- ALLEGED CYBERBULLYING: FOUR REMANDED IN PRISON
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered four persons to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, accused of cyber bullying and stalking of one Jesam Michael, the Chief Executive Officer of Afriq Arbitrage, crypto platform. Justice Joyce Abdumalik ordered the remand after the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the accusations. In a lawsuit instituted by the Inspector General of Police, the four persons, Humble Prince Eta, Donald Michael, Fifeyin Awajumo, and Michael Okoh, are accused of using social media platforms Facebook and WhatsApp to send messages under the heading "Jesam Michael Refund Back our Money."
It was alleged that within the period of January to April 2024, the accused repeatedly sent messages threatening bodily harm and death to the CEO of the crypto platform, his staff and family members. The four accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty on a four-count charge bordering on cyberbullying and stalking levelled against them. The trial judge, Joyce Abdulmalik, subsequently adjourned the matter till 13 May for the start of the trial and ordered they be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending determination of their bail application. Meanwhile, just before the lawyers addressed the press, a mIld drama ensued.
