  • Back in 1984, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove East on SR-28 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

    This is great.
While the interchange with I-5 was reconstructed a couple years prior to this footage,
It's interesting to see how many places you can turn right off the highway such as at Blandford Drive and just past I-205 where you can turn into the Cascade Park area.
Of course, by the time I was born, the whole section to Camas was a fully divided freeway.
The first traffic light is now the rather complex and confusing Columbia House Blvd. interchange.
The only turnoff left is the one that goes under the railroad tracks directly across from Blandford.
In this video, you can see that it was two way traffic. Today, it's one way for vehicles entering 14 from Columbia Way.
