      Hey Sped,
      I was wondering if you could do an updated video on your recording setup? I would love to start recording some covers myself and your covers are the best on youtube (in my humble opinion ofcourse :p)

    Reading through the comments, I think everyone else said what I was thinking on this one. As much as it may get tiresome doing lesson videos on 50-year old songs, I can tell you we all greatly appreciate it!! Thanks Sped, and 'hey' to Gab. To quote yourself, everyone needs a Gab.

    Hi Sped, the whole song is such genius, possibly Zep at their best? JPJs bass underpinning Bonhams fills and transition or whatever drummers call them, Plants down and dirty vocals and then Jimmy. Possibly, possibly my favourite Zeppelin song...hmm.mm. My favourite bit is at 4.38 when Page transitions from the pentatonic major to the minor with that little D.11, G9, D11 etc lick and the little solo following. That sections got me since I first heard this song back in the early 70s. Anyway thanks for the video, you're a superstar.

    I'm actually really impressed and appreciative of your tutoring (pro gratis).Without doubt ,and I've spent many nights researching, your Page licks are pretty spot on. What a monumental task as Page was well known for his off the cuff impro, ok it's based around pentatonic licks and blues, but with timing etc etc etc goes far beyond giving him, his
    Original sound which shaped modern music in both UK and America. Any chance of doing some of Jimmy's highly inventory stuff of Song remains the same.❤

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my insights here. Yes, he used the pentatonic a lot when soloing, but many times he dives into richer in harmony. He’s a very clever player. I’d like to think that a lot of the special riffs and runs in solos that leave us baffled are from hours of experimentation as opposed to magically producing it first time. It’s magic either way, but I feel like Page worked very hard to craft his music.

    I have no idea why I'm doing it but as a drummer I'm now obsessed with learning blues/rock guitar to at least some form of performance level (which could well be an audience of one but it still counts as a level). Also cohabitating with a British Lit major only mine more or less worships Jimmy like a god. So that makes you my new guitar guru. Sorry in advance. Amazing skill at explaining it all in small bite sized bits, which is the only way in which I can learn things anyway. Cheers from Seattle.

    I love your instructive style, and your emphasis on WHY something works, and "why it's important to understand what you're playing"... however... you leave out perhaps the most important reason to understand what you're playing... THE reason LZ was even a band was because of those who came before. That opening lead riff was 100% stolen from Hubert Sumlin, Howling Wolf's guitarist, and one-time Willie Dixon guitarist.
    Those song is THE song that opened the door to blues for me; I read that JP (and many othe British musicians) was influenced by all the American Blues greats. That prompted me to seek out blues albums, which led me to Hubert Sumlin who was a monster guitarist, and who the Wolf once fired and would only re-hire him if he gave up using a pick.
    I loved Sumlin so much that the only time he was anywhere near my town, I was watching my toddler son, and didn't want to miss it, so I loaded up my son's wagon, and dragged him to the blues festival... 2 years old and he saw the great Hubert Sumlin with him blues junkie dad.
    ANYWAY.... I hope you think not only about the great music we listen to, but also HOW that music came to be... without the blues greats, there would be no Led Zeppelin.
    Top-notch work you're doing, I really enjoy it. Keep 'em comin'!!!
    Thanks again!!!

    • @EdA1
      @EdA1 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@SpedSpedding No not 24 frets. I should’ve made myself a little more clear. The pattern you’re playing on the 12th 14th and 16th frets over the one chord gets shifted up to the 17th 19th and 21st frets over the four chord… You can hear his finger fretting the 21st fret of the high E string… not criticizing, you’re playing great just coming from an old guy that’s been infatuated with Jimmy since I first saw Zeppelin in 72!

Without him Zeppelin wouldn't exist and would have never sounded the way it did.
