- From 2014-2022 Jose Abreu was one of the most consistent first basemen in baseball never once finishing a season below a 117 OPS+. Then, in 2020 he won one of the most prestigious individual honors in baseball in the MVP award. But flash forward to present day and he posted just a 3 OPS+ in his first 35 games of the season. Resulting in being let go by the Astros despite being owed around 30 million dollars over the next year and a half. So let's look back on his incredible rise to fame, the struggles he had in Houston, and how he will finish his career as one of the best Cuban players in baseball history.

My conclusion is that Jose Abreu is forever a White Sox, so if the White Sox are absolutely terrible so is Abreu.
They should bring him back for nostalgia and leadership.
@@Sammy_Boy_Smithif they bring him back it might just wake them all up again
@@Sammy_Boy_Smith I agree
He was a beast with them!
@@3-0Greenlight fr, he’ll always be one of my favorite White Sox players
I love Jose man. It sucks to see him fall off a cliff like this man.
He probably did a pujols. Lied about age. Explains why these guys fall off so fast. But i dont blame them for lying about their ages to get looked at and given a chance.
@@kenw2225Pujols was ok as he aged though. During his time with the Angels he had a 108 OPS+ and 12.7 WAR over ten seasons, while he managed a 102 OPS+ and 4.6 WAR over seven seasons from age 35 until retirement.
@@kenw2225 don't disrespect Albert. 700 hr club. Best hitter of my generation (the last 25-30 years). Followed by Miggy.
That’s not as good as he should have been though
@@kristopherwilson506yea he wasn’t bad with LA but he was paid like a top tier player and was just an alright hitter that was the problem
Astros fans had real hope in this guy, but in the end he just wasn’t the same. :/ rip
I still thought he had a lot in the tank when he signed...
Abreu was my in my dynasty fantasy team since I picked him up in his rookie season. Had a lot of fun with him and he was key to my season win in his MVP season. I really hope he finds himself again, he's such a fun player to watch.
I hope so too!
Great player and seems to be a great teammate and human. What a great career.
Interesting that he took over first base from his fellow countrymen, Gurriel. Both guys just came here when they were too old, and now passed their prime. Father Time is undefeated
This is a very good video. Keep doing what ur doing!
Appreciate the support :)
He's a multi-millionaire. All in all, he had a successful career.
Were in a rain delay down 3-2, but bookies suggest Guardians will win. -260 for Cleveland.
That's crazy the bookies still say that 😂
WE NEED THE BLUE JAYS TO WIN!!!
I’m a royals fan lol
2024 blue jays moment
Cleveland won 💪
This season blows for us :(
Father time is undefeated.
Thanks for this video. I often wonder about this darker side of sports - what happens when you stop playing well? I can't imagine what the pressure to perform must be like.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great Video, i liked how you ended it on a high.
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed! I love Abreu and I wanted to make sure that people wouldn't leave with a sour taste in their mouths about his story. I'm happy you commented that.
Still love Pito, many great memories with my white sox. Reallt bummed how his astros tenure turned out. #MVPito
I'm sad abt it too :(
Before clicking this video I thought you were talking about Giancarlo Stanton. Man, that dude fell off a cliff.
No, this is always who he was. If he's healthy, you can bank on 30 and 80 at the minimum
LOL. I thought it was going to be George Springer
@@ChristianLeeTri I'm interested in going in depth abt Springer
Every 2020 trophy is Mickey Mouse. Just ask LeBron, Trevor Bauer, and the Dodgers.
It is. But it's still cool to see.
It’s something going on up there. Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada.
All declined after 2021
Sounds like Chi Sox were making sure their players had a balanced breakfast.
From the stream
Legend!!!
He robbed Jose Ramirez of MVP in 2020. For revenge, Jose killed the Chicago white sox organization. As courtesy he waited til Abreu left.
Jram didn’t kill the white Sox, they killed themselves
Jose would've dropped Abreu just like he did Tim Anderson. 😅
Dude chill, Abreu was the better player that year....
Abreu was better lmao
He robbed ramirez? You mean voters robbed ramirez
Some guys lie about their age to get looked at and give a chance. They often fall off quickly at 34-35, but theyre really 37-38. Not for certain though, but it happens with guys from places where forging documents is easier
Maybe in the 90s
@@DERRTYCHYBOit still happens.
Yeah seems reasonable, I mean the guy looks like he's 45.
Could be the case.
I'm almost 50, but bang - bang like I'm 20....I'm not playing. Ya'll better take your Ashwaganda
Im seeing him in Andy Pages now. Exactly
Do one of these on Javier Baez.. As a Cubs fan I can't believe how much he fell apart after leaving the Cubs..
It's pretty crazy! I would be open to making a video. I might wait till the end of the season to see how his overall numbers compare all-time.
He was great on the Mets too. Once he left I was sad but now i am grateful
Father time comes for us all.
White Sox should offer him league minimum for one year, use him limited but you never know and he gets his ten years for mlb retirement purposes
Now do George Springer
I have thought about it!
IN CUBAN THERE IS NOT PROFFESIONAL BASEBALL. CASTRO CANCEL IT IN 1959...
“To understand, we have to go back all the way to when he was born.” 🙄
We really don’t, youtubers.
Ironically when his average went up it was because he could no longer handle the fastball and he was just trying to make contact. Once pitchers figured out that he was couldn’t hurt them really bad anymore, he was done. Why bother throwing curves if he can’t hurt your fastball. Career over.
"Became the Worst Hitter in Baseball.."
"wait till they get a load of me" - George Springer
Nuh uh, ain't no way is my boy George even close to as bad as Abreu
I'd rather hit above .200 than do what Jose Abreu is doing
They aren't even close. I mean, Jose is in AAA.
Abreu has an OPS+ of 3. Three. 100 means average. Springer 64.
haha fair. I think I might make a video to try and dissect the reason why apart from age.
did anyone see the title and think "Baez won an MVP?"
We need to sweep you and keep you on that downward spiral. 6 straight losses in the A.L. beast? You might as well start selling. Btw, we'd take Jose Berrios in Cleveland!
We’d take him in KC!!
Berrios is a beast!
@@BlueCheezy.KC GANG RISE UP
Wasn't there the same video 2 year's earlier, but with Bellinger?
Probably.
I am so glad Houston Astros, my favorite team dumped that waste of money. I felt like he was bringing down the whole team
Ya the Soros have not had good value at the first base position in a few years.
Not the Andrew Heaney home run 😭
Lol
W stream
thank u!
As a HUGE Astros fan, I am really upset that he didn’t meet his expectations, I’m happy he did in the postseason, and I,was lucky to see him hit a home run in 2024
That's cool you got to see a homer from him!
Swinging at strikes helps
Ya he has not commanded the strike zone well
I think there’s a possible reason he has fell off a cliff that maybe some of the younger generation doesn’t know about. It was quite common for South American and Cuban players to lie about their age and have documents faked for them by intermediaries in order to be more appealing to major league teams. One of the reasons back in the day the cardinals didn’t give pujols the contract the angels did. It was reported by mainstream sports writers of the time and of course pujols denied it but I never heard that stuff reported after that contract so maybe an unwritten rule was established. Abrue does look old for his age and doesn’t move very well so he could be 40+. Another reason that rookie campaign was so good maybe ? He was a seasoned veteran?
That could definitely be the case unfortunately.
from da streammmm
Appreciate ya : )
An Astros fan. I’m no more than happy that we removed jose Abreu since he’s removing our teams perfection.
Boy you should see Randy arozerena now compared to last year
I am definitely interested in that. I think I might wait till the season completes to make that video though.
@@3-0Greenlight Richie Palacios is better then arozerena now LOL
At just “16” years old
lol
The most hitter
Thank u for letting me know! I just fixed it!
Most hitter in baseball
Thank you for letting me know! It's fixed now!
Kinda like James bradberry eagles corner. He was all-pro 2022 then one of the worst corners in the league 2023.
It's crazy how much can happen in just a years time.
As an avid Jose Abreu fan, he’s done. It sucks but it’s really obvious
It does suck. He was an awesome player to watch for his career.
This is why you don’t go to the astros kids
Make sure to leave a comment, and I will respond to everyone who posts in at least the first 24 hours!
He's 37
Yup, age is definitely a factor.
I’ve heard that Bagwell was going to pay Abreu the remaining 30 million dollars remaining on his contract. The moral to this is don’t act like a GM when you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.
That's very true.
He got old. The end
Heavier baseballs, duhh, he's a singles hitter..
was he really 25 when he won the MVP??????
No he was 33
25 when he left cuba
What are the chances he lied about his age and is older than he claimed to be
Even officially he is 37.
Could be the case, but we'll never know
I would say almost definitely, his power seemed to drop off considerably about 2 years before others of his caliber.
notice all the empty seats as hits homer after homer.......u don't matter if no one watches or cares
He is lunging on his swing and casting his hands, no wonder he is hitting like shit by his standards.
He got old.
Yup, it's a shame. But happens to all players.
Abreu is old. That's why he's struggling. Next video
Damn even worse than Chris Taylor
he's been bad...
He's not a real MVP winner. The season was 2 months long
Ya that's fair. Definitely Mickey Mouse, but it was still cool to see an underdog get the award.
"How an MVP Winner Became the Worst Hitter in Baseball"
Typical CZcams videos now a days, 80% of the video is not even about the title but the history of the player. If I want to know the guy's history, I go to Wikipedia .
That's fine.
It’s not that deep bud
The yips…
Could be the case!
Because I am sure he lied about his birth date like many other Latin players have done. He is likely 3-4 years older that he is listed
Could be the case.
Sir! I love your videos, but it’s RBI, not RBIs. It’s “Run(s) batted in”. If it’s a single RBI it’s “Run batted in”. If it’s more than one RBI it’s “Runs batted in”. The plural is baked in, they are both RBI.
Oh shut up
Glad you like the vids! I'm pretty sure it is with an apostrophe s. I could be wrong though.

Bro for real? Go touch some grass and hit a baseball once in a while
Its rbiz
You love his videos but the only other comment on this channel is one dogging him for mispronouncing Giancarlo Stanton. Does it make you feel good to point out minor errors people make or something?
I like your Lordys jersey. 🫡
