- a DIY spray on bed liner on the exterior of a truck plus spray lining the bed itself at home. Showing how to do a spray bed liner from start to finish including prep work.
4-5 Gallons of product were used to do the whole truck.
Air compressor was started at 25 psi then adjusted as needed up/down in pressure to get the correct spray. Each compressor runs different CFM at different pressures so a be-all end-all pressure isn't a thing (For those asking what pressure is used). You basically have to test spray and adjust as needed. Humidity also plays a role.
Products used:
Bed liner (4-5 gallons)

Surface prep spray (1-2 cans)

Spray gun

Painters tape

Cool, a coworker has been talking about doing the same thing to his 91 F150.
I was searching for methods to paint over cured bedliner, clicked on this video because the thumbnail looked like my truck, and then I realized that this is my truck. I had no idea there was a video of the process. Well done man.
Still hold up?
why did the dude key it
That’s funny 😂
@@Room1sixtyfive mine has idk for like a year 🤷🏿♂️ well see
Well it's obvious the guy who sprayed it, doesn't know basic techniques for spraying large objects or detailed work.
You don't stop the spraying in the middle of a section/panel. You go all the way to the end. Otherwise it's likely to leave buildup of thicker material or paint in middle of the section. For even layering.
The fact that at 4:34 the guy spraying it shows off his CCW while painting is my favorite part of being American... 🤣👍
I saw it too hahah
You don't need one in places with freedom see your local laws
Doing a crazy drag truck build and using bedliner for the paint
At first I was like, “why is he slow motioning this?” But then it got sort of hypnotic. Thanks for this video. You guys did a good job.
I've been wanting to do this to my e-bike for the longest.
Beautiful work it’s all about prep work!
This was so bad ass. It makes me want to do it myself rather than paying for it. I spray paint and sand furniture....I just might be up for the challenge.
I feel the same lol
I've always wanted to do this. I had an 83 full size Blazer that I wanted to do in and out this way. Have even considered doing it to my 2007 durango 4x4.
Do it!
Fun to watch! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching
That looks amazing am doing my Nissan Titan in military green kinda like that black too. Thanks for the video
Damn this looks awesome
Same thing happened to me. Same kind of truck and all lol. My rhino line kit will be in today
My dad recently bought an '87? 442 (T-tops etc). Previous owner blacked out the entire car. Tbh, it looks badass. Difference here is he didn't block out Everything. Most of it though
Phucking phenomenal dude! Out phucking standing!
It looks good cuh
wow i love it ...im gonna bedline my entire 2019 chevy malibu
Go for it!
Oh no
I know a dude who did white raptor liner on his civic lol. It also has a greasy hood stack with a flapper.
I saw a Jeep with this and it looks bad ass. Just bought a ford super duty. Going to do that to it!
I have a 2010 KIA SOUL (yeah, I know, not exactly a "TUFF" kind of ride). I bought it new in 2010, and it is def showing its age, with scratches, dings, and fading. I have been thinking about trying to do something like this to it for quite a while! I don't have the means to do it myself, and I don't even know where to begin to look for someone who could do it, and do it right!
Pretty cool,i did my truck in u-pol rapter blue
How much did you use?
Redshard I used the kit with 8 bottles, came with hardner and spray gun, make sure you get the tintable bottles so you can mix color
Nice video thanks
Great Review 👍🏼
Glad you liked it
I plan on doing this to my ford as well
The nicest people always get keyed.
true
I been doing this as well lately it's cheaper and fast then paint.the customers usually choose the bed liner over a new paint job.
Where do you get the colors,?
@@georgecarmona1817 ebay
U think if spray over the paint works good?
@@barbarone5418 you have to scuff the panit a little befor laying down the first bed liner coat
You know this guys a die hard truck man when he decided not to take over the chrome door handles when spraying 😂🥹
In case anyone is interested for a little more money you can get raptor liner brand bed liner that is tintable. You just add some of your choice of color of base coat paint and mix.
Thanks!
What’s the protective emamel for ? Did you mix them
This looks cooler than I thought. I was planning on just doing the rocker panels on my titan but now I think I want to do the entire truck.
Hopefully we get another stimulus check to fund this project lol.
Go for it!
nothing like government paid vehicle mods! lmao
Lmfao 🤣😂
Good stuff dude
Appreciate it
For anyone interested they sell liners that come in certain colors, ive seen black, both Tan and green cammo colors and red. Could be more colors but im not too sure
Durabak and Raptor have many colors to choose from.
I got a question. So I bought the bed liner that you add the color it (white) if I don’t use the white will it just be black ? Or what would it do ?
Thank you sir, great job, what brand name paint you are using?
What's the name of the adhesion promoter and where can I get it? Thanks
Nice
Nice !
I'm doing my Honda xr 400's
How long will this stay on without pealing off etc especially in the winter time up here in Chicago? Would spraying 2 coats of primer help with that ?
So far 4 years going strong on his jeep in ohio winters with ohio salt.
Thanks for the information. The bed liner looks good on that truck. 😎
You bet
I like the variety of content. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
how much liner did it take to do the entire truck?
looks great! whatd you do about inside the door pannels? trim on the bottom inside?
The inside of the doors is still factory paint. The bed liner is just exterior
Do you do one heavy coat with the bedliner? Like obviously not dripping but a thick coat or still multiple thin? And at what stage do you peel the tape off
It was a light coat then building thicker. Peel tape while it’s wet
Use black primer for use less coating material
To tell you that too I don't like it how it look on that truck but I seen all the oldest one and it look pretty cool
Great
Do you have a video of the truck fully completed?
I'm gonna do this to my 2006 Scion TC
love the video what grit sandpaper did he use first to scuff it up??
I did the same thing tonight 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited...
And I use 320 sandpaper
Check out Durabak bedliner. It comes in several colors.
What brand was used for the exterior? Saving up to do this to my 2001 f250 7.3l
Herculiner I believe
How much would be needed? This is awesome and I wanna do it to my off road vw Jetta Ute project lol
Good decision keeping it black. This summer I’m doing my 06 f150
Did you sand the whole truck? Or just put the primer in the Deep scratches N bed linered the truck after
I have a 1984 Chevy Silverado. I am at the point of restoration to possibly paint the exterior or apply a wrap to it. I really like the spray in bedliner look for the exterior of the truck. Can somebody give me a general idea of about how many gallons it takes to do a typical truck and about what the cost would be if you were to have someone do it. Is it is much as a regular paint job. If someone could give me some indication, I would appreciate the input.
Thanks for taking the time to share this.
How much paint/cans of adhesion promoter did this truck take?
Just looking to compare to a 2 door coupe. Much appreciated man.
Believe it or not. I got laughed at doing this to my uncles old beat up Trans Am he gave me back in highschool when the dinosaurs roamed. Well, first I hit it with high heat matte. Then I coated it. Was seeking a stealth look at the time, like the Keatons 80's batmobile. Nearly 30 yrs go by, now ya'll doin like how I do 😂 Go figure 😂 👍😎
Great video but was wondering if clear could go over it just like a regular paint job?
why wouldn’t you mix the paint with the bedliner?
Was wondering what you used to scuff/ prep to get the bed liner to adhere to the surface?
Me too.
I prep/spray bedliner onto maintenance truck bodies for a living and we sand the areas that are going to be sprayed with 80 grit sandpaper after taping off and covering all overspray areas. Just make sure you blow off all dust and debris before you spray.
needs to be sanded with 80 grit first
Cool
If you’re hunting and fishing a lot in the woods, this should help with branches and rocks! How’s it holding up?
So far so good. The bed had a spot where it flaked up, so it got touched up. It happened like the second day so I'm guessing a contaminant got on that specific spot lowering the adhesion.
@@SCAquatics Thanks! I made mistake of using Rustoleum etching primer in spots in my bed prior to spraying Raptorliner. Guess where the only spots that "popped" off, lol. I will never use that stuff again. Was wondering how the Rustoleum bed liner held up, so now I know. Cheers!
Looks great! What pressure was this sprayed to achieve this texture?
25 psi
Its the paint not the air pressure.
How many layers did you do?
Was this the rustoleum bedliner on the exterior as well? Or was it a different brand?
Good question
Raptor bedliner. So far and extremely beyond any other spray in liner. Make sure u get the sand off it, or it'll never leave O.O
So how has the finish faired so far?
Love the Eric church
What psi did you spray the bedliner on with love the texture
60psi
Came out really good. Do you know how many layers or coats are on it? And how much does he charge for that job? This would be great for my Jeep.
I think it was 1800-2k parts n labor. Not sure what it compares to in your area but around here just to get a bed done is 500.00. Not positive on coats (3?). I know the bed is sprayed thicker for more use.
@@SCAquatics I'm in upstate NY in the mountains. My buddy had his jeep done at a shop and he said 3k. We take the jeeps in the mud, it seems like the only problem I can see is after washing the jeeps he can't get all the debris off because of the texture. I think he's just using a garden hose, so maybe a pressure washer will clean off all the debris. If not, I don't want to pay 3k for it to look like crap after getting muddy. In that case, just roll it on and spend $200. Lol thanks for responding back.
@@brianduff4278 Josh who did this job has a jeep that’s coated and it washes off fine.
How much would you say it cost in total excluding labour hours ?
Wow! You have such a nice property! I want land like that sooooo badly. I am saving for my own farm, Lord-willing.
How did you go from smooth paint to the speckled, bumpy style? I have heard that if you coat a truck in DuraMax bedliner, it is basically bulletproof. Any idea if this is true, or how to make it so? I do know if yoy fill your home walls with gravel it'll do the job.
How much bedliner did you use, like 1 gallon would be enough or you used more?
No 1 gallon is not enough. Used around 3 gallons
Just wash it up nice and wipe it down with armor all. I bet it shines beautifully.
My 2006 ML 500 MERCEDES BENZ .. SOON ...was gonna do my 1999 e320 , but I wrecked it , gonna get a new 1 & do it... My friend did it to a old boxy car , relent maybe , cut off the roof & did inside as well , also had 2 desert eagles 50 cal pistols mounted under dash .. BAD AZZ
How many gallon did you need for the whole truck? Doing the same thing in 2 weeks.
i think it was 4, including the bed
looks good!
what size air compressor were you using for this project?
60 gallon I believe it is
I used to do a lot of trucks this way. Been looking at doing a 2001 ford f250 now but all Bedliner sim looking at are tintable. What brand did untouched use. I used to use DuPont Laquita base but not available anymore.
Dadgume auto correct. Untouched is you
What compressor did you use?
I wonder if such a job would “pretty up” my beat up 150. Did you share your friend’s info for referring work?
I didnt share it because hes not taking on side jobs right now unfortunately
question i don't need hardener?
Can somebody tell me what spray he was using at 4:38? I am planning the same project for my truck and I want to make sure to get the steps right
It’s adhesion promoter. Used on plastics
I got a question...
How much duraliner did it take
I’m thinking abt doing this did u mix the bed liner with anything ? Pls respond
no, it was straight bed liner
@@SCAquatics thanks for responding 😂
I think i would have sanded it some more with some corser paper.
Thanks! will try out on the next one
Do you know what adhesion promoters he used???
instead of painting on top of the bed liner he should have just used tinted bed liner that was already the color he wanted (Gray) So it's actually better that he left it black/unpainted.
how many cans /tins /litres do you require to paint the whole car?
4-5 gallons
Wonder if you can clear coat over bedliner to keep the shine?
Why not just mix the color tint and spray it on at whole???
Kudos to you sir for making an excellent video. I had to adjust my volume a couple of times. You may benefit from a sound engineering tutorial if you have the time. You will have a million subs in a few years.
How much gas mileage do you lose if you decide to bed line the body
I’m in South FL. Where you guys located? Maybe I could bring mine by and you guys could paint it for me for a certain price? I’ve had two back surgeries and just can’t do things like that anymore.
Ohio
Wanting to do this with my 1989 suburban just don't know if it's worth it or not
Did yall sand the bed?
Reminds me of the pack a punch camo from cod
Does this guy still do bed liners? Any chance I can contact him for a quote?
Can anyone tell me if this gallon can of rustoleum bedliner he's using can be thinned with reducer / mineral spirits ? Or is the rustoleum a water based liner?
My truck is bedliner and how can I get it to be a darker black color
With the cost of paint and service how much would it be to do
$1500
what size compressor was used or recomended?
He has a 75 gallon compressor. I would recommend one that can supply the CFM of the product recommendations.
