Almost all of my videos are created from questions you guys ask. Keep asking them! Leave a comment with what else you want to learn about becoming an airline pilot.
Swayne Martin Have you ever flown into KAZO?
Swayne Martin hey swayne, im a student at Western Michigan University. Im in avition flight science. I missed u when u came to kalamazoo due to some conflicts. I just wanted to ask how useful is it to be a member of a collegiate flight team to
Find a job?
Thanks for the great content!
Swayne Martin how long before you upgrade to captain? Or will you move to a bigger airplane first? Is your next transition gonna be to go into the majors? American?
What are some things I should look for in a flight school? Oh and thank you for being such a inspiration to me, and taking a little bit of mystery out of the avaition field.
What do you want to fly next!
Basically any job in the airline industry, you will not have a normal life.
Pretty much
True even as a ramp agent I worked 7 days a week. 36 minute commute made it tough.
@HorrifiedPilot it can be said both ways
I’m going to respectfully disagree. As A new hire builds seniority, control by bid system is improved. As a young aviator working your 1st jet, you are really in the catbird seat with the coming retirements. My recommendation is if...you love to fly...it’s worth the sacrifice of personal time during the first few years. My situation is lead pilot on a Gulfstream aircraft. I dont have hard days off where I can plan family events in advance. I’m fortunate to have few short notice Callouts. Others in my part of the corporate industry are not so fortunate. Each flight department situation is different. But the aircraft owner I work exclusively for is a pleasant man, pay and benefits are good and I fly to some interesting places. Family is supportive. Always a new challenge, never boring. After 43 years, I still dig it when we close the door and push the start button....:-). More advice since I’m on a roll, eat healthy, stay away from the airport food, get sleep and drink lots of water. Cheers...
Naw fam common misconception this dweeb is just at it for the clout
Have you had to declare an emergency yet in your young career?
Do a day and a life of a regional airline pilot
Hey could you make another day as a airline pilot at Envoy like you did at Mokulele?
Ethan Larribeau yes!!
I truly hope and pray that my eight-year-old son turns out to be as squared away as you are Swayne. What we have watched you accomplish since you started this journey is staggering.Your ambition, drive and desire is amazing. Keep up the great work, your parents must be unbelievably proud of you.
0:36 he was so talking about ORD-MKE / MKE-ORD
I'd like to see a video detailing how/if you get paid when the following happens:
1. Maintenance delay
2. Weather delay
3. Crowded airport delay (long line of planes ahead of you to take off)
4. Cancelled flight due to weather
I'm sure it depends on whether you're in the cockpit or just at the airport waiting, so please answer based on multiple scenarios. I'm curious because as a truck driver, you basically get screwed (no pay if the wheels aren't turning) whether it's in or out of your control. I'm just wondering if it's the same with pilots.
can't speak for pilots, but flight attendants at most US airlines are only paid when the boarding door is closed. Pre-flight, boarding, deplaning, airport sit time (time between flights), and delays while in the airport are not paid. Delays spent in the plane on the tarmac, such as weather delays or sitting in a de-ice/traffic line is paid by the hourly rate. To make up for it, though, most FAs get per diem that is paid per hour spent away from base, red-eye pay (on some airlines), international pay (even from US-Canada or Mexico), as well as extra pay if they are the flight leader (head FA).
Would definitely like more Sit down Videos like this one!! Nice keep it up looking forward to that video you mentioned!!
ItsHenry will do!
Swayne Martin
Also a video idea 💡 Flight school and the challenges you faced and how’d you overcame fight school, that video would also help beginners on what they Will face in the future
Yes,surely looking forward to a vedio on flight school and the process.
Awesome vlog Swayne, thank you for your great answers and thanks to the viewers who asked such great questions!! You are truly paving the way for many of us who are looking to become professional pilots!! Really appreciate your dedication to the aviation community. Thanks again!!
Swayne, you just continue to get better in your video productions. I really look forward to seeing your productions, you always have great B-roll and you have a very good speaking voice. I truly live through you vicariously, as I always wanted to be a pilot, from the 2nd grade! Don't ever look back and keep your head high!
Thanks Swayne! I always enjoy the content. Keep it up.
WHAT A LIFE!!!! Keep having fun! Always love to see your vids, top notch!
Great video. I really do appreciate everything that you do to inform us aspiring pilots! Keep up the great work!
Congratulations Swayne, you really deserve this job. You worked for it hard and have learnt how to adjust to anything very well. We are all extremely proud of you. I have been wanting to be a pilot since I first went on holiday at age 3. I started watching you when I was 9, you encouraged me to do my first flying when I was 10. I’m now 12, and don’t do lessons often and had to stop doing it for about a year and a bit. Im almost at 10 hours. It’s important that you know how much of a positive impact you have on aspiring pilots. Thankyou.
Kindest regards
William
This was especially interesting but I enjoy all of your videos! Keep them coming and I look forward to the O'Hare video as I have flown in and out of there many times as a passenger.
I love how you content and vids are more down to the earth, not just the joy of flying of a jet, but the general view of the profession. Love the 145, really sexy jet.
You are the reason I have always wanted to become a pilot. Keep up the great vids!
You’re an inspiration Swyane. Studying for my private pilot written exam currently.
Another great video Swayne and the inclusion of commenters' questions is another aspect that make these fantastic to watch. Stay safe and cannot wait for the next video! Have a happy holiday!
Mike McCarty thanks mike!
I have been working in the aviation field for about 1.5 yr and watching your videos has helped me to see the in and outs of the business on the operators/pilots view point. Continue your great content and best of luck in the islands.
Its amazing watching you start from Mokulele to Envoy!! Keep up the great work 👍
Flying from Cleveland to Miami in early January on a E-145. Looking forward to seeing if you're in the cockpit!
Another great video, thanks for your time putting these together.
Wow, this was really well produced. Do more videos like these please!!
Really enjoy the videos of the transition to the airlines. I’m time building now for the ATP mins and really enjoy seeing your journey. The more you share and can share the better! Thank you for another great video. I look forward to the Chicago arrival video!
Just ran across one of your BoldMethod articles! Your presence in the aviation community is awesome. Thanks for the video!

Swayne, Thank you so much for the videos, and I love pretty much all of them. they are very professional, educational it benefits me a lot since I am preparing for my Pilt cadet this year.
Nice one Swayne, you’re a true inspiration. Looking forward to your next video!
Very informative! I learned a lot. Great job, Swayne...keep it up!

You are amazing swayne, We look forward for more and more videos on sports, passion flying
LMAO The saying is a trailing link gear is "It makes an average pilot look good and a good pilot look great"..
This was a really cool video, I really wanted to know the answers to most of the questions. Also veeeery excited for the o’hare video👍
Thank you swayne for answering questions that I didn't know nice vid bro
One of the best channels that I subscribe.
Great video. I like that your content is both informative and based on reality.
Your life, with all the variance it offers, boils down to your professional agreement. Passengers rely on you for things they understand like showing up on time, and then 100% implicitly trust you to do everything else that they don't understand and have absolutely no control over. That's a lot of responsibility, and your content can be modeled within any industry. Hears to a vision of more headroom.
You're the best Swayne! Love your videos
Great video to as usual! 👍 Answered good questions and am looking forward to the next video
Can you go step by step on how to be a pilot and maybe how much every step costs ?
Brady LaPLante, You actually don’t really need 1500 hours like most airlines say, if you are experienced enough and they really need pilots, they will take you in with much lower hours.
Brady LaPLante I’m 14 right now, by the time I’m 22 or so when I can start flying will airlines still be in demand?
Brady LaPLante my grades are kinda crap and I’m wondering how I can get into college with my probably 3.1 GPA without taking the Air Force route.
@@gabrieldeollos3290 Hey, you're 14. You have your entire high school life to make good grades. Also note, many schools with aviation programs aren't extremely selective. A 3.1 GPA has a good shot at getting you admitted, the main thing you'll be sacrificing is scholarship money. If college ends up falling through, there are several non-academic programs to get you from beginner to instrument rated in not much time at all. Even with the Air Force route, it's not a super bad idea. Being in the Air Force doesn't mean you're spending your time bombing Iraq with F-16s. It may just mean flying C-130s to different bases. Sure it's super regimented and strict, but it may be a very useful life experience, and you could learn much more than you ever would at your Embry Riddle or UND.
@@EvanAviator wrong, 1500hours is literally the FAA requirement for your ATP certificate
So informative Swayne!
Great job swayne as usual. Young and energetic...keep it up!!
thanks for sharing your experiences
huge fan of your videos!! i’d love to see a day in the life video or more of a vlog style video to see what your day is like while flying!
This guy is great man
I love these sit-down type videos that are more of you talking rather than the usual narration over b-roll
Merry Christmas Swayne and a very happy healthy 2020 to you and all your family and friends. Cheers from CYYB.
Glad to see you enjoying Cincinnati! I live right outside the terminals at CVG and have worked downtown for years. FC games are a blast! Keep up the good work!
great stuff as always
Great video, can't wait for the second video😊
Swayne always becareful Swayne🙏🙇♂🙏.
I’m never going to be an airline pilot but I love watching your videos because as a scared flyer, seeing how routine and basic it is for you helps me to overcome my fears
Great video! I really liked it!
Great video dude
I just enjoy watching the progress of your career and how a pilots life is. The videos are so well done. I enjoy learning about the different planes and can't wait for you to move bigger.I don't fly much and emphasizing safety always makes me feel better. I did fly a 175 to Sitka. Thanks for the videos.
Awesome video!
Flew that 145 for years and instructed in it too. Great airplane! 👍🏻
Thank you for all your work. Best holiday wishes.
Best edited pilot videos on the tube. Ever
Do a flight bag and how to pack for overnight trips. Also on what gear you use! Awesome videos!
You are very well spoken. Keep it up!
I’ll be a Regional pilot in 3 years ! Thanks for sharing your videos
I’d love to see a video on the transition between being a CPL and a 135 pilot. Planning on going straight to the 135s after high school!
You are such a great young man!

Very informative video. Enjoyed!
I live in Chicago and OHare is great when you are in the cabin. Feels flawless and it is amazing how airline pilots do ot
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEOS
Hey great video swayne, can you do some videos on flying and the technical aspects of aviation, for example more flight deck footage and flying.
Thank you for your videos they’re awesome!!👨✈️
I listen to Ohare atc almost two hours a day (I’ve probably heard you!) and they do a fantastic job. I’d like to think I know some of the stuff at the airport. I know when you land 28c you turn right on papa short of golf golf and usually on 28r you take off from 28r November 5, good god I’ve heard that so many times, I bet you have too. Thanks for all your videos I hope one day I can achieve my dream!
Wait hold on....Papa? Golf-golf? Even scientists are better at naming stuff lmao 😂😂😂
@@srivathsan8421 never heard of the NATO phonetic alphabet??
Always enjoy your content and positive presentation. Been following you since your piloting in Hawaii and never disappointed. Question for a future video: How do you get a good sleep when you have a super early start time?
I love O’Hare because of all the action and the architecture
Awesome videos! I have 5.5 years left as a career firefighter/paramedic before retirement from this profession. I will be 39. I often think about becoming a pilot as my second career. I like watching your experiences and tips. Keep them coming.
Thank you! Very informative, it helps having an insider opinion prior to finishing school and looking for jobs. :D
I had to “lol” at your Canada hotel experience. This past March (SNOWY MARCH) I was in Ottawa and the fire alarm went off around 2am. I literally got my coat, my passport, and my rental car keys. I ended up sitting in my car for an hour while the fire department cleared the building. It was miserable.
Swayne, how do you keep your uniform looking so nice? Mine aways looks like crap. I commend you for that. I’ve been in and out of O’Hare hundreds of times. 1. Never stop moving. 2. Don’t hit anything. 3. Don’t touch a runway without permission. 4. Listen really fast and if you can’t read back fast don’t bother. Everything else is gravy.
ORD sounds great. Look forward to it.
Great info! I'd love to hear you breakdown your ATT flight training week by week, and hear what exactly you learn each step of the way and at what pace, how much you fly everyday and doing what kind of "exercises" ! Many thanks
Can you make a video on what you take on a trip? Would be cool to see what you use day in and day out
more of these videos please!
Can you a video on the basics of what's in the flight deck, and what's gets used for what
Swayne: You're "on-a-roll!" Thank you on that.
You should really consider making a in-depth vedio on airline interviews .love your content !
Thanks for the video q&a! Great job. I appreciate you answering the questions especially about eating healthy. Some more ideas: can you do budgeting and being an airline pilot? Example, how may personal hotel stays have you had go buy, Eating out, retirement and 401k contributions, etc. Can you also do one about what EFB student pilots should be using: FlyQ vs Foreflight?
Thanks!
Cool thanks for sharing and information I been looking into this career
I'm so glad to hear that you love Hong Kong !! keep up the good work and would love to meet you someday when you come to visit Hong Kong
Great job
Martin: How pilots eat healthy on layovers.
Me: Chipotle 5x a week 😞.
LOL
Beautiful video captain
Plane Simulation thanks!
@@SwayneMartinPilot So regionals only fly medium or short haul flights so you can be home every night? Unlike flying internationally which puts stress on the family life? Please enlighten me
Your videos are excellent!!!
Here is an idea for a future vide,
The Flight Management System and how a flight plan is entered.
I really love your videos I wish you would post more but I know how tough it is
