Hey guys, sweet video update on the Rode Video Mic Pro range. I really like the safety track feature of the Pro Plus - that is golden. Does the mic power on when it detects plug-in power from the camera? The automatic powering on of the microphone with cameras which do not allow audio monitoring is the big gotcha that this would overcome.

I would love to see an stereo videomic pro+ being released. I have used the Pro since 2014 and am really tired to send 3-4 in for repair due to the permanently attached audio cable being loose.

I love my Rode mics, I have a lot of them. These are great videos.

Oh I should add - I'm recording vide my iPhone 11 Pro and mic plugged into it. So no level control. I prefer plug n play and not messing with features however I am open to doing so if it gives me better audio.

Looking to upgrade my audio. I shoot live concerts & use a digital audio recorder with an external mic to capture audio. I am trying to decide between the Stereo VideoMic X and the TF-5 matched pair. Any recommendations?

I have a few rode mics and other gear. but most are shotgun mics or laviers. with 360 cameras being more a thing now. im trying to find a better omi directional mic to mount near my 360 camera. anything rode makes that can help with that?

The Wireless GO II is probably your best option particular if you have a very small space to mount the mic. The length of shotgun mics such as the VideoMicro may be suitable, however for most they will probably protrude into a 360 field of view.

"If you have any questions, comment below." I sure don't see any answers.. I'm looking for recommendation. I have Micro but it's got me hungry for even better audio. Mostly talking head shots, VoiceOver, and occasional live shot such as my unboxing video. The NTG5 was suggested to me but I don't see it in this video.
The question is - Am I better off with Pro+, VideoMic, or NTG?
I don't think I see much benefit to these features here, but maybe some provide overall better quality for what I'm wanting. I'll admit I do have a noisy AC and fridge that I turn off while recording. But that's not my priority. Assume those are off in every session - which mic gives me the best most professional sound?

Happy to help! Any of those mics will improve your audio, however the VideoMic Pro+ and VideoMic NTG will give you the most in terms of features. Both of these have a safety track, High-Pass Filter, Gain Control, and auto on/off, however the VideoMic NTG is also a fully-fledged USB mic! That makes it super versatile to use with whichever audio record you want. The VideoMic NTG also has a more directional, shotgun sound where as the VideoMic Pro+ has the more broader, warmer classic VideoMic sound.

RØDE Microphones Thanks for response! Called you all earlier but no one was free. Yeah I’m really trying to look at the plug n play quality, aside from features. Like I said there won’t be much background noise so I’m just looking for quality for voiceovers and talking heads. Using my iPhone 11 Pro. Does that help give me a recommendation?
Other filmmakers are recommending the NTG and moreso the NTG5. If the 5 is much better, I could handle putting it on its own stand (it doesn’t fit on-camera right?) if it’s going to give me better audio. For unboxing videos I sometimes stand behind camera anyway so a boom stand is required at that point anyway. Also I’m told the mount of the NTG5 is superior. So maybe NTG5 Is the way to go. Does it require a separate preamp? Which of these mics would be your first pick for me? How about second pick? This will help me out a lot.
Keep in mind I don’t want to have to mess with any kind of switches or controls or anything. But I can if I need to and I learn how to do it and it’s something I can pretty much not have to tinker with.
Another question: does the safety track build right into the video file on my iPhone? Something I won’t see until I move the file into my program? Or how does that work. I know how the tech works but I’m wondering as far as accessing it.
Right now I’m using these type of microphones because I prefer the track to be recorded right onto the video file on my iPhone. Because I can just use airdrop and suddenly it’s on my computer and then I drag it right into my program without any type of file management. Then I can separate the audio file from the video if I want. But to me it sounds a lot easier than recording audio separately and then trying to sync up the tracks.

Pair it with the mics windshield (usually available separately) and it'll block wind!
