    Abundance keeps from getting milled out. Because it replaces drawing a card with it's ability. Even if you have no deck. It fails to find a card and your draw step ends. Abundance is also great in Chulane 😂

    • @prob094
      @prob094 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah so good with Chulane, and works the same way for Uro. It also synergises with other synergistic pieces in those decks like Sylvan Library, Teferi's Ageless Insight etc. With Sylvan library you get to 'draw' two additional cards every draw step without paying the 8 life... and you can choose land or non-land! So fun : )

Dowsing Dagger is great in that strategy as well. I also play Seed the Land, which puts a 1/1 Snake into play when someone plays a land, along with Ophiomancer, which can grow Grismold on each upkeep when the Snake token dies.
    It's really fun

    I got into MTG because I really liked the art of Sarulf, Realm Eater. Then I discovered the Sarulf - Ashaya interaction that boardwipes everyone else's boards but leaves mine untouched. I went down a deep rabbit hole trying to buff this interaction without being a deck people hate to play against, but I think I reached the point where just having Sarulf as my commander instantly makes me the common enemy and get deleted no matter what.

    My favorite thing with selvala is that her activated ability is a mana ability, so it can't be responded to and doesnt use the stack.
    Using this knowledge in a cEDH game I once drew my opponents out of the game one card at a time without having to pass priority because I knew they all had fewer cards left in their libraries than I did.
    1. I made unlimited mana using a creature that taps for 4+ mana and Umbral Mantle
    2. I moved Umbral Mantle to Selvala.
    3. I tapped Selvala to activate her mana ability which does not use the stack and cannot be responded to.
    4. I then paid 3 mana and untapped selvala as a COST to put Umbral Mantle's ability on the stack retaining priority
    5. Since I still have priority and Selvala is now untapped I can tap her again to activate her mana ability to force everyone to draw a card which does not use the stack and cannot be responded to.
    6. Loop steps 4 and 5 until everyone runs out of cards
    Even though I knew my pod drew into several split second spells with the mana to cast them, since I never passed priority, they never had the ability to put them on the stack.

    Abundance is a fun card, i use it in my Aesi, Tyrant of Dire Strait landfall deck to make sure i hit maximum land drops every turn cuz i draw one or multiple cards for every land i play and create tokens and i gain life and i can play like 5 lands a turn and drop some extra lands in other ways. Abundance also makes sure i dont draw lands at the end of my turn when i have played the max for that turn. The key is to make sure to keep one land in hand for next turn and you can start the whole cycle again. Abundance doesnt win on its own but it just throws my strategy into overdrive when i have a few engine pieces like Aesi and Tutyova

    Been watching and listening to y’all for YEARS. Super happy with your content as per usual!
    Might I suggest 2 more strategies I don’t see often?
    1. Life exchange (Orzhov or mono-black). Revolves around using cards that A. Bring down life total, in a controlled way and B. Win by exchanging your now-low life total with opponents’. I use Liesa for mine!
    2. Polymorphers. Whole deck has 5-6 super fatty creatures, and the entire rest of deck does nothing but produce tokens, draw cards, and Polymorph (Divergent Transformations, Lukka, etc). My favorite one is helmed by Naheela, but Illuna is fun too!

    Had a moment of pure joy with my Akiri deck a few days ago when I was staring down lethal commander damage from a creature that definitely did not used to be that big. I thought I was doomed. I'd swung out the turn before because the coast seemed clear. Then I realized I could use Akiri's ability to pull one of the new reconfigure cards (specifically the bunny) off of one of my tapped creatures and throw it up as a blocker. I've played that deck a lot now and every time I find some new way to be the most scrappy player at the table.

    @LadyTsunade777 Před 2 lety +2

    Abundance: I always consider it for any G or Gx deck, even without thinking about combos, because it is card selection even on its own. The ability to say "I need to draw a land here" or "I want to draw something I can cast here" is very important I think. Plus, it replaces all draws, so you never mill out, and the art is by Rebecca Guay, one of my favorite Magic artists.
    Tahngarth: Goes real well with a couple of specific green cards - Vines of Vastwood and Canopy Cover. These are _not_ hexproof, but actually spell out that the opponents of the player who control Vines/Canopy can't target the creature. So, even if Tahngarth is on someone else's field, they can't target him even if they control him, and your other opponents can't target him, but you still can.
    Reincarnation: An important note here is that the controller of Reincarnation chooses what creature comes back, not the controller of the creature that dies; and also that you can indeed choose to bring back the same creature that just died, since the second part doesn't target.
    Selvala: Speaking of doing weird things with her, there's a _super_ weird interaction where you do exactly as you say - trying to cast something, not getting enough mana, then reversing what you can - but you do all that to a Panglacial Wurm while you were searching your library (with a fetchland or something), and if you're at a sanctioned event you now get a punishment for cheating (because you intentionally took a path with a possible illegal choice reversal situation, with the intention of gaining more information (in this case, what the next card on top of your library would have been))

    my favorite use of abundance is putting it into a deck like tatyova and getting triggers from kodama. You can play a land from your hand, ensure you get a land, then get another card right after. you can also put things like panharmonicon or ancient greenwarden to further stack the triggers so that you can get most of the pieces you need in a single turn. I've had a lot of fun with combos like this recently as they just make you feel powerful even if you lose the game

    The biggest "cracking" moment I've had in a game was Great Henge + Woodfall Primus + sac outlet. It ends up being a Vandalblast + asymmetrical Armageddon. Add in a Dictate of Erebos or Butcher of Malakir and you end up with the only person at the table with any board state at all, and a fistful of cards. Mechtitan Core can be activated in response to an artifact board wipe, exiling your strongest 4 artifact creature to play the token. Once the spell resolves and the token dies, you still get to keep your artifacts as they return to the board. It's in a way a mini teferi's pro for 4 artifact creatures/vehicles! Not exactly a instant "you win" or combination of abilities, but a creative way to use it's effect for unintended purposes.

    Not anything new but I loved cracking Dark Depths into my Kura, the Boundless Sky deck much inspired by Mitch. The idea is to sac the commander to fetch Dark Depths/Tespian Stage combo. Then do silly things with Marit Lage out (STR doublers, janky combat cards like Ram Through or Monstrous Onslaught or card draw engine equal to the highest STR of your creatures). I also included Mirrage Box and some populate cards... because why not !
    Super fun deck to pilot.

    For Abundance, I have it in a Gretchen land smash deck. The whole deck is based around Growth Spiral types of effects, and then animating the lands for the win con. Since there's so many effects in the deck that do the same thing, like Tatyova, growth spiral, etc you can really go to town with Abundance.
    For comboing all your lands out, I have a few mana dorks such as Llanowar scout and Kiora's Follower, plus Retreat to Coralhelm (or similar) to allow you to easily dump 10 lands or more onto the battlefield in a turn. For example, you have retreat to coralheim, Llanowar scout, and Tatyova, with your Abundance. You play a land, Tayova puts a land into your hand with Abundance. Tap Llanowar Scout and put that land onto the battlefield. Retreat to Coralhelm and Tatyova trigger so you untap Llanowar Scout and put the next land into your hand. Repeat infinitely.
    Another option is to use Scouting Trek to put all your lands on top of your library and use all the land dumpers and untappers splurge all the lands out. Even if you don't get all the lands on the battlefield in one turn with scouting trek, it's fine as you can use abundance, abundant harvest, or selective memory to get past them. Also you Selective Memory is great as you can use it to get rid of all the land searchers from the deck once all the lands are in play, since the deck consistently gets all (or nearly all) the lands out, and those land search cards are dead draws afterwards. I know this is a 4 card combo, but since the deck is mostly these types of cards, you can very easily dump a ton on lands in one turn with a variety of cards.
    Here's the deck list:

    I was super excited about the Hunted cards when I came across them and I finally built a deck for them! A Pramikon group slug strategy all about forced combat, giving my opponents things to crack over each other's heads, giving everyone gas. Eiganjo Uprising is an ALL STAR in it. Plus a Suture Priest for the spice. It's magical.

    "Enchanted evening" and "Ajani's Chosen" will make the game come to a draw, unless you or someone else can stop the loop. Since tokens are permanents entering the battlefield, the chain will be infinite.

    • @andrewsparkes6275
      @andrewsparkes6275 Před 2 lety

      Just to clarify for confused people: The tokens themselves are permanents, and thus are also enchantments because of Enchanted Evening...which then causes Chosen to see an enchantment ETB, so makes another new token...which then causes Chosen to make another new token...infinitely!

    • @shogostarr6218
      @shogostarr6218 Před 2 lety +3

      Nonsense. All you have to do is refuse to demonstrate that you have a loop. Instead, have a pile of 1,000 cat tokens in your bag, and then slowly pull them out and put them onto the table one at a time. Then stare your opponents in the eyes and tell them that they can concede at any time.

    • @andrewsparkes6275
      @andrewsparkes6275 Před 2 lety

      @@shogostarr6218 And then they don't concede, and ask how you want to ultimately break the loop, because if you can't, the game will be a draw. At which point, you won't admit to it and continue while staring at them dead-eyed, they just to call a judge and get you to lose the game due to slow play. So the best outcome, even for you, is to admit to it and get a draw out of it.

Then, if they still don't concede after that, I'll eventually destroy one of the cards that sis creating the loop. You can also have that same problem with Siona/Shielded by Faith. You can also have Sigarda's Aid out, casting an aura as flash during opponent's end step, then attacking your next turn. That normally ends the game as well.

My current one used Progenitus as the secret commander, which runs a bunch of anthems, haste enablers, draw spells, removal, ect... If the board gets wiped, it shuffles itself back into the deck and gets tutored out again next upkeep. As long as nobody uses an exile board wipe....

If you fill the deck with mostly crew 2 or crew 1 vehicles, they're ready to go as soon as they're on the battlefield. Plus Alela gives you esper colors, which is what most vehicle centric cards are in (Greasefang, Kotori, Losheel, ect.)

It started with “Wait, what about his synergy with Artifact lands…?”, then it started down a train of “What artifacts get lands onto the battlefield?” and “Oh, White helps out a lot”, along with “How can I make sure the White lamp ramp can be online? Oh, I need to find cards in Red and White that sacrifice lands!” I’m still tinkering with it, planning out the cards, ratios on lands, what works with what, and I’m just so close! But everything adds up to cracking Landfall into being actually playable without Green, and it’s because of a Boros commander of all things!
