is the beatboxer and simulates the harmonica in this one but he's a multitalented freak of nature! 🥰 He can do anything INCLUDING sing! Austin Brown has the main lead here (possibly my favorite vocalist - front center) while sharing it with Ron Lundquist (AMAZINGLY smoooooth voice and wearing the overalls)! Tim Foust (longish dark hair) usually sings bass but has a sick multi range ability! The ONLY a cappella group for me. ❤❤❤❤❤

Bro! Dig it! There is not one single musical instrument of any kind in this group! They're an a-capella group. The term "a capella" refers to "choir singing" in Italian. But in pop culture it has come to define vocal groups that produce all the sounds by mouth, even the percussion. So they use their voices to mimic the sounds of musical instruments. That higher pitched sound you asked about is the guy mimicking a harmonica. The "weird" (sort of "buzzing" sound in the intro is someone in the group mimicking what's known as a "mouth harp". Google "mouth harp" to see photos of a mouth harp looks like. They're pretty difficult to play well.

  • @MGTOWPaladin
    @MGTOWPaladin Před rokem +1

The noise at the beginning and throughout the song is someone, probably Adam Chance, making the sound of a juice harp or jews harp. The harmonica sound is done by the beat-boxer, Adam Rupp.
Three members, Tim Foust (bass), Adam Chance (baritone), and Austin Brown (tenor- lead singer) are from the South: Texas, Georgia, and Alabama respectively.
The best-boxer, Adam Rupp and other tenor, Ron Lunquist (with the beard) are from Minnesota.
A former member and Adam Rupp's brother, Chris Rupp, started the group and left after a few years, but you'll see him on other videos. When Chris left, Adam Chance took his place.

I would have to research it to get the names, but I can picture them. ( I had a brain tumoir removed in 2020 that affected my memory centers. The guy with the hands over his mouth was making the harmonica sound. My mother used to do that for us kids, she passed 2 weeks after my surgery.

I started falling in love with a Capella groups about 3 years ago, and never looked back.....just the skill alone, in creating instruments like in a band, with just their voices, sets these groups apart from all the rest, and their skills are beyond mention! Another thing I also appreciate as well, is they are able to cross genres with ease, as in the case, where Home Free is generally Country, they can also do soul, rock pop, and everything in-between. The droning sound at the start and end is an instrument that has several names, but is a traditional backing instrument for southern and bluegrass music. It was originally called a 'jews harp', because southern Christians in the past thought it resembled harps like the ones played by Hebrew King David and others in biblical times. It's now called a 'jaw harp' or 'mouth harp' because it's played by insertion just behind the lips. You can maintain the tone or change the pitch by changing lip/cheek manipulation. It's used to provide a backing drone and/or rhythmic structure to a song with or without other percussive instrumentation. It was never to 'call animals' in any fashion.
Note: some think this is meant to sound like a digeridoo; wrong continent and culture.
The 'squawky' instrument that the beatboxer does with hands on his mouth in what he calls his 'no-monica', which is to saw he's recreating a harmonica sound. I expect you know what a harmonica is, but if you don't, then use the CZcams search for 'Blues Travelers', a band whose lead guy uses a number of harmonicas (each in a different key). It's an instrument very common in Delta blues music and pops up in prison, cowboy, and WWII films. Also a strictly musical instrument; never used to call or direct animals.
"Man of Constant Sorrow" is a classic traditional bluegrass song, made famous by the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou", which was set in the 1930s South. What they're wearing in the video is an homage to the film.
I highly recommend you react to their versions of "All About That Bass" and "When A Man Loves A Woman".

He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance).
