I believe that the most beautiful strategic minds (please, those unknown strategists who deserve this title as well, forgive the ignorance) of AoE2 are Tatoh and TheMax. Watching them play makes me happy and grateful. Great upload, T90.

I would consider free loom an eco upgrade, since the TC can create an extra villager instead... then maybe an earlier than usual feudal age (in which you will have an extra 50 gold of wiggle room).
It depends on your level. Most higher level players don't get Loom when they don't need to, so it may often be saved for feudal or even later depending on the situation. It only really matters if you consistently get loom in early dark age, so for low elo players it can be considered an eco upgrade, but for higher elo players not so much.

I would say the bigger "pseudo eco bonus" for goth is their infantry discount, if you manage to force fights were you trade fairly equal you will probably save more resources per fight.
@@TheRealOnlineAcc when I say "low elo" I mean the people who know the game decently well but just aren't good enough to climb. These are the guys who always get loom early because they don't trust their boar lure, or they don't wanna risk dying to early aggression, etc. High elo players can deal with this and rarely get early loom exactly because its an economic setback when you are in the early stage of dark age. Basically, to most high elo players loom has to be forced, and is not a standard procedure early on. The typical time they get loom, is often at a point where +-1 villager doesn't make as big of an economic difference compared to when you are below 10-15 vils.
Do "Darkness Everything" where unites don't create a sight line and you need to rely on buildings to see.

Mayan 2 Handed Swords do well against Goths for defense. Once randomed Mayans vs Goths in DM and won using 2HS as defense (w/ plumes+Halbs) and raiding with Eagles

You cannot "verse" someone. The word you're mangling is "versus", which means 'against' and is not a verb.

I have been in this situation as mayans 2-3 times. It sucks. The only thing vs mass huskarls is heavy scorpions+ swordsmen but it is SO EXPENSIVE, you need 30 scorpions minimum and still losing it
Never thought I'd see the words "beautiful" and "goths" in the same sentence....
The Mayan player can try to make insane amount of barrack and mass spam helberdiers (economy need to be very strong though) and just try to spam down the huskarl that way. Yes it is a tough battle and certainly favor the Goth, but it is still better than keep using plume archers. Plus, huskarl actually cost quite a bit of gold, so using heldberdiers isn't the worst trade ever.

The fact that cube mods shows soon to be overchopped trees by the small cube size really does makes it unfair imo.

@@michaelgordonsaxophone I did find one way to cheat thr benchmark test. Lower your resolution as far as you can and switch it back to regular after the test. The test score will still be the same

Most high rank players consider it playing too dirty, unsportive. Usual ranked games are full of that though, I get my boars or hunt stolen or killed way too often.
If u lame with your villagers you probably do more damage to yourself.

You need to fix the audio, there's distortion in the sound.
I think eventually there needs to be a standardized layout for tournaments so players can't use different types of mods. Maybe this will be done for AoE 4 but you risk losing the enjoyment in the game if you have grid and cube mods.
I think everybody should use big trees.. Just bcs it looks cool :D Small trees are actually good for walling and doesnt look bad but i dont think game needs some symplifiing i any means.

Is Goths vs Mayans the most unbalanced civ-matchup in AoE? I was always assuming that, but this game did not look that unbalanced
Absolutely not, any archer civs can win against Goths and even win by destroying them in feudal/castle, Mayan in particular can extend that window all the way to Imperial Age thanks to El Dorado. Something that is very one sided is probably Portuguese against Viking in land, they just cannot win anything in land maps.
@@CrnaStrela of course, any civ with an early eco bonus is able to win in early game. in these stages of the game the civs do not theoretically differ from each other as heavily.
The thing is, mayans have no cost-effective answer to huskarls. not even el dorado eagles, because they take bonus damage from huskarls.
portuguese, as i saw them succeeding, have to be played defensively. as long as you do not lose, you come closer to the stage when your opponent is out of gold, while you have feitorias and a lot of powerful gold units. therefore it is important to hit imp first, otherwise your defenses go down to trebuchets. i agree that it is very hard to hit imp before vikings do with their amazing midgame eco. you would probably need to push them successfully with gold-discounted archers and knights, which - I think - is doable.
@@CrnaStrela Portuguese got good army Imo - only really strong option vikings has is berserk/champ arbalest. They tend to have one of strongest castle age eco but not that protuguese dont have answers for it.

Did T90 seriously suggest eagles stand a chance against Huskarls?? 11 first of all eagles have no defense against skarls they get shredded instantly. secondly eagles take 3 times longer to produce BEFORE perfusion (which makes them take 4 or 5 times longer) so unless the mayan player has 50 or 60 barracks, they're worthless.
T90 is right, FU Mayan Eagles and FU Elite Huskarls trade equally, both kill each other in 7 hits. It's not a great counter, but it's still the Mayan players best option. The difference is Huskarls are more food and less gold heavy, and produce faster (13 sec vs. 20 sec before perfusion) , so the advantage is still Goths, but it's absolutely doable to win with Eagles.
@@Gammelmann Yeah, Mayan Eagles after your research El Derado, which is incredibly expensive. What are the stats after perfusion? It's hardly doable. Besides, If you're a Mayan player and invest the 40 plus barracks you need to beat goths, all the Goth play has to do is switch to champs for a bit and game over.
@@Zircillius That's why you mix in plumes as well, to kill the champs. Mayan eco should allow you to get El Dorado, it is almost always picked up if possible and plume+eagles is known as the best combo vs Goths. It is absolutely possible to win with. Of course it's very gold intensive and you have limited time to make it work, but no alternative is great. What other option is there? Two handed swordmen without supplies? Halbs? Full scorpions? At that stage of the game you just have to make do with what you've got.

I still cringe seeing the goths with free loom. I'll never get over what they did to the Aztecs, and free loom for goths is just an extra insult after taking it from the Aztecs.
Exactly right. With so much firepower giving goths free loom is just broken as fuck.
@@kavenram except goths swing wildly from stomping to being stomped the loom upgrade actually makes them more balanced meanwhile the Aztecs economic upgrades make them broken with free loom
