This video has:

*Elephant fact 🐘
* Goth's football game strat
* Name joke for the ad
This is a certified Spirit of the Law video
Got here faster than Huskarls are produced !
Must not have Perfusion then.
I, on the other hand, got here as fast as Imp...
Goth here fast as well
You deserve pin from SOTL
I came faster than elite Shotel
Glad SOTL didn’t forget the Goth Game Plan tactic from the old video. (7:52). Thanks SotL!
6:32 We even got an elephant fact from a civ without elephant!
I was a little worried he might not do it, but thankfully he did. He had to.
Truly a classic SOTL moment
We gotta stick with El Plan
I mean it is still in the Intro at 1:07.
Most civs: Lets have a balanced approach to this game
Goths: Barracks go brrrr
I wish I could quadruple down on it, by completely giving up the ability to build Archery ranges, Stables, Monasteries, Universities, any siege other than rams including trebs, remove all non infantry Blacksmith techs, and instead I get to have absolutely every infantry civ bonus and unique tech + Huskarls and the last armour tech, with Fulwarks and Sicilian farms for good measure.
Been like that since AoK, too!
@@KCzz15 That sounds like some AoE3 behavior lmao.
(but seriously, AoE3 has a lot more extreme builds and strats, not necessarily game winning, but certainly fun to mess around with).
@@KCzz15 Goths with eagle warrior will be quite a broken civilization, too OP.
@@skipper472
I don't remember including Eagles in my list there, they're not a civ bonus.
I love that Elephant facts still pop up :)
Hooray for elephant facts!
@@xthetenth
Dude your entire existence is elephant facts.
And I'm here for it.
what was the fact? I must of missed it.
@@markburke1396
It was about tge number of human deaths caused by elephants versus wild boar. In the civ bonus section, relating to the hunting damage bonus that Goth vills get.
GOTH GAME PLAAAAAAN 7:56 GOTH GAME PLAAAAAAAAN. YOU EVEN USED THE SAME ANCIENT VISUAL
Actually think it is a bit updated, I seem to remember the grass on it being far more uniform color
@@GummieI proof is in the pudding. Look at that res.
The same as in the Intro all those years 1:07
He's right that Goth cavalry is underrated. Most notably at Adrianople, where the Roman player was surprised by a Goth knight rush.
You start with goths but don't stick around - we all been there. Being Goth is just a phase.
Not for me. 🤘💀
^yessir
Goths are fun
But in the end, everyone comes back and realises: We are mass goth!
11
True, they become unreliable and unfun to play once you realise that their infantry spam dies to superior infantry civs. 😅
Who needs the stone wall when you have the human wall. lol
Wall of meat. This is where that extra boar meat goes.
Just like the spartans!
Soviet music starting:
@@12kenbutsuri Back in Age of Kings and The Conquerors, the Goths were regularly used as stand-in for a lot of eastern european factions in campaign missions.
Obviously this was before they added the Slavs with The Forgotten Empires Mod-Turned-Expansion.
@@Jeff_the_Hobo Remember when the Burgundians in the Joan of Arc missions were just Franks but in purple?
Genuinely the funniest ad segment. You're one of the few YTers whose ads I don't skip. Good job overhauling that old video.
Sear-It of the Law is something I'd actually check out in grilling season. Give me those boar, sheep, goat, deer, fish, and elephant recipes.
I get hyped for his title pun and this one did not disappoint
TRUE!
x2, I never skip an AD segment from this channel
Please keep updating the civilization overviews. We're never getting enough of that!!!
Lmao sear it of the law caught me off guard
Wait you mean I can't actually buy my favourite CZcamsr's meat? Dream ruined
One of my favorite memories of playing AoE2 was playing Goths as a kid. It was a team game where my teammate had already died and my two friends on the other team were rushing toward my base. It was on Blackforest and I was out of gold, so I was just spamming Halberdiers as quickly as I could. I lost the game but it was a blast as waves of men kept flooding into the battlefield trying to hold the enemy at the chokepoint.
Regardless of how good the civ actually is the Goths will always be one of my favorites.
YES! The goth game plan that we've had in the intro for years makes an appearance!
0:42 Thank you so much for this joke. You have no idea how much I appreciate you for making it.
Had to continue the video on the phone and the version from 8 years ago came up first. I was watching that one unaware it's not this one, thinking "I guess SOTL is feeling nostalgic with the intro on this one.". You definitely had a good mic and production values even back then, only aoc graphics gave it away after a minute 😂
Get ready for Goth game plan
HE INCLUDED THE GOTH GAME PLAN YOOOOOOOOO!!
7:52 I knew you had to use this graphic again! :D
The elephant fact caught me off-guard but in a really good way
6:32 Elephant Fact!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I want the Huskarl Gun. That looks a lot of fun to use lol.
One thing I would have liked to know is how Goth Long Swordsmen in Castle Age do against Knights. Given that regular ones of the former still lose to the latter cost effectively, even with Supplies, I imagine Goth ones still wouldn't do great either or be a soft counter at best, given that they're only 9 resources cheaper than regular ones.
it's better to go with cheaper pikes than cheaper longswords if you're up against knights, or at least mix them in
@@supermelon-senpai8369 Yeah, I know. I was mostly refering to Goth Long Swordsmen as a general purpuse melee unit in Castle Age, which means you pretty much have to compare them to the Knight, at least in terms of raw power, though of course you shouldn't only make Long Swordsmen.
@@erikdw8379 heh, I realized I may have stated the obvious. All I meant is that you're right; longswords would still be cost ineffective when facing knights specifically
@@erikdw8379 longswords are garbage no matter what, they're too slow
Fun(?)fact! Huskarl or Hus - Karl, translates into "House - man" in Swedish (and probably similar in other nordic and germanic languages). In other words "huskarl" rougly translates into "man of the house"
If anarchy would have made it possible to create huskarls from houses that would have been really cool. But I do still belive it is a better idea to have them made in the barracks anyway. Another cool name for that tech instead of anarchy could have been "gå man ur huse" witch is an old saying meaning that everyone goes to participate in something.
Man of the house probably means part of the warband in the jarl or king house
If you look closely, dark age barracks is just a house surrounded by palisade walls
@@kartiksaraf4676 1:50
@@kartiksaraf4676looks like stone and palisade. Fortified palisade wall?!?
I think in gothic it would be
𐌿𐍃𐌲𐌰𐌲𐌲 𐌼𐌰𐌽𐌽𐌰 𐌿𐍃 𐍂𐌰𐌶𐌽𐌰 (usgagg manna us razna)
but that's just a word for word translation I have no idea if the goths had a way of saying that or what exactly "man" means in that sentence
Sear-it of the Law has to be a new best transition-into-sponsor pun
Love the new overviews, keep them up!
Love the militia created at 10:56 . Awesome video as always, can't wait to watch it atleast 10 more times as I usually with all your vids.
Good luck on the Sear-it of the Law side hustle!
that add was brilliant mate
Sear it of the law 11 - you really make your sponsor ads entertaining! Up there with Ryan George's ad-stronaut who is out there in ad space.
We love you sotl!
The most picked civ and highest winrate civ in the first 10 competitive AOE tournaments. Those spams were legendary back then, really miss it.
Quantitative easing joke and visual were probably the best you've added. Bravo!
Been excited for this one!
The bombard access in particular is interesting, as one of the intuitive ways to try to deal with Huskarl pierce armor is the Onager… which bombards massacre. Likewise, they wreck scorpions, which might be handy against, say, Romans (who otherwise don’t rely on archers and thus making Huskarls would be a waste compared to swarming them with halberdiers and champions). Also might have some value in keeping the enemy from quickly trebbing down your barracks to try to stop the Gothic flood; a couple bombards can shut that down, and meanwhile the Gothic Halberdier spam can -wreck- any cavalry trying to deal with the cannons.
Also worthy of note, if you pair the Italians with them (say, Italians as a flank archer rush civ to cover a Goth pocket), they get cheap Condottieri, which can solve that awkward Huskarl vs hand cannon matchup. In general, the Italians have issues with a strong, affordable frontline to cover their many strong but frail ranged units, but the Goths with decent enough cavalry and excellent infantry can fill in nicely. And Italian discounted hand cannons and Genoese crossbows are a strong answer to hostile infantry and cavalry, the two kinds of units most likely to be able to defeat Huskarls. Of course, in turn, both of those are weak to Skirmishers… which get wrecked by Huskarls and Champions.
Goths are actually a very good "Jack of all trades" civ (even if the game doesn't tell you that).
Love hearing the intro again!
The intro is back, YOOOOOOOO!
Finally an updated overview about goths.
honeey!! spirit is lawing agaaain!
sprit gets me every time with the squarespace ad.
Award for the most random fact I ever learned about AOE to this video. That close up of loom @6:42 showed me this is a zoomed in picture of a piece of fabric, not a zoomed out picture of a farm, as I have thought.. well, forever.
Shoutout to all the Goths: Visi, Ostro, and High School.
i love your videos. i have deafening voices that keep me from sleeping, only silenced by a remake of the italians overview
My favorite Civ, love just swarming
Thanks again spirit of the love
Omg I want more GOTH goodness!!!
Ayyyee here we go!
Nice video again SOTL.
By the way, you inspired me to test spreading farms, because I always found it weird that it's well known farms own growth limits the collection rate, and then concluding that you were maxed at around ~24 food/min, instead of finding a way around.
I was a bit disappointed by how much spreading farms (building more than necessary) and having regular turnovers (villagers on a farm are sent to the neighbour unworked on farm from time to time), but you still get sth kinda significant (if you have 30 or 40 villagers in imp, you're going to have around 100 additional food every 10 min because of spreading + turnovers; I guess only spreading will result in only 50 additional food / 10 min.
An alternative is to simply have the farmers make your buildings. This is particularly helpful as Poles.
maybe I misunderstood, but if not I think the question is wouldn't you pay 10 food/min post-imp to not have to deal with this extra micro? Also, the larger upfront farm cost
Damn their original jingle still sends chills down the spine
It's interesting because historically, the Goths had pretty decent Cavalry and even had a pivotal cavalry charge that turned the tide of the Battle of the Catalaunian Fields, a cavalry charge that would later (potentially) inspire the Charge of the Rohirrim in the Battle of Pelennor Fields - even down to the king dying in the cavalry charge.
I’m actually going to start making a website this week so I will be using your referral!!
Love the og song intro
The campaigns made me think of that plus 10 bonus recently, with the fact so many of the original ones are designed with 75 pop in mind. If we go with what percent 85 is over 75, its around 13.3% more space. At 200 pop that would be 226 pop. It would definitely be an interesting change, especially with the recent civ bonuses that reduce the amount of pop space certain units take.
yes, my favourite, my precious
Goths: We existed before the widespread use of gunpowder so why do we get cannons?
AoE2 devs: lol. lmao.
Chinese: we invented gunpowder and gunpowder weapons
AoE2 devs: no hand cannoneers
"Stat bath" is a great term that I'm adding to my vocabulary.
great stuff!
I love all of your videos bcs of you ı started play the age of empires 2 DE ❤❤
I love how you used the same cute elephant picture as always, but used a very sinister fact to disturb us
Our favourite Elephant Fact is back!
One thing about being at Elite Huskarls: while it's true that even 2H Swordsmen are more powerful than E. Huskarls, the time and cost of transitioning should be factored! There are a great many situations where researching Champions for a switch in 4 minutes is not as powerful as 20 more Huskarls within the next 30 seconds, and you have to decide when it's worth it to switch and when you just have to push through with raw numbers.
So do I get this right… perfusion is the passage of bodily fluids… and perfusion is what helps goths create tons of men coming out of the barracks…
What EXACTLY is happening in those Goth barracks behind the scenes? Huh, devs?
Someone pls remind him to do the Japanese civ overview, it's been 8 yrs
2:53 At first I didn't realize it was just the Huskarl's shirt and thought the wrinkles of the sleeve were really messed up arm muscles.
F yeaaaaah!! New SotL video
7:55 yeah I love to see it
Damn I love this intro.
You forgot the mention the laming aspect of Goths! If you random vs Mongols on Arabia it is common to go insta loom and lame a boar or deer for example. On arena again if you random vs turks or something, that bonuis damage for vils vs boar means you can quickly lame a boar from outside their walls.
I used to play Goths a lot for the simple game plan. My biggest weakness was forgetting units other than Huskarls existed. Seriously, totally forgot I had cheap champions and halbs too! Stable and handcannon would never even occur to me till after I lost.
elephant facts are always great Eayster Egg in the VIdeos
I just realised that the tech 'Anarchy' is probably called that because, instead of being elite soldiers trained only at a castle, huskarls can now be trained amongst the common folk and militia. Anarchy is not an analogue for 'random chaos', it's actually a specific political ideology which prefers the dissolution of hierarchy. By installing anarchy into Gothic society, they break down the hierarchy that only allows training of 'elite' units at the socially privileged castles. Neat!
was looking for this comment. AoE2 is one of the few games that I've seen use "anarchy" in a way which makes sense with the political ideology, and it is pretty ingenious how much metaphorical bang they get out of a simple mechanic change.
Glad someone commented this.
This is the first time I've seen automatic captions not turn hand cannoneers into hand canon ears
Dude the Jerome Powell money printer meme for goth infantry might be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen you do.
Hey Spirit of The Law!
Goths here!
Thanks for this. I’ve been practicing with the Goths because they seem simple and focused. Also, I’m pretty low skilled and bad at micro.
I have a thought.
A common drawback regarding unique units is that they can only be trained at a Castle, though there are some exceptions, such as the Viking Longboats and the Spanish Missonaries, and of course the Huscarl here.
The Goths, together with the Huns, have techs to allow the creation of their unique units in the appropriate building, Barracks and Stable respectively.
But what if that became a standard feature for all civs?
Let's say that as soon as you have a Castle in the Castle Age and onward, you can create your unique units both there and at the other matching buildings, though they will still be trained faster in the Castle.
Would any civs benefit from this? Which would benefit the most? And how much might the meta and the like change if it gets that much easier to mass those units?
Time to start pumping.
Taking a quick look at the monks.
yo the intro is back
hey spirit long time fan! I have a minor suggestion for your videos. When doing strength of unit tests (eg. huskarls performance vs champions) you should consider including a generic civ comparison too! What I mean is that, how often are eg. huskarls going to face other goth champions, in like 1 in 43 games or however many civs there are now. So I want to know if the unit that is being highlighted will give me good value trades when I am already going for them or if I need to consider a unit transition if facing a unit, perhaps huskarls trade fine vs generic champs or it might be important to know that without supplies they trade effectively etc. This is a common idea in many of your videos and I think it would add a lot of competitive value to your videos.
Spirit of the la hire!!
You win, you have me looking forward to the squarespace add just to see what dumb pun you come up with next
Basically the Age 2 equivalent of the Zerg. Also the Hydr- Hand Cannoneers are underrated.
Hey Spirit, guys of the law here!
Spirit hi, when you make a video how to good a samurai?
Hey SOTL, what software do you use to make your videos?
Yes! He kept the same old graphic from the original video!
Can you do the updated version of Italians?
The quantitative easing joke was funny as shit.
Goths do well at lower elos for the same reason franks do. A simple direction using a unit that be quickly spawned and is relatively effective.
Are the vills at 4:10 lefthanded, or is the image mirrored?
Should have extended that Squarespace pun a little further and added a "n" at the end. After all, BBQ is something that tends to happen outdoors, but often next to the house.
YO, the intro music is back!
AoE2 needs the logistics tech from rise of rome (50% pop size for infantry) and goth ought trade +10 pop for that for free/or a perecentage rate pop cost
I came faster than huskarls production 😩🔥
Anyone else miss the old Goth intro SotL used? I do.
Suggestion: Can you make a video where you compare a fully upgraded unit against his counter with no upgrades. This situation happens e.g. when you make cavalry with a non cavalry-civ. The question which should be answered: Should I rather build towards my strengths or make counter units?
Goths. When quantity and quality join together with Profusion plus team bonus, Champs, Huskarls, and Halbs. Unleash the horde!
Player: *Gets too close to the Goths*
Goths: "You have alerted the horde!"
Goths taught us how important early rush is.
The moment you see Goths opponent reached Imperial age, your greatest hope is stone walls.
The sponsor caught me off guard lol
