On another shelf if have all of my horror books which are organized by author , another shelf is classics , stand alone fiction. Thanks for this video! I like the order by publisher house idea, and order chronologically by story time period.
    I currently separate my books in a few ways. First I separate my fiction from non fiction (because non fiction only takes a small shelf). Then I separate from read and unread books. Under read books it is random, and under unread it is mostly random but separated by standalones and series. I think I might try the publisher house idea!

    I implement a lot of these methods for my shelf. I separate my TBR and read books. My TBR shelf is organized by color. I separate my read books by age group and genre. Since I can fit two rows of books on my shelf, I put my contemporary YA books in the front row, organized by color. And I have a shelf dedicated to my favorite series.

    One tip for sorting your books faster: use a quick sort algorithm. All books starting with a M or lower on one side and all bigger then M the other side. Repeat with either heap, now choose E and S as pivots. Repeat until you have a lot of heaps, but in alphabetical order. Put back on shelves and give pat on owns back.

Like I would put all the Rick Riordan books next to an author that has a similar voice and pace, as well as story taste. That way if someone read the Rick Riordan series and want to read something similar they could look to where those are shelved and find something of close taste :D

    I just got a bookshelf for Christmas and I don't have enough books to actually organise my bookshelf. However, once I get enough books I wanna organise them the following way:
    → height/weight: light books on top and heavy ones on the bottom
    → series/collection: I mostly read classics and I collect them in different collections, therefore this would work very good.
    → alphabetically: author and within that by title
    This does mean, that I would split books written by the same author, but I keep collections together

    If you do a rainbowshelf.... How do you categorize the books that have multiple colors in the cover/spine?
    For example...
    I have a book and it's yellow and purple but it's about 50% yellow and 50% purple... So i also can't be like.. "oh its more yellow then purple so I will put it in the yellow category"
    Or I have I book with 2 different colors with red on the top and blue on the bottom... But the red is like 30% of the cover en the blue 70%....wil you put it with red because it's the top color or with blue because it's bigger percentage of the cover/spine
    Or I have a book with more then 2 colors and the colors kind of flow/mix together, so there is not one color that stands out.
    I have a lot of this kind of books and I'm not sure what to do with them..
    Ps. Sorry for my English... It's not my first language 😅

    • @happyreading9298
      @happyreading9298  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah, I had that issue with rainbow bookshelf too. I decided to try the books with multiple colors on the spine in different spots and honestly just put them wherever they looked good! And if a book is 70 percent orange and 30 percent green, I put it with the orange. If it’s half and half, I tried both places and picked whichever looked better! Also, some colors are more common in books that others, so the rare colors that had multiple colors would go with whichever color needed more books.
      Set multiple colored spine books to the side and organize your other books first. Add the books with multiple colors in at the end wherever they look best. You can also put them in their own section like you would books with grey, white or black spines. Hope that helps!

    My bookcases have different height shelves so I first organise by height. Then I group series together, then keep authors together (not alphabetised just together), then I put them on my shelves with my faves easiest to reach. Since I started reading manga and graphic novels I do keep them together now too. I'm thinking of separating my non-fiction and fiction books but haven't figured out how that's going to work yet, it's just awkward with the heights being important. I am planning to buy a bigger bookcase soon so maybe I'll do it then. The funny thing is when I write it down it sounds more complicated than it is. But I've always organised my shelves like this so I just basically do it without thinking about it, automatically. Also? Why do people own all the books on their TBRs? Like 50 or more books they haven't read? I just write down the books I want to read and buy them one at a time or maybe a couple at a time, read them and then buy the next ones.

    • @happyreading9298
      @happyreading9298  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like a wonderful system! There’s so many different ways to do it. And hm, probably could say the same thing for owning books you’ve already read - once you’ve read them and if you aren’t going to reread them, why keep those? Because it’s a collection and makes you excited to read! :) everyone has a different system that works for them!

    You seem like a nice person, I would've appreciated though if you would be more focused in what you say when you introduce another way to to organize your shelf.
    "another method to organize your shelf is ... - this is my personal favourite..."
    instead you say "so the next way - I love it so much, I will change my shelf back to that when I'm done with this video ...." makes the viewer a little unpatiently. You could add all these informations *after* you named the method. To me this video would seem a little more organized and I wouldn't have skipped parts.
    You have a great voice, and I'm just a random person on the internet, but perhaps you can make use of my feedback.

      Hahaha thank you for the feedback but I do enjoy making personal, conversational videos and less strict videos - however, it's always good to keep rants to a minimum so I appreciate the constructive criticism!

    There's too much wasted space with those bookshelves. Can't you add at least an extra shelf? I prefer buying the 7ft high DVD/CD Storage units at IKEA. Only 6 inches deep and perfect for paperbacks and most hardcovers.
