  • Last year we had the opportunity to borrow a demo Corsair 880 for a few months. We raced it, cruised it, trailered it, and sailed it in all sorts of conditions. We documented it all on our main channel here • Corsair Sailing Trimaran One of our incredible Patrons recently had a question about weight and options on the Corsair 880 so I created this short video to hopefully answer these questions.

I appreciate the answers and value your thoughts!!! Good luck on the getting the new trawler up to scratch. (I'm not planning on racing; in fact I am planning to use it to run the great loop, perhaps in sections). I already own the Honda 2000 inverter but may upgrade to the 2200i if needed.

I have an 880 Sport. When I took possession of it, there were virtually no options on it. I can't speak to the electric stove, but as far as the lithium is concerned. I ended up having a victron 200Ah smart lithium put in w/ a Victron smart BMS (I left the existing AGM as the starter battery tied to the outboard and the BMS, but you don't need a large starter). It's as light as the Mastervolt that's advertised as an option. I also ended up doing solar after market to get to 220W with a Victron controller. I am only running instruments (which I did after market and more extensive than the options), fridge and AIS/VHF, but I have no need to have shore power with this setup. I would highly recommend this setup for the battery / solar portion of the install.

    A 29 ft trimaran for $154k. $154 thousand, that’s insane!

I think I’d go with a mid 2000s Corsair/Farrier F36/37 or Dragonfly 920 for that kind of money.

I have a question. If u run heavy can you bring the Corsair on to the plane quicker using the outboard engine and then cut it once the plane is achieved?

QUESTION: does the engine on an 880 recharge the house battery when its on??

Yes it does. Only a few amps though, not more than 10 or 12.
