- čas přidán 20. 11. 2023
- Just 149 players remain in the 2004 WSOP Main Event, and Mike Matusow headlines the feature table alongside Greg "Fossilman" Raymer and John Esposito. However, it would be John Murphy, Josh Arieh, and Marcel Luske climbing to the top of the leaderboard.

This is what was popular, not the modern coverage. The stories, the characters, the advertisement of a dream - the long-shot potential of the everyday person. It's a shame they don't make it like this anymore. The commentary is perfect, quality, not quantity.
Exactly. A Big Shame.
@@suhas.7760 well said. Now it's like watching a math class. They took the human element out of the show... I get it... but maybe mix things up a bit.
I usually skip over stories about the players. For every one that might be interesting there are 10 boring ones. Moreover, it's likely the stories are edited and/or sensationalized at the expense of their accuracy.
Poker announcers now are horrible! They see the whole cards and then add analysis... AND they speak as if the audience are complete morons or the most intelligent poker minds. Norman said it best, if you want it interesting you have to add commentary afterwards.
Theres always the ws of jacks. Or Darts championship.
Watching this tournament on TV is what actually got me into poker
Literally same, started off with $5 tourneys with friends & still love the game just as much almost 20 years later 😌👌🏼
Mike+blow+camera=gold
Really enjoying these older tournament vids!! Takes me back honestly. Better times.
I could watch Matusaw cry like a baby all day long.
Mikes aggresion cost him this tournament he was re raising with AJ off suit and other crazy hands
I was so happy for raymer....mike truly deserved to get busted in the worst way possible - NO....NO....NO.....NO....NO! WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME! (CRYING LIKE A BABY)
I’m not going to feel bad for Mike busting with AK vs AQ. I mean the man risked over 240k in chips with middle pair with the pot at only 80k. He’s too much of a gambler.
It's so crazy how advanced and aggressive the game has become. Just calling a raise with AQ or JJ is a thing of the past. Those hands are 3-bet every time (or most times) now days.
Absolutely love these old WSOP. Keep em coming please!
Raymer goes all in for 240k in a 80k pot and is still called by second pair wow
Poker was magical back in 2004 lol.
10k$ buy-in was like 1$ now, I regret I was 14 y.o at that time)
I still think that hand between Raymer and Matusow was one of the most iconic poker hands. The one around 23:31. It was a GIGANTIC pot relative to the tournament stage. 550k pot when the average stack was only like 100k
It was a terrible call by Matusow
Matusow let his emotions get the best of him bc he wanted to bust Raymer so bad he could have picked a better spot
“Thank you for busting me, Mike” 😂
It was a great call by Mike.
@@christophera3330 how do you figure? What hand is he ahead of?
“I’ll be fine” Mikes last words lol
I want Doyle to win. He replied to a tweet once and it really lifted me. He was a lovely human being and mastered the game.
that's awesome
He didn’t run his social media so that wasn’t even him
@@saljablo2767 I was in a conversation with Phil helmuth and Doyle, it was Doyle, go get a life and quit churning negativity.
@@breakit46 it wasn’t Doyle.
@@saljablo2767 keep doing the same thing and see if you find change
Imagine introducing yourself to a stranger as “Fossil Man”
2576 entrants in 2004 and then 10,043 entrants in 2023!
Do you have any idea how tilting it is to watch an ad on the upload and then a CZcams ad plays immediately after
cant take that mike matusow
"Cool down period" refers to Mike Matasow killing a snowman with his face. Glad Mike doesn't hurt his nostrils any longer.
its's like getting high just from looking at him....
Back then, it was about feelings and people. Today it's all about numbers, GTO and interchangeable nerds. 2003 to 2007 we really had fun-loving, extroverted characters with cojones. This hunger is still the reason why we celebrate today when entertaining players like DNegs or Hellmuth emerge, such as Karl-Chappe-Gatien, Dao Minh Phú, Ren Lin or Danny Tang. Long live extroversion! Long live the personal expression of life!
Stop it will ya, I grew up watching these episodes and love revisiting, but you can't say that. The players and the plays they make are absolutely shocking. Fishy
Interchangeable nerds.
DNegs is somewhat of a GTO nerd now and Hellmuth was playing close to correct hold'em poker in tournaments before tournament strategy and math became widely available.
Really enjoyed watching this. Far more entertaining than alot stuff today.
Wish I could go back to this time. Poker sucks now
The year Joe Hachem won was incredible too. The broadcast and visuals just make it feel totally different then what they are doing with the WSOP currently.
The guy at 16:17 is the type of footage that made WSOP coverage fun to watch. Now you'd get a penalty for cussing.
I remember being on twoplustwo as the tournament unfolded and we were all railing fossilman in real time online as it got deep. He was one of us. Fun times.
Greg won the event, Mike hasn't ever won it? That queen on the river was brutal though.
i miss the rabbit cam
keep it coming keep it coming
Matusaw crying because he was so far in debt trying to pay his stakers back is kind of sad tbh
Hilger was so close to that "All-In!?" Being verbally binding... Raymer announces all-in and Hilger says "All In" thats close.
I just noticed that too. Thats pretty risky on his part to just use those two words but in the form of a question.
How many times can Ace King lose? Amazing. It missed board after board in this episode. And it cost Matusow the main event. Ace Queen is the worst best hand in poker and make no mistake about it, Ace King is right behind it. Phil Hellmuth wisely said at the WSOP main event in 2015. After he lost a big flip with Queens vs ace king all in pre-flop against Daniel Negreanu. He said “A lot of players are looking to play big pots with Ace King all the time, I am not.” And he knows what he is talking about. Ace king can be so dangerous.
It was around this time AK was also called Anna Kornivikova, looks pretty but doesn't win much. Lol. In cash games and early in tournaments it is practically any non pair. But it can be wielded like a weapon late in tournaments, it is a hand that can be played aggressively, and often can give you an advantage if played correctly.
I think A-K IS the worst best hand in poker. Way too many people go nuts with it and I see more people get knocked out with it than A-Q.
Lmao. Raymer just 3x pot shove and matusow calls with middle pair and acts like it's even a remotely decent call
Shocking stuff
87th out of 2,600 and you only doubled up? yikes
Today in what if. What if Greg hadn’t hit that flush against Mike?
I’ve preferred not ever have seen Ivey’s swing lol what a letdown
Anyone have any ideas where i can get these glasses?
Spencer's gifts, a novelty type of shop or you're gonna have to wait til Halloween stores pop up.
I think off his website.
A9o opens and AQs and JJ flat!
Wow...won't see that crap today.
Yep today both would be an instafold
Man o man, back when if you were ruthlessly aggressive you could basically print money, especially in events like this!
John Murphy is an old man today. 40
42 * 😭😭
Can you imagine if that kid had a fake ID and got kicked out as chip leader😂😂
LoL Amazing 😂😂😂
Mike the Legend in the Fast Lane
The golf hahah
MIKE MATUSOW CRYING 😭 24:33 42:33
MIKE MATUSOW CRYING 😭 24:33 42:33
"See the call I made on the guy earlier?!?" Yeah, the one where you were an underdog right? 🤣🤣🤣
@@usernamesrlamo
It was a bad call because of Raymer's range, but he did get the correct pot odds to call given Raymer's actual hand.
It was an absolutely shocking call, blinds like 3 and 6k 🤣🤣
There’s WAY better spots, no reason to hero that late in tourney. It was simply a spite/ego call because he wanted to bust Raymer.
Those where the days.
Love the 🐇 📷
4:23 This larrson fellow calls off 75% of his stack with AJo preflop. Wow 2004 was magical....
They were calling off with worse in a big buy in like this and they jus act like it’s normal lol pros jus quietly keeping their thoughts to themselves
That AJ call to the all in has horrible 🤮
It's hard to know the stack sizes and the blind and ante level in the old broadcasts.
Ty Pokergo!
31:10 These are interesting hands to think about. What if Murphy had called and there was a flop such as AJ3 and Raymer goes broke getting knocked out on Day 4 versus winning the tournament....
i think you have a different definition of interesting to everyone else
what a bonehead call by Matusow... middle pair, day 4, 150 left, healthy stack
he was ahead and could knock out Raymer who got lucky
No he wasn't@@DaveDepilot-KFRG
@DaveDepilot-KFRG he was ahead by maybe 5%... in other words he flipped for it
Guaranteed matusows hand vs Raymer when he gets koed keep him up at night every night forever
32:44 Ivey “you got me out the house for $500 a hole?”
Ill never forget when Mike the Mouth cried live on TV for the world to see
"Poker players have all the control on the card table, and no control off of it"
Phil Hellmuth Jr : “ Mike Matusow has a heart of gold….”
Myself: Your not wrong Phil, “the mouth” is all heart. He learned from his mistakes.
This is Day 3 part 2, not Day 4
That’s a classic blowup.
Top 5 poker moment.
Take note, no need to spend 5 minutes pondering your every move.
To many adds...
Matusow - got 50 Donkeys left….yep 49 and him!
"This is as Brutal as it Gets"...Very Annoying Dude in General
Does Mike know what's coming in his drug case? I think it had already started before this moment.
After watching this, real games are harder to play.
There wasn't as much information about hold'em available at the time this episode took place as there is today.
Raymers all in bets were terrible, Matusows call horrible, but damn were these good times to watch poker 😀
Nobody wanted Raymer to win
Yeah okay buddy 😂
Mike is so coked up in this, it's wild.
Stop spreading rumors. You have no evidence supporting your statement.
And he claimed to drop all that while he’s bouncing all over the table. He’s a piece of work
lol@@monaco8858 he literally wrote about it in his autobiography.
I'm guessing he had already embroiled in the criminal justice system over his drug case. ESPN didn't speak of it because he hadn't yet been convicted?
I miss coked up twitchy Mike
WHY DO YOU KEEP SHOWING THESE !!! OLD !! POKER EVENTS !!
BORING !!!!
That hat gut with blue tshirt on matusow table is the most annoying player I have evet saw. His looks, his voice, his speech and his talking about eveything, how can a person be so annoying... 😅
There's always that guy at the table who has an opinion on everything and makes sure you know what it is.
and notice that he sucks at poker too this is what fish looked like in 2004
Matusow is the definition of cringe
Did he really cry like a little kid. How embarrassing.
Matusow is such an extremely self centered person that it is quite sad
Worst champion ever!!!!!
