    For $250 they better give the bike a full detail and inspection jeez that's crazy especially for how easy that oil change was, thanks for video!

    • @lakaiskates8064
      @lakaiskates8064 Před 2 lety

      Detail no but that includes everything that the first service requires as per the owners manual, including a full inspection and your first chain clean/lube. I would recommend anyone who isn't mechanically inclined to take it to a shop for the first service at minimum.
      If you know nothing about motorcycles, they'll make sure you're not riding something that is gonna kill you/hurt the bike due to a simple mechanical issue. If anything is going to vibrate loose it's gonna be in that first 600miles.

    Do you put oil inside the new oil filter? You mentioned you put oil around the seal, didn't quite understand if you have to actually fill the inside as well. Aside from that thanks for the very detailed instuctions, never done one before so this helps a lot!

    I always let Honda do the maintenance inside the warranty period - i.e. first 12 months. If anything resurfaces later (which is not likely, but possible) they keep a record of what was done so you don't have to. On the first 600 mi (1,000 km) visit, Honda also does a once-over the bike besides the oil change - so it's worth paying 2.5% maintenance on a $10K machine.

    I wouldn't like to pay what you were quoted either but for peace of mind whilst under warranty I'll happily let them do it and have an invoice and service book to cover me should there ever be an issue, also when it comes time to sell potential buyers love to see service history from main dealers.

      For warranty purpose there is an issue doing work yourself even if you have receipts of parts bought. However while under warranty you can go to any licensed mechanic you trust, who gives receipts and who will surely charge you much much less than Honda for the same services. As long as the recommended items are done Honda cannot deny warranty claims in that case.

    For one reason or another, my oil filter becomes very dirty over the course of a year. It did also get onto other stuff that's close to the filter. The first time I found out (a year ago), did the oil+ filter change myself. Just now found out that the new filter is dirty and its surroundings are also dirty again... What causes this? I tightented the filter as it says in the manual so it didn't get too tight or too loose.

    • @gwot
      @gwot Před 3 lety +1

      you can't go by how a oil "looks" anymore. First oil change is shorter, aka break in oil change will possibly have shavings in the oil. Also, the oil suspends so many bad things in it that doesn't always look dark, which is why they also suggest an oil change every year regardless of milage, cuz oil degrades and become acidic.

  • @iamtheiceman
    @iamtheiceman Před 4 lety

    Brian - I I am curious why you need to change the washer on the drain plug bolt. It is made out of metal, and looked just fine to me. Does it absolutely need to be changed every oil change, and if so, why ?

    • @bmddlton
      @bmddlton  Před 4 lety +2

      IceMan Kent you could reuse it. The book says replace it, so I just went ahead and did it. The reason your supposed to replace it is mostly to prevent leaks, because after one use it has imperfects that could cause leaking. They sell reusable washers for less than $2 at AutoZone.

    • @bmddlton
      @bmddlton  Před 3 lety +2

      I actually traded it in for the 2021 Goldwing DCT. However, to answer your question, the transmission shares the same oil as the engine oil (why you HAVE to have the correct oil type), the coolant should be good for 6-8 years, and the dot 4 brake fluid is supposed to be good for 3 years 36k miles - but it’s a sealed system and I would not do it for maybe double that. Hopefully, this helps.

      I have no clue why everyone is committing that this voids the warranty (which is up in 9 days), because it doesn’t. There is nowhere in the manual that states you cannot perform maintenance. The only way it would impact your warranty would be using non approved oil or filter, or not preform the maintenance correctly which results in damage. If you bike has a catastrophic failure and the maintenance was correct, the burden is on Honda, not you.

    Your warranty will be void, plus when you sell the bike you won't be able to prove all the maintenance has been done correctly at the right intervals, Honda has just extended the warranty period to 6 years, providing you take the bike for service to an authorised dealer, I had a seal leak on mine and Honda replaced it free of charge. Also it is worth remembering that you tube is an international platform, where people from all over the world can watch your videos, in this particular case you are giving out the wrong advice based on EU Honda warranty policies.
    While you encourage your viewers to change the oil themselves, you should also emphasise the importance of disposing of the used oil correctly...
