**PLEASE READ** Regarding comments about CZcams Creators are only saying positive things about the tripod because we got it for "free," please watch my video first when you get the chance. I mentioned both PROS and CONS about the tripod and who would benefit from using it. I've also mentioned a couple of expectations to those who are about to make an expensive investment so they won't be surprised by it when they receive it at the end of the year. I seldom blindly recommend camera products on my channel until I've had a decent amount of experience with it. Those who've been a long time subscriber can attest to my long form reviews. And yes, Peak Design supplied this tripod to me for review purposes. While it may seem like it's "free," it does takes a lot of time for us creators to test out the product to make sure it's not a dud and then make a video properly informing our viewers about it. I've even brought this with me on a wedding shoot to get some real world experience with it to formulate better opinions about the tripod. We're not being paid and we're not obligated to make the video. But we enjoy making videos, sharing our excitement about something, and we want the community to enjoy a cool product as well (or to avoid it if it really does suck). Hope this help clear things up!

Seldom does people understand the amount of effort that goes in to a video like this one. Creating a video is so much more than just talking about the product, it's planning, shooting b roll, editing and so much more.
Personally i think it's great that we're able to see the product in videos like these, but i can agree that the price is horrendous on the tripod.

"hurr durr sell out, everyone is a sell out. I'm the purest form of a human being and would never sell out. Let's ignore the fact that even the local McDonald's refused to give me a dollar burger for review purposes as they don't see the value in our collaboration at this point in time. Whatever, I'm not a sell out like these CZcamsrs." Ignore these losers, Jason! The tripod is out of my price range but you've been consistently putting out top quality content. Keep it up! It's important to be objective and truthful but some of the haters will always be singing the same song regardless of how thorough and sincere someone's review is.

Tripod bubble level blocked when camera mounted - check
5 leg sections + flimsy centre column = less stability - check
Included Quickrelease plate for head - requires HEX Tool for plate - check
Gimmicky features / branding for low budget vloggers, F'N Carbon / phone holder (?!) - check
Will be interesting to see how long these last before they start falling apart... Unfortunate to see a lot of CZcamsrs pushing these for $

I had watched this video the first day it was posted and found it very informative, well done Jason. Few minutes ago I watch it again and something cut my ears about getting scratched up. I got the same unit abut three month ago which completely changed my mind about carry tripod most of time when going out for either leisure fun shooting or professional jobs. It replaced my two tripods and my mono pod. I was wondering about the scratch issue and a light goes on in my head when I hear you saying it again in the video but this time.... "gaffer tape!!!" sparked into my head. Something I often need but don't like to carry the entire roll around. I decided to cut the strips at the same length as the first carbon fiber section and put one strip at the inner tube and one strip at the outer tube on each leg and a small strip to cover the latch.... Perfect fit and done in five minutes! Now I get to protect the tripod and have six strips of gaffer tapes with me all the time when traveling with the tripod (who say you can't have the cake and eat it as well!!!). Thanks for the inspiration Jason, keep up the good work!

My kit is Gitzo 1555 + Sirui C10 ball head, it is lighter (1220gram) and shorter folded (35,5 cm), if you ball head is stored separately from the legs, legs diameter is really narrow and unused space reduced. It easily fits in my second smaller carry on bag / bagpack. I do not to store tripod in the PD tight side pocket, If I need tripod at hand, I carry it on strap provided by gitzo. What I really would like to know, if it more immune to vibrations from wind than my kit or not.

I think pd has some quite cool innovations with this tripod, especially with space savings, however, the ball head looks like a mess to me. Having the adjustment ring (the ONLY adjustment option, which seems ludicrous for this price point) right next to the locking lever is an accident waiting to happen, and the design of the head means you have limited movement when your camera is in portrait orientation, and only one of the three slots will ever be on-axis with your lens. Overall, it seems a bit too much form over function for my $$$.

Thanks for the specs Jas, I use the Vanguard Veo 2 264CB (carbon fibre/ball head), got it for $219AUD from ebay a year ago. Weights 1.2kg, min pack length is 403mm, just slightly longer but lighter than the PD tripod. In general its a pretty good travel tripod and the Ballhead fits the Peakdesign (PD) Clutch V3 tripod mount all being straped to my PD 10L Sling bag, super convenient ina nice package. Once you get use to the turn "knobs" its pretty fast to pack and unpack it. I think the latch system in PD, while looks good, I agree has the potential to be weak point and could be accidentally broken in one travels. Other improvement is using D rings screw to tighten the tripod mount are the way to go!! if you ever wanted them tighen them more u can alway improvise with a "screwdriver" instument and wedge it in the D ring and turn. Having no panning is a fail for a "travel" tripod head, they need to be flexible in their applications. Wished the round screw was replace with a trianglar shaped will give more torque. Be awesome of they could incorperate a horizontal/overhead camera setup. I'm a fan of PD gear, but I give this a pass.

Thanks for a more objective review than others I've watched this morning. I did have some questions:
    1) How stable is the center column in wind when raised? I shoot mainly landscape and wonder if that thin center column will vibrate in the wind more than other tripods.
    2) How stable is the center column's up/down movement when raised? In someone else's video he had a bag hanging from the hook for stabilization; he then moved the tripod twice to get it out of the way and it dropped an inch or two each time, no camera mounted. Hoping this is because he just didn't fully secure it, not a design flaw.
    3) How easy would you say it is to twist the small side knob to raise/lower the center column with gloves?
    4) Unrelated - What is the swing out filter holder you're using (1:35, 11:30)? Looks handy!

Welcome back! I have a question - does it work like a leveling ballhead? With the pano happening above the ball, it seems as though it would work that way. That would be a bonus. According to the kickstarter video it looks like you can remove the center column, another plus. As far as price goes, I don’t think I’d pay $599, but the kickstarter price is worth it. Considering the $$$ I’ve paid to replace ball heads on tripods I bought on sale because they seemed like a good deal.

I have the MeFOTO GlobeTrotter carbon fiber tripod, which also includes a monopod, and fits nicely in both my carryon suitcase and camera backpack. It’s 3.7lb, and naturally I’d love it to be less, but it’s steady in wind and it retails for “only” US$350. I generally like Peak Design’s stuff, but I can’t see enough of a benefit to spending $250 more for this tripod. I get that they price as a premium brand, but this doesn’t appear to deliver enough extra to be so much more expensive.

Peter I am no one to talk you out of it but having recently personally experienced this Tripod in person, I have cancelled my pledges, immediately. Unless you will be using this to use it with your smartphone or maybe go pro or something similar, this tripod is literally useless for professional photographers. Its biggest drawback is the limiting capabilities of its head. You will have to use an adaptor and 3rd party ball head to get any sorta productivity out of this tripod. And once you have that ball head on, this tripod wont be compact anymore....so down the drain goes your hard earned moolah that you paid for compactness.
I think this was made with the Smartphone users in mind .

Founder of peak design on tech crunch promo made it seem like he discovered the leg geometry. I have had a tripod flashlight from Home Depot for over 12 years that has the same legs. I love it when entrepreneurs make it seem like they are Tesla. I also love the media blitz of testimonials by CZcams influencers that seems synchronized and glowing and yet they say they are not peak design hacks. Having said this it looks like a great concept and tripod that like many other tripods and camera equipment is waaaayyy over priced.
