I think this whole situation was because he was stuck in the past of how things worked in the company. That one meeting was how he only saw Nagisa and was letting his pride and greed run the show. It had to take him being in a disastrous situation for him to realize he can't be stuck in the past forever when there are new people to appease.

The problem with this, is that about a tenth of the RomCom Manga Dubs involve "Envy" leading into betrayal of the MC.

The story was good up until they apologized to Nagashima and asked him to come back. While I understand that he would be a great asset to the company, every merchant or business person knows that trust is an invaluable and priceless asset. Nagashima lost that trust when he left the company and took everyone else with him.
First off,the thumbnail reminds me of the kanon's video version. And second, this was relatively tame compared to others as this one had the antagonist show remorse and reflects on everything unlike most videos here but I could be wrong.
