Is this just a 'first world' problem? Still quite common though. Here is a gadget you never knew you needed - it helps you find the end of the sticky tape when it has got stuck to the roll and you cannot see it!
Battery powered, it first identifies where the end is; a light comes on when it locates the end of the tape. Then use the sharp edge at the front of the gadget in order to free the end of the tape. One of those things you never knew you needed!
Tim then switches his attention to the new banknotes we have here in the UK. New because they now show the face of the new monarch, King Charles III.
There is a trick apparently invented by a French magician in the 1930s, obviously using banknotes of the time. Tim knows the trick works with older UK banknotes that show a portrait of the late Queen. He was wondering if it would work with the new banknotes. Does it? Well, you will need to watch the video to find out!
Probably the only man who can make the King smile these days...

That banknote trick really was...tricky
The Sellotape thingo is, for me the most impressive for it's name; 'Roll Ranger'.. One could imagine it arriving on a plastic horse, clippety-clop, and, tape end found, tipping it's plastic hat with a reassuring "all in a day's work, Sir" and cantering off into a cactus studded sunset..
With regard to the banknote trick, which is great, one feels that in the case of the portraits both of our late Queen and of His Majesty The King, that the expressions of displeasure are somewhat more realistic than the smiles.. I for one have never seen Queen Elizabeth ll look much like that when smiling, but hey! We can use this trick in so many ways. How about creating a sports scene audience diorama? A little tilting mechanism and "Abracadabra!" Universal sadness /elation..

I don’t know if anybody else will bring it up, but I noticed the audio is balanced now and I greatly appreciate this. I’ve noticed it was further to the left for a while now and it was surprisingly bothersome.

Lots of packing tape comes on dispensers with a long plastic tongue meant for the same purpose as the standalone tool you showed.

Tried the bank note trick on the American $1 bill and made George Washington smile. Nice trick!
I always fold a tiny bit of the end of the tape roll under to leave a tab for myself next time. Finding the end was too frustrating for me to wait for someone else's solution.
I solved it myself by getting quite good at making the tab very short.
Every roll of sticky tape I ever bought had a blue bit at the beginning, I've always cut that off and stuck it back on the end again when I'd finished. Granted it turned into a bit of a blob by the end of the reel, but it was quick and easy and worked.

@@cee8mee I cut enough tape off with it so I can stick it to something. And when I lose it I check the usual places first to see where it stuck - face, elbows, seat of my trousers, fridge, tea caddy... 😅

For that rollfinder thingy one should not only show it goes off on the start of the tape, but also never goes off elsewhere; otherwise it is still fairly useless...
Next a tool that can locate where you put away your rollfinder. 😉
2:06 That was a nice gadget. But... My tame struggles are with tape that has torn for the largest part along the length. This makes the to find the edge slanted and not at a right angle. Does it work on that?

How does the roll ranger work? Is it like how an optical mouse detects movement?
So THAT is the bank notes trick my Father did back all those Years ago...when I was a small kid we went into a shop and my Father randomly did that folding trick to show the store clerk...and I always wondered what the trick was...I never asked him or if I did he didn't bother to show it to me. Thank you

It was weird that Tim didn't pull some tape off the roll after the tool found the edge. Very unsatisfying 🤪

The only problem with this is instead of spending 2 minutes finding the edge of the tape, you spend 15 minutes trying to find the edge detector thing...

I run the edge of my thumbnail around the corner of the tape roll. I can usually feel the end of the tape.
