- Ishod Wair's Super Simple Varial Heelflip is actually a combination of two Ishod Wair Techniques that I've covered in previous videos. First is Ishod Wairs Steezy Front Shuv hack and the second is Ishod Wairs secret to easy heelflips. by combing both of these ishod wair techniques I believe doing a varial heelflip will be super simple. Ishod Wair is a beast so shout out to him as well as real skateboards and thrasher magazine and the berrics for the footage I used. Hopefully nobody is bummed I'm using their clips to show Ishod Wair's Super Simple Varial Heelflip.

Bro your progression is crazy. Seeing all your warm up tricks like front heels, popped bigspins, and backside and frontside flips. You've come along way man 🔥 stoked to see your continued progression. You probably got this varial heel already by now huh?
thanks man! V heel is still a work in progress I finished filming that video yesterday morning so I haven't had a chance to go back and clean it up yet
I agree he's gotten a lot more consistent. Definitely helps motivation.
Tip for Varial Heel: I like to focus on keeping my shoulders completely parallel to the board and almost “jumping back” when you do the front shuv. This will help keep the board in front of you and complete the front shuv rotation. Also, focus on flicking out straight like a normal heel flip. That way you are guaranteed solid contact without under rotation. I think of the process as “Pop, flick straight, jump back, land”. This is just what works for me. I hope this helps!
Does the shoulder thing work for hardflips?
Also side note: the jump back and keeping your shoulders parallel worked for me, thank you!
There's no way I could ever do it by flicking straight out like a heelflip. 😳 it would make me 100% get zero contact every time and I would end up doing a frontshuv. Props to you, everyone since everyone has their own positions and style. 👏
I learned them with johnny gigers advice on laser heelflips, but I converted his advice to varial heelflips, I flick my foot in the same direction I would flick my foot for a kickflip, I'm regular, so I flick my foot towards the direction of the left pocket of the nose. By the time the I actually flick, the front shuv has started, and my heel is flicking the right pocket of the nose, even though I aimed it at the left pocket. This helps me get that guaranteed contact. But I know not everyone does them this way either. I have weird regular heelflips, I cannot hang my toes off, if I do, I'll miss the flick, and the board will pop straight up to my nuts, but I hang them off for varial heels. I kickflip and heelflip from virtually the same exact foot position. I definitely dont have proper heelflips, since I flick my heelflips with my toes, instead of my heel, but I do flip my varial heels with my heel.
That's wild that you flick straight like a heelflip to varial heelflip. 🤯 keep skating forever til you're too old brody. 🤙
I actually point my front foot in the other direction for v heels. It creates a tension that causes a quick rotation. I struggled with the trick but once I tried with my foot angled with my toe toward the tail, I started landing them.
you mean more pointed towards the tail side then the nose? i do the same for my reg heelflips as well.
I love how all these tricks are “super easily with this hack “ but Local Joe doesn’t Land them correctly. Pretty funny, still great content though man just had to poke some fun at ya Joe 😂
If I landed them perfect then you’d know I was faking it cuz that’s not how learning works
@@localjoe That’s True!!! That’s why people mess with you cause you’re relatable
@@localjoe you should do follow up videos to show your improvement
Joe was super close. The back foot has to pop and scoop a little harder, and the trick is there. Nice vid
Props man! people really dont understand how hard it is trying to learn these intermediate/advanced tricks when your 25+years old 😂 keep it up man this type of stuff motivates me to keep going hard everday.
my tip to v heel is put more weight to the front foot, more than ollie or kickflip stance. and do a vertical pop to the board, about 10~15degree off, was confused by the "flat" fs shove motion for so long. and put some tension through the board before pop. hope it helps
Yo how do you put tension through the board?
@@Dave0Star It's kinda another way of saying weight distribution, when your are bending your knees about to pop put some tension or weight on your toes.
@@ca_ja25 I get ya, nice one thanks ✌️
I feel like the ishod tips are always the most useful. Learned how to never land primo from any shove stance cause of the frontside shove position he uses.
bruhh i literally just started trying varial heelflips. and i see this video. the timing couldnt have been better thanks for posting this. imma get out there and figure it out
I watch a new trick hack almost every time before I go skate, it makes it so much easier to figure out new stuff, I got so close to front crooks last sesh after watching that video, bout to go try some V-heel$! Thanks Joe!
Yoo the progression is hardddd🔥🔥keep it up
thanks man I'm trying!
The key is always momentum its harder to get any trick around going slow taking one solid push before you do your flat ground tricks
Yeah that's why sometimes it's easier to learn tricks going fakie first. That's how I learned fs flips and bs heels. Well actually fakie is the only way I can bs heel but I now have fs flips in both stances lol.
I love Ishod Wair. He's my favourite skater. Thank you very much for making this video
It’s all about foot position , front foot back more than on regular heel flip and the back foot kicking toe side to get the board to rotate frontside ..
One trick I could never land for some reason but you got those on lock if you keep your shoulders parallel and bend your knees more before popping.
For me what worked was similar to my varial flips. Pop straight not trying to shove almost and lead the rotation with the front foot, like when you try them vertical it makes it easier because the most back foot scoop the less vertical it makes them.
Yo, one thing that Ishod does that really helps me, and you didnt mention in your video is that he has his foot halfway off of the board ; only his heel is on the board. This ensure that u make very little contact with the board and makes the fs shuv happen quicker. I see in your attempts that u 'block' the board from rotating frontside because ur front foot is making too much contact with the board. All u need is that little nudge
Good eye gonna try this
You should watch ahead and put your front shoulder more right side if it makes sense 😁
haha it makes complete sense been thinking that all day
Thanks LJ, happy belated Friday!
Everyday is Friday!
Set up heelflip on front foot, you almost want to pressure kick out with the back foot kinda like scoop kick hard to explain over text but this trick is totally doable for you, we almost skate the same way and have the same body type so I know you can variel heel
You need to make sure to jump on top of the board, not forward not backwards, on top. Point 1, what works for me is to try to make the varial heel go in front of me, I don't know how to properly explain it, first time doing it in english haha also, and last thing, you're not making your right foot as Ishod, you need to make sure to extend the kick of the heelflip more for it to turn completely. I can probably help but english is not my first language hahaha sorry but I remember Varials are my thing because I learn them without help so I think I can help, let me know.
(I just saw one of the comments about being parallel to your board, this almost works for every trick, once you learn it, you can play with your body position and work on the style, landing it bolts, etc, but to learn almost every time it works to be parallel to your board)
Yoo that twist is sick
v heel's are one of my goto's, try having just the ball of your front foot on the skatebaord and angle your backfoot toward the front
I got nightmares from this trick Thank you🙏
Good stuff. I wouldn't say Ishod doesn't have the greatest looking varials, though, Tom Rohrer 's are a thing of beauty and he has a pretty great tutorial. 👍
Fair enough!
Nice progession joee!! nice content and very helpful tricktips video's.keep up the nice job broo
Thanke you
Try 90° front heel, that may help adjust your rotation problem.
Have your chest facing forward. Use your back foot to push the board in front of you like Ishod’s front shuv. Works every time.
Yo your fs heels are really good for me that's the best way to do this trick on flat
Big up to the flat ground progression dude 🙌
Definitely go faster and give yourself time to get comfortable before you pop. Going faster may be intimidating but it will make the tricks easier just follow through I think you got the idea
I can do those but on here to give you a helpful tip. You need more speed and you need to swoop the board more with your back foot. It's like throwing a hard kick to get the variel heels to do the full rotation. More speed will help a bunch tho
I legit think you only problem is not popping things high enough. I know it's easier said than done but there are hacks to getting your shit to pop higher. The board tends to follow your feet so if you can't jump higher vertically you can always bring the height of everything up by bending your knees. If you watch a lot of these pros who pop their shit you'll notice that they're not just trying to do a 50 inch vertical but they're pulling their knees up to their chest. I think if you were able to just learn how to pop your tricks a little bit higher by pulling those knees up you'd have a lot more success.
It almost looks like his front foot is doing an inward heel motion, never noticed the kick go that direction, deceptive. Going to try to get these better and more consistent for sure.
You got that on a bank!
Thanks for the video! also what is the name of the track/instrumental?
good shit bro
I'd love to see you learn full cab flip
Love this trick, congrats on landing some man!
could you do ishod wair kick flips plss
Yeahh bro
I like to think of varial heel/ flip like the way you flick the controller in skate games Ik it’s weird but it works for me Lmaoo 😆😵💫
Thats building 98C at CPP….
Crazy cuz i go there…..
I ve been watching u for a while now, really like your content and the progression u got.Try to work on your speed with the tricks, i think it might help u get more and more comfortable and help u land tricks easily.Thats all man,im really happy to be one of ur subscribers.Peace from greece
lovin the vids bro, keep em comin 👍
I can't believe the hold that Nike has got in our community -
If you’d like I can give you A tip on it. I’m extremely consistent at v heels
Try to scoop it forward that way it will always be under your front foot
Dude I was literally looking this trick up yesterday and then you came out with this. I can land them like 2/10 times but I'm trying to figure out if there's a way either with how my feet are positioned or how I'm balanced over the board to get them more consistently. I saw a Jonny Giger tip where he kind throws his weight back as he pops so the board stays under him, and I'm going to try combining that with your tips here and see how it goes. Unfortunately it's been raining balls lately so I'll have to wait a couple days to skate.
Varial heels were really pissing me off until I realized I wasn’t flicking correctly, or at the right time. Now I bend my ankle in/out immediately and it’s flipping consistently.
Anyone have any tips for getting a more vertical pop? Like:
-bushings
-Trucks
i mean. high trucks i guess. But its not the equipment. Just put your front foot further back to allow your board to go more vertical
Bro put that back foot righttt in the bottom pocket of the board a little more and keep your front foot a little further back trust me👌
I didnt realise it but my front suvs are just like ishods i can hit a pyramid at speed pob a front shuv at over hip height then catch it fromt foot stomp it all the way over the pyramid to flat.
My varial heels arent as sick coz i dont really do them, but a find a lot of front shuv as the heelfip kinda takes some pop out your shuv so the foot position needs to be even more aggressive on th bottom pocket with your back foot so you get a real string shuv probably stringer than youd think then having ghe front foot sorta mid board toes handing off more than on his heal (you dont wanna flice with your toe) just kick the board rught after you pop as it starts to shuv by flicking basically straught forward only slightly forwadd a bit and flick with your heep, as in actually kick, dont flick like a regular ishos heel, may help you i hope it does👊🎯
N yeah fuck spell check I just bunned a J don't come grammar check me guys 🤣 y'all know what I said🥇
heelflip sex change was lit
Try it up a euro gap. Makes it easier to see what you’re doing
Does knowing heelflips help out with varial heels? Absolutely. But it’s not the same motion, at least I don’t slide it all the way up like regular heels, same goes with varial kickflips, as soon as you pop the shuv you just flick it. It’s all about the shuv it, at least for me
You need to have a son so you can teach him how to skate like a pro as soon as he starts walking
Hahaha I do have a son and he is a pro
Varial heels are one of my biggest board breaker tricks. I can flick it out good but I land it either too far forward or backward, resulting in snapping my tail or nose. I love how this trick feels when I get one but I hear my wallet yelling at me when I try it.
Point your head in the direction of the nose so that your shoulders stay open front side. Also this trick isn’t as simple as heel flip + fs shuv. You also have to put pressure on the toes of your flicking foot and it works better if you go faster
Bruh save those shoessssss
Name dropper
the most important thing with this trick is to lean back
first comment...good content man..you deserve more subs
I think you got it as long as you don’t turn your shoulders backside.
Yeah my back arm/shoulder needs to stay in front of me more.
Do kader fs kickflip
For me the front foot isn’t that important if you put your foot in the pocket it will do the front shuv then you just do a easy heel it will spin and flick
bro is a local joe or somethin idk
You should do a video reacting to the gifted hater streams about you
send me a link i guess I haven't seen them
I've never learned varial heels
Try them they are so fun to do
Black dudes have a better heel and switch heel than everyone else thanks to Stevie Williams
You’re like the guy who thought it was okay to come up to me and say wow all black guys are good at nollie tricks, don’t be that guy
@@salahsyoutube you ain't black
Learn switch tricks and help us
It's the same technique just switch
Need to go faster for sure
It looks like you are bending more from your back than you knees and ankles. Stretch those legs. There are a bunch of good leg stretch videos on yt if you search for learn how to dunk or something similar
You talk a lot about foot placement and where the flick goes in your vids, which is definitely a big component, but I think it is equally if not more important to talk about weight distribution/transfer. This is of course harder to ascertain from footage because filming angles can distort things, however if you draw vertical lines it’s possible to observe these details. Varial heel is a front foot dominant trick; like most of the shuv family. Put too much body weight on the rear foot and it goes way out of control, in my experience.
Bro wtf, you can do perfect frontside heelflips but you're struggling with the varial heel
i think you land sideways cause you try to catch it sideways
Pop harder
I think hardflip wil be easier for you
do you only care about 5 skaters?
MAYBE try to actually jump higher with your skateboard
None of em count. Go faster, ur practically standing still
Where's your footage?
bro youre frontside flips are like kickflips with a powerslide! do better
hate this trick
