Hi and thanks for tuning in! Our CZcams channel was recently switched to a brand account from a personal one and some past comments were lost as a result. Please ask any questions you have and we’ll get to them as quickly as possible, thanks again for watching and please don’t forget to hit like, subscribe, and enjoy!
Team O'Neil Rally School I am interested in going to team O’Neail and becoming a Legend in driving
I like to keep my body folded at a 30° angle, really keeps me feeling connected with the windshield.
30? Nah too little, I found 15 to be the ideal angle
I'm 6'7" tall. It's always the same for me... seat all the way back and down, and wheel all the way up and out. If I'm lucky, there's maybe enough room for me to drive the car. LOL!
6'2'' and driving is mostly hell for me, can't even imagine what it would feel for you
5'1" with short legs, I'm in a completely opposite hell.
Have to get so close to the wheel so I don't stretch my legs too much.
On the bright side I can drive kei cars pretty easy
I know your pain, I'm 1m95(don't know huw much feet that is), and indeed, it is always the same... When I drive my sisters Citroen C3, it is all the way back, all the way down, and I'm still cramped in it... But whatever car I drive, if I need to take passengers, well, it is impossible te take more than 2 :p
Nigel White got the same height. Fiesta works fine for me and i also have a lot of leg room in the mini cooper s (2006)
Even though I'm "only" 6' driving my Lotus Elise is needlessly difficult, the seat has so little adjustment that I had to buy a racing seat which is only marginally better and I bought a removable wheel that puts it about 1.5" back from stock which helps but not a lot, which sucks but gladly I've got a GL63 with huge adjustability in seat and wheel so it makes it very easy.
I've been driving with these techniques since taking anti-slip driving courses in Europe and this is exactly what they say. But in Dutch. Wish I could afford to take more of these driving/ racing classes and wish that drivers ed would integrate some of the skills that Team O'Neil does. Our roads would be much safer
You guys are awesome and need more views and subs. Finding the proper seat not only made it easier to heel and toe for me, it also keeps my back straight and is actually quiet comfortable. I wish you guys had a school in Toronto.
I love this guy!
Was watching another video and the gentleman basically made these exact points. I adjusted my seat in my Mazda 6 and WOW what a difference! I've never felt more connected to my Mazda! And thankfully Mazda redesigned the seats for my 2018 and made them badass and comfortable. I'll be driving like this from now on! Excellent seating position for engagement and feeling connected to the road!
the gripe I always try to play around with is my lower back support plus seating angle of the back. With the constant clutching in the city driving, my lower back can kill at times, but I feel like part of it is seating position. Haven't nailed it yet.
I adjust 30 times daily
You are one of only a few professional drivers I trust 100%.
Great instructions, presented without a pause, shows command on subject.
Great video again! But what made me wonder while I'm watched it, that focus on the left, with the BP livery. Is that a real ex-works M-Sport WRC?
Many thanks for your channel!!! It's very informative and useful!!!
Info for real racers! Love all these vids!
If you guys think seating is not important, IT IS!!! I recently had a sear sitting on platform unbolted, and the confidence it takes away is unreal. Just bolting it down probably raised my cornering speed 20mph lol. It's my daily but I think it is pretty important for anyone to have a seat the locks you in. Side supports also made a huge difference... Try to make a seat that makes you feel like your welded to the car and you will get very fast and responsive. not to mention SAFE!
I’ve learned so much from you guys
Thanks for usefully tips!
What's up Team O'Neil? I'm a 20 year old kid looking to get into rallying. I just want to thank you guys for all the information you provide here on your CZcams channel. It's really helpful and much appreciated!! Thank you very much! Also, for anyone who might be reading this, what are your thoughts on picking up a used 350z to use for entry level Rallycross and maybe some stage rallies when after I gain some experience?
Thanks Brendan! A used 350z would be a great choice, solid performer that could also do track, drift, hillclimb, autocross... You'd have a lot of options to take the car out and have some fun. Our only recommendation is to just take a close look at the suspension choices that are available for rally applications... We aren't experts with that suspension but I know it doesn't have a lot of travel stock, also for rally you're going to want to raise the car an inch (or two or three even maybe) and not sure how exactly you're going to do that. Someone has figured it out and you'll find the info if you look for it, hopefully there's an affordable bolt-in solution!
Thank you Team O´Neil Rally School, very cool.
Good stuff - Many thanks.
Thank u, helped alot
I’m 6 maybe 6ft 1 and just found a perfect position in my s3 after months of ownership. Always used to sit low and pull the wheel out and down but it the wheel felt a little far. Now I raised the rear of the seat cushion up a few inches and the seat back to a pretty upward position and find it’s perfect.... never had this problem in my e90 335 coupe or my Infiniti g35 coupe in the past.
Hey, thanks!
What do you do qhen you have a long torso and medium legs? .y head is always just under the rooflining when all the way down with good grip on the wheel
i believe everyone into performance /track driving should drive on the street in the same position for training purposes.
You won't be used to it if you drive 95% of the time on the street in a different driving position compared to when you are on the track. '
Therefore, the seating position should be comfortable enough where if you do endurance racing you have no problems with. You are able to utilize all the pedals with still a bent at the knee when the pedals are fully depressed. The headrest/seatback is also set to where you are able to wear a helmet comfortably without the seat upsetting your position due to the headrest pushing against the helmet.
Important tips :)
I was wondering my weight seems to be back instead of forward is untentional is there anything I can do to correct this.
When I drive I like to have my back to the steering wheel
You too? I thought I was the only one
the superior driving position
help me got my seat right in my e92 335i had it since last may ha ha 11 months only thing i didnt try is the bottom tilt...having a vr4 tt (gto) my seat right in that car was a natural gangster lean because of the small cockpit just didnt work in the beemer for me lol
everybody says I sit too close to the steering wheel. according to this, my seat position is actually perfect
plus, I deleted my power steering
My seat is at the topmost position in height, but with an almost vertical back of the seat
wtf
What seat does he have?
what wheels are those
Those are 15" OZ Racing rally wheels.
"Get zen with it..." Yes.
I don't know if anyone can help with any suggestions but, I have a '88 e30 with the sport seats which have quite big bolsters. when I steer, these bolsters kind of get in the way and make some turns akward.
ma - scalia Can you adjust them at all? If you can you should probably soften them so they hold you in place but don't feel awkward
ma - scalia in a lot of cars you can do a "foamectomy". Basically opening up the seat (hopefully your seat has a zipper!) and removing some of the foam from the bolsters. You can also use this technique with spray adhesive to add support to other locations like lumbar support.
And here my friends are always picking fun of me because I'm 6'2 and sit closer to my controls than them short bastards!
Same height same approach.
I'm 6'3 and have to sit in the backseat. That extra inch will get ya.
All the womens out there should watch this before driving! :D Most of the time they're as close as they can from the wheel. If they ever crash they could even get killed by the airbag because most of them don't even let enough space to let it out proprely. Same for older most older people.
Very informative but long winded. If more succinct could cut the length of this video in half with the same info
First!! I keep my seat in full race position.
No gangster leans bros
On the right
Your watch is loose
He's keeping it at the 9 and 3 position.
When I drive I like my shaft hanging out the window
The tire is bald after filming this video
I often see people sitting too low in day to day driving,, especially Golf drivers. :) Not only it is dangerous but the center of gravity of the car is usually much higher than where they are located so it does not feel sporty at all contrary to what they believe. Some of the best racing drivers sat high(er), so really no need to sacrifice visibility for cool (really stupid) look.
Show the Italian seating position from the '80s! No touching the floor!
This all wrong you want your seat leaned all the way back and only one arm on the steering wheel while blasting some gangsta rap with all the windows rolled down
So title should be "optimal seating position for PERFORMANCE driving", since it's all you talk about.
Is there another kind?
Anybody got a TL;DW??
Yes - Buy bucket seat instead of OEM recliner
The 1 dislike is from a Civic driver!
What do Civic drivers have to do with anything?
You probably have a honda too
Can't diss the Kanjo
Way too much of your waffle on here ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
