Nice analysis nice reaction! Whole album is constructed to imitate Orthodox liturgy, their live performances are like mess... and that actually wasn't russian it was Old Church Slavonic, this is dead language from more than 1000 years. It is preserved only in books and Orthodox Liturgy. Definitely check whole album it's just perfect as whole.

From my understanding the record isn't in Old Church Slavonic but rather the more modern Church Slavonic (which I believe is still used by orthodox churches today). From what I can gather it'd still probably be old fashioned language to modern slavic speakers but nonetheless it doesn't seem to fit with the Old Church Slavonic language.

This is I think is a good translation of the lyrics that I found:
    Yekteniya IV (Litany IV: Mercy)
    I am the Master,
[I] will accept even from the mouth of you sinners
    And having visited my Creator,
I will forgive you all your transgressions,
    Voluntary and involuntary,
And sanctify your souls and bodies.
Holy Immortal, I will have mercy on you.
I, the Master, blessed this hour,
And unto Me you send up glory,
    Now and ever,
And unto the ages of ages, amen!
Holy Immortal, I will have mercy on you.
Let your soul praise, me, your Lord,
For I am blessed, O Lord.
Let your soul praise, me, your Lord,
    With all your inmost being.
For My name is most honest and magnificent.
Let your soul praise, me, your Lord,
And forget not all my benefits.
    Glory now
And ever, and unto the ages
    Of ages, amen.
I am the Holy, I will have mercy on you.

I will have mercy on you unto the all ages of ages.

The band is strictly orthodox. Derph basically says the old church is darker than being cliche and using satanic imagery. He learned the old Church Slavonic language and all lyrics are in said language. The lyrics are basically stories from the Bible. Derph started the band and hired Bart to sing. When the album blew up Bart was ready for another. Derph said it wasn’t time so Bart when behind his back and stole the band. He now performs in a watered down version. While still good, nothing close. He just uses bible verses word for word in the lyrics now.

Pretty sure it's Russian. The robed figures appear to have thrown the famous icon Our Lady of Vladimir into the water. That would be a very blasphemous act in Russia. Savage imagery near the end. I dug the reddish-gold tint of the video, which gave it a nightmarish quality. Disturbing but compelling, with hellish Black Metal instrumentals. Very powerful. I think you should be a relatable nihilist, you know, sort of believing in nothing but doing so in a kind of nice, suburban manner. ("Hey Bob! Did you know life is meaningless? How's the wife? Not that it matters.") RECS! An EP by a South African band called Hellcats has caught my attention. If you like ancient music, the HQ studio version of "White Room" by Cream packs a punch.

The fact that any references to god are in first person, as if you're equal to god or are god himself, would also be blasphemous?
Someone said in another comment section that one of the main ideas behind the album was to show that the antichrist could usurp the church for his own nefarious purposes and people would be none the wiser.

Russian orthodoxian church doesnt show any truth, real cruelty from bible. it just exists for cash, doesnt pay taxes. The beheading of John the Baptist, Pilate's court in the end, the wearings of schema monks, myrrh streaming, putting an icon on water stream - none of this is blasphemous, neither anti-christian. Skulls is part of schema monks's mantles. IDK about the upside-down crosses, maybe it's black metal attribute, or cross of St. Peter.

@@lebababouille9224 Hell yeah! I'd love to set you up with a starters kit. What kind of stuff do you like now? Might give me a better idea on what bands would be the best transition.
Edit: Just generally, I find that people are way more open to atmospheric black metal - it's not nearly as abrasive as the trve kvlt stuff and I find it to be very chill. It's been my constant background music as I do work. I'd recommend checking out WWilderness' album Devour the Sun. That's a great start. As far as more traditional black metal goes, I'd say listen to Dark Funeral's latest album Where Shadows Forever Reign. It's evil and crushing but the production is stellar and the vocalist is great at enunciating the lyrics so you can actually understand them. Also, Dawn of Ashes album Theophany is a decent bridge between black metal and extreme metal if I recall.

    • @komulautre3811
      @komulautre3811 Před 5 lety +1

I'm no Juniio, but theres a few rules in black metal, ok so if it's got monochrome trees, the chances of the album being good will increase by about 100%. If the cover is blue, the chances of it being good are doubled. Look at Cradle of Filth! Their '94 and '97 albums are great after those they stopped being as good (except maybe Midian). Obviously it's because both album covers are blue? Old Buildings such as castles and churches are a good sign as well. In all seriousness just go listen to Emperor's first two albums, and seeing that you're into Meshuggah perhaps you would like something proggy and chuggy, so Enslaved's Mardraum might be your thing.
