I understand the core message that the video is trying to spread here which is to respect your parents and know that they always have our well-being on their minds. However it also shows one of the main problem for most Asian parents especially a father, which is they always want to be tough and strong in front of their children and never talk things through or explain anything. This attitude not only increases the misunderstanding between parents and child, it also causes a rift to form between them over the years as the kids grow up to have their own independent thoughts.

He doesn't drink. He collects cans to sell at the recycling centres. The can his son sees on the dining table has been an isolated one littering in front of his gate that he has picked up on the way home.
That's exactly how my father is. Sometimes I can see the loneliness in him but I just do not know how to talk to him. I'm jealous of my frens that can have good conversation with their dad. But I know I'm lucky to have my dad cause he will always be there whenever I need him.

I'm live in ksa myself, living over sea for my parents work. From what I have heard my parents get higher salary then anybody from Malaysia. So I always thought we would live easy. But in the end my parents are still average people. They do have higher standards but that doesn't mean they spend their money only on vacation, they too have to pay for my sibling school that lives in Malaysia. I live with my younger sister in ksa, while my other 3 siblings are living in Malaysia. But for the fact that the school they go to to is expensive to pay for 3 three of my siblings in a year. My parent truly had suffered a lot. Not knowing on how they suffer, made me think every time I go to the mall, I can buy anything. As a stupid little girl, I should've knew that they were suffering on money. now I'm trying my best to not spend as much as I used to.

Parents will always know what's right. YES sometimes they can make you mad at them but they are not mad at you, everything they do is for us. No matter what we do, we should always be grateful for what God has given us, God has given us a gift, and that gift is our parents and our life. Everything they did was for us. And when they do something wrong to you they will take the blame, love all our parents and respect them forever. (Please note I wrote this myself and I did not copy or steal it)

No parents are not always right. There are plenty of shitty parents out there that abuse their childrens. And sometimes parents just dont know what the right thing is to do (they are normal humans after all). And only because we are related to our parents doesn't mean that we have to love and respect them, because sometimes it just happens that your parent is a bad person and people should't feel obligated to stay in contact with them if that's the case.
I read a story where a father was keeping his daugther in a basement and regulary raped her. Do you still think she should love and respect him? Do you still think that this was a gift from "god"? Or how about all the kids that get sold by their parents for slavery? yeah...

Very heart touching, this is how family support us, when someone are complaining, my family is not supportive.
My dad just passed away two weeks ago. He was a simple man who led a frugal life.
Being the second eldest of his eight other siblings, he had to stop his education at a tender age of eight (equivalent to Primary or Form 2) in order to start finding a job to help raise the 7 younger siblings within the family. Regardless, he still had the privilege to be taught the various fundamental morals and values passed down from our Chinese Heritage. Of which, one of them would definitely be 'Contentment' (aka 知足) and because of that, he would always preach to my elder brother and I about being grateful for what we have in life.
Thank you for this apt video. I'm already missing my 老豆 but his legacy remains very much alive in my heart and that itself has brought me enough courage and perseverance for the road still ahead of me.
If there's anything I've been reminded of from this short film, it'll be that...
'Our lives are already so short and unpredictable. So why waste anymore of it with contempt or envy? Nothing lasts forever so just be grateful for the present.'

It's a very good yet touching story.. I'm 18 now and my dad passed away 2 years ago before my SPM.. He supported me in my education and future.. He teach me how to change an oil filter of a car and how to use a computer.. He is my everything.. When he passed away, I felt empty.. but I know that this is live so I had to move on.. Now I have a job in Singapore and felt good with it.. I just wanna say thank you to my dad for everything that he has done for me.. For the others, Don't give up cause god will always find the best for you..
