@@itzmeolivia HK's housing issue is caused by an artificial land shortage. The government gets most of its cash from land sales since their tax was once very low (positive non-interventionism). Another thing is that they have massive country parks and the government is criticised by environmentalists when they want to build housing there, even on the fringes of the parks.
Honestly, the root cause of their housing issue is them bowing to pressure. I've lived in both HK and Sg so I know. It's time for HK to ignore what these "environmentalists" say and do what is good for the people. There are many homeless, living in cages, and entire families living in the size of a parking lot.
Now they want to reclaim land off Lantau when they could just build on the parks! Brownfields, they say? Oh, it needs to be decontaminated. And existing structures have to be demolished

Reminds me of another infamous video of bus service 190 that plys between choa chu kang and Orchard area that saw a guy filming so many buses being full that people could not board at all.

    • @Benjamin-wy4dj
      @Benjamin-wy4dj Před rokem +2

@Tang T I wouldn't say it's an immediate knee jerk. Since that video, lot has changed.
Of course, the first immediate response was the deployment of marshals and additional bus services.
But since then we have newer bud service plying the route like 972 which is targeted for the bukit panjang area.
Not forgetting the opening of the Down Town Line in particular.
      These developments defitnely helped alot.
Now orchard has the Thomson line.
For this bus service in the video I think it's really going to come down to the RTS to address this but it's going to take another 2 years.
I not sure if Malaysia's insistence to use their preference of trainsets is a good idea. It's similar to their LRT system in KL which is essentially like the upcoming Jurong Region Line MRT.
If its really bad then I guess it's a shame then.
I think even the TEL as originally intended to have the trains used for the RTS would be full house.

If there is any problem in Singapore, just have to ask around and ask which department is in charge of it and raised the issue with the department. Nowadays it is much easier due to social media. Unfortunately I lived in Queenstown so I am watching this video for the first time, otherwise I would have raised the issue to LTA a long time ago. Until the RTS becomes operational in the next 3 years (i.e., 2024/25/26 and assuming there's no delay), the interim solution is to deploy 2 or 3 double-deckers at one go every 5mins and drop them off at an MRT station for their onward journey. Another issue is to install railing (like those at bus interchanges) so that the passengers can board in an orderly way. Without the railings, I too would fight with these passengers to board any bus that comes. It's survival of the fitness, or should I leave it simply to luck? I wonder if LTA is aware of this issue?

The bus company should arrange special bus service only during the peak hour to ferry the workers to the nearest MRT Station. And, erect barricaded queue lanes for orderly bus boarding. A first world nation with a third world public bus transportation services.

@S C Get real! People who cross the border are usually those who work in sectors where Singaporeans do not wish to take up like F&B (where one have to wake up before dawn and the hours are long, not to mention having to work on weekends) and blue collar jobs. The better paid ones would have rented rooms here. Seriously, are you or your children really willing to take up these jobs? Try being an intern in any of the sector mentioned for 1 month and see if it works.

The whole drop off point outside the checkpoint is badly designed. The drop off point for taxi/PHV/private cars is too close to the bus stop. And the area is too narrow for the crowd it's holding. LTA could have easily solve this by realigning the road so to give more space for the bus stop and car drop off point, considering the plot of land on the opposite is empty now.

The flow of people crossing the causeway especially during the morning peak hours is continuous and they will need to get onto the bus fast or else the bus stop will be very crowded. I think one of the main issue here is there is no metal railings like those found at bus interchange to make people queue for bus, else it will be more orderly.

This kind of human volume need MRT to solve the traffic issues not buses. Too bad both countries will not made it easy for people to travel between them otherwise rentals will be affected. There are always problems involving customs clearance and mrt building completion date.

This bus stop is near the checkpoint. They enter Singapore early before the bus starts operating. These public buses take them to the nearest MRT station which is not even half an hour journey . The interval timing for the next bus(es) is about 10 -15 minutes which can easily clear the crowds. Soon Rapid Transit System which is said to be completed by 2026 may allow people to travel to and fro across the border efficiently.

🥲In an ideal scenario totally stopping foreigners from working in any country is impossible in this world. The best nearest possible thing a nation can do is to decide upon on the hiring ratio in a country with what kinds of jobs and how many positions can be given out for foreigners to do and it is also best if Singapore can do what they do with the Indian labour from India by making foreign job seekers to be bound to a timed work contract and housing them in dormitories. This will made the place more well controlled and less chaotic.
As for Malaysia all I can say is you have all the land and resources to become greater than Singapore but you squander all these natural conditions away which is so sad for your people. Try to improve on your country economy and create better living conditions for your citizens so that they don't have to live like this instead.
