  • We often tell the story of #Adam in the context of the Fall and Original Sin, but this time, Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Safiyyah Ally explore what Eve’s story tells us about the portrayal of #women in the religious scriptures. What do we know of Eve? Is she a seducer to be blamed? Not in the #Quran, Dr. Shabir Ally says.

      Sounds like an atheistic comment. However, while you can provide this as a possibility the difference is that in the Quran Allah Chapter 7:20 mentions how they were told by Allah that Satan was their declared enemy and it was forbidden for them to eat from the tree. Satan describes eating from the tree to becoming angel like and/or immortal. So they were forewarned and they were also deceived. Those are two different instances where they were told right from wrong and they fell into deceit by taking into account what Satan said and not Allah. So they are both to blame for this. It's something we call accountability today. We all should have it as adults.

      @@MacMac1313 Whats wrong with desiring to be immortals? isnt that the idea of worshipping God because we want to be like angels and immortals? God show Adam and Eve death everywhere in the garden... they see animlas die and saw the realities of this temporary life.... so they are acting on instinct to choose survival and immortality... but Allah want us to learn something beyond our animal calling to become spiritual and immortals in the afterlife... and only with this journey in this world, the falling and rising, we evolve and attain our perfection...

    These are some of the major differences between the Biblical account of Adam and Eve and the Quranic one:
    - The Bible says it was a tree of knowledge, the Qur'ân makes no such mention. According to the Qur'ân, man is inherently inspired with the knowledge of good and evil and Adam was taught the nature of all things, even before his disobedience.
    - In the Biblical account, woman carries the burden of that mistake and in punishment God multiplied her agony in childbirth. There is not a single verse in the Qur'ân which suggests or implies in any way that the woman bears primary responsibility for that mistake. Pregnancy is described in the Qur'ân as noble and praiseworthy.
    - In the Bible, Eve is tempted by Satan who takes the form of a serpent. The Qur'ân says Satan tempted both of them and there is no mention at all of serpent, viper or snake.
    - After their disobedience, the Bible does not at all mention that Adam and Eve repented, whereas the Qur'ân emphasizes this point. According to the Qur'ân, they repented and God forgave them.
    - The Bible suggests that their coming to live on earth was a sort of punishment, while the Qur'ân says that was God's plan even before He created them.

The reason I ask is that commonly a location will be identified as the tomb of some personage only to find out later that the location is actually empty (see: King David). Supposedly Aaron is buried in Petra and Ibrahim is buried in Hebron. Is there actually the body of Mohammed (pbuh) located in his tomb in Medina? Thoughts? In actuality when it says "desire" it is not to mean wants to be with. It means to be in an ongoing conflict with her husband. Meaning she will desire to rule over her husband but he will rule over her. Even if you go by the Christian standpoint Adam is the blame it is basically why he was condemned to work himself to death. Even from the Christian standpoint Eve is getting blame but Adam is really getting the bulk of the blame because he did not rebuke Eve and chastise the actions as the leader.

      Nope. The original word means "turning" in other words she shall turn towards her husband and he SHALL rule meaning a prophecy not a prescription of what was to happen. Man was NEVER in a position to be leader of Eve. That's reading into scripture something that was never said.

    • @BigWelt
      @BigWelt Před rokem

      @scourge3 If a person is a Christian they believe the covenant was made with Adam and God. Once Eve was created, Adam named what she was and who she was. He never came down and spoke to Eve about the duties of the Garden. A covenant is established with the one who is in charge. I have resources I can provide, but I am not sure if it's proper on this Muslim page. This is speaking from a Christian belief standpoint.

    • @scourge3
      @scourge3 Před rokem

      @Welt B That's only true if the person accepts the Covenant. No God determined Who she was. The only thing Adam did was gave her a name. There is no indication that Eve was to be lead by Adam. I have sources also.

    Yet there are many woman preachers in Christianity, yet no so many women religious leaders in Islam or Judaism. It seems that Christians understanding of these verses is totally different from it is depicted here. To be sure, the show is a short segment that tried to unpack a complex issue in a very short interval of time. The letters attributed to Paul can be questioned in Christianity, that is because the faith existed before those letters were written, and such letters had essentially ministerial functions to the various churches. Those letters also display reasoning and conclusions that the Christians is allowed to interpret and evaluate rigorously and critically. Thus the intellectual predisposition in Christianity offers a lot of room for intellectual flexibility and reasoning. The Islamic approach is very different insofar as more emphasis is submission, even without understanding. As such, Christians have been more successful at addressing sexism in religious functions and political and public life than Muslims, which explains why you can see so many women pastors, street preachers, ministers in churches (although the circumstances differ depending on the denomination followed), also in most Christians societies it’s easier for women to run for public offices and be elected as leaders.
    Islam can’t claim a theology that is more positive towards women without first correcting the narrative that women can’t perform certain religious role or should be limited in her functions in society- it’s a dichotomy between the claim of the religion and what it actually teaches and practice.
    A very interesting topic, but I wish were addressed with much less bias from the host. I also think Dr Shabir may have a more integrative faith where he may be quite comfortable with the idea of a society where men and women are equal socially, culturally, politically, and economically. Interesting show.

    Common sense should give the understanding that God did not create this large planet for one man to inhabit and since Adam who was made with a reproductive system could not reproduce humanity by himself, should clue in any intelligent being that God intended to create woman from the beginning and she was not an after thought.
    God may have even created Eve the same time he created Adam but bring Adam to life first so he can use his rib to complete the woman to make them genetically compatible in every way and physically connected.

    I respect his wider knowledge compared to other religious speakers but he also just like 99.9% of Abrahamaic faith leaders has not understood hidden Abrahamic messages.. Adam & Eve is the most misunderstopd story of humanity.
    The irony is that the tree they ate fruit from is called "Tree of Knowledge". Abrahamic God sees Knowledge as a bad thing for humans. It also gives the reason why.
    In bible it say, by gaining knowledge, humans reach status of God. They become god-like( Evolution process) and therefore eating from it must be forbidden.
    Knowledge is the most essential element for evolution process. The Abrahamic God wants the humans remain controlled and be forever on earth. It wants a servant version of human race. The highest good of human beings which is evolution is not his priority. Therefore he labels the snake as evil to fulfill his purpose and keep humans in ignorance rather finding their true divine nature through knowledge. (He does it for the good of humanity. So those who still have the courage to eat the fruit of wisdom afger his words, wojld be qualified for evolution as result of their intelligence and not beung ruled by demonic FEAR)
    The snake of the story wants to make you liberated. He is not the villain of the story. Quite opposite... people must understand Snake and God are not even two separate entities. They are two different manifestations(actors) of the same divine, playing the divine game on you with two diffetent roles.
    They are not Two. THEY ACT AS TWO. BUT THEY ARE ONE. One instills fear in your heart and the other one trying to push you to find your divinity. At the end those are able to use their intelligence and understand the divine beyond this duality show of God vs Satan and by dissolving fear and coming out successfully from this paradox game of the divine, get liberated.
    Nevertheless, it is not a stance against Abrahamic religions. It is just that to get liberated through them and evolve, one must be able to go beyond literal reading of their books and understand them beyond an ordinary person is capable of. So the percentage of such people is quite insignificant.

      You can play any pronoun games you want... however god also refers to himself with a male pronoun doesn't make Him male gendered languages use pronouns and when a group of people contain even one man the masculine pronoun is used. This is a very poor excuse to be ignorant
