  • Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and with the most excellent SAS Rogue Heroes currently on the television here in the UK, I thought it would be a good time to revisit my SAS desert raiders project that I started a few years ago.
    As gamers and hobbyists, we are prone to seeing inspiration for new projects in many different places and none moreso than in films and television programmes! This has certainly happened with SAS Rogue Heroes and looking at my SAS again.
    These were featured a while back on the channel but with a better set up these days, I thought it would be good to show you what I have completed so far and talk through the bits and pieces that I used to build my SAS.
    I knew that I wanted my SAS sections to look very different, a mix of different weapons, equipment and headgear etc to denote the rag tag look of the SAS in the western desert.
    A lot of the figures are kitbashed to a degree and hopefully the video will provide inspiration and give you some ideas for kitbashing your own SAS.
    If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and consider subscribing to the channel for more gaming goodness!

    I like the variety and flavor the kit bashing brings to the army. More realistic feel of the front lines vs. the training academy look of normal gaming armies. Thanks for sharing your ideas, tips and tricks.

      @OnPointHQ  Před rokem +3

      Hey Simon, I most definitely agree with you on that. For me, kitbashing and seeing what kits work together is still my favourite part of the hobby. Completing an individual figure or unit that nobody else will have is a great feeling and brings a unique twist your projects. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🙂👍

      That's awesome, really glad the video helped you out! I know people have different ways of planning a project but than it can be quite daunting if you're new to the game. Aside from using my books, Easy Army is a really useful site for working out a list using a particular theatre selector and definitely worth checking out. Welcome to the world of Bolt Action and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 😃👍

    Beautiful conversions, I always liked how plastic allow kitbashing your favourite figures, these plastic sprues are a real blessing for modelers, given how the SAS let their men a free choice of equipments and weapons. Pity for the shorts otherwise these minis could be used also for italian/MTO campaign

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před rokem

      Thanks Alessio, that's awesome! Absolutely agree with you, the current range of plastics give you so much opportunity to kitbash and create some really unique looking individuals and squads. I may be the wrong but I believe that my buddy Ken, the Eccentric Man channel, used some of the shorts in his Canadians in Sicily 😁

    Some very nice figures Ste. And the dancing hands are back and extremely well scrubbed. Are there any transfers for the SAS? So what and which manufacturer for the vehicles?

      Thanks Leslie, much appreciated! Transfer wise, I really don't think I've seen any SAS specific ones, definitely something I'll have to look into. For the vehicles there are Warlord, Offensive Miniatures and Rubicon. Or I could take the 3D printed route. Certainly undecided at the moment 😁👍

    Being a complete Newbie to Bolt Action models, have you came across any sets that just don't fit nicely together? I ask because I am looking at building a SAS army myself. Which single sprues would you recommend purchasing?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před rokem

      Hey Tristan, thanks for taking the time to watch and welcome to Bolt Action! I generally find that the older kits don't fit too well as the arms tend to be at slimmer which results in gaps that need filling. For the SAS I'd certainly recommend the USMC and German Grenadier sprues. Both have short sleeves and fit the Commonwealth infantry really well. Often I'll have a look at a sprue online to see what I can use it from it. But for desert SAS, I would certainly recommend sprues from those three kits. Good luck with your own SAS project 🙂👊

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před rokem

      That's awesome, thanks Jamie! I have found that just a small drop of superglue creates a really strong bond between the cork and the plastic without any pinning required. Hope that helps! 😀👍

    Would really appreciate some info as to how you do your cork bases

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey, apologies for the delay in responding. There's a video on my channel that shows how I go about making bases using cork - czcams.com/video/gZlRGHHZLsc/video.htmlsi=Tx__oeknO6ibzRpZ
      Essentially, I use cork board and grit/gravel to make them. For the desert themed ones that I've used for my DAK and SAS, it relies a lot on drybrushing to get that desert effect. Its a really simple process but I think it looks quite effective and adds a different dimension to basing infantry 😃👍

  • @8BitHawlucha
    @8BitHawlucha Před 10 měsíci

    Do you pin those guys to that cork on the base? I am guessing they wont stick to great to just cork. I like that cork look. Works for all kinds of looks.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před 10 měsíci +1

      For attaching plastic figures to the cork bases, I always use a small drop of superglue gel on the feet. This seems to react with the gel and it forms a really strong bond between the glue and the cork. Cork is such a versatile material for basing and works well for a whole variety of different bases. I've used it on desert basing and also more European style themes too. It's easy to work with and really gives the figure a more unique look 😃👍

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  Před rokem

      Thanks Keith, much appreciated! Yeah there has most definitely been a mixed response to the series, that's for sure. I approached it as more of a Commando/Victor comic book perspective with a few artistic licenses thrown in. It certainly seems to have inspired people to dig out or start some SAS projects 😃
