  • The Dia Art Foundation opened Dia Beacon in 2003 to hold its collection of contemporary art. The collection is housed in a former Nabisco box printing factory from 1929.
Open Office architects collaborated with the artist Robert Irwin on the design. The forecourt and side yard have gardens designed by Irwin with the former administration wing converted to a cafe, bookstore and offices.
Restrained modifications reinforce the industrial character and demonstrate an inventive reuse of former industrial buildings. The natural light flows through the original sawtooth skylights and clerestory windows. This design is a new approach to museum design for large scale exhibitions with expansive, flexible open spaces.
Nearby in downtown Beacon you will find the Beacon Bread Company for breakfast or lunch. Take the trip to Beacon for a great experience with contemporary art.
