Does a lot of the current music suck? Maybe. When Rock n Roll was young in the late 50s/early 60s, it was something new, so it had an edge. During the late 60s/early 70s, it had messages of peace, love and progressive change. During the late 70s, 80s, and 90s into the early 2000s, there were various movements with messages, ideas and breakthrough sounds. But, that seems to have been on the wane. Where are the new movements? I'm not a huge fan of Rap, but when it came out, it had party sounds [Rapper's Delight] and message sounds [The Message]. Gangsta Rap has been a bad thing in my opinion. Enough about bitches, ho's, drugs, crime, murder, etc. And, much of Hip Hop has lost its edge. There are lots of samples from sounds of the 70s, 80s, 90s with much less innovation. So, does current music suck? Well, maybe.

I was born in the 50s when Rock N Roll was just getting a good foothold .My mother grew up listening to big bands and swing type music, and classic country on the radio.She graduated during WWII. She would tell me how much grandma complained about music changing too much and too fast for her to keep up with it.I think listening in the 40s and 50s without the benefit of TV would have seemed like a big jump when suddenlly you had visual stimuli daily instead of just when you went to the cinemas. I remember when this song came out and also thought how music was changing so much.We had went from just straight simple categories of rock,county,or Motown,and now we had subcategories and new genres to the point that older folks were feeling the brunt of evolution again. You're correct when you say it is the same now, just a different day.Except now I think a lot of people feel over stimulated or over=whelmed all the time .
