  • There's nothing like playing a bit of jazz and blues on a Baroque organ. Their snappy reeds, crisp action and chiffy voicing make it almost too easy! Here's an improvised Blues in E-Flat in the style of Fats Waller showing off this little organ's possibilities.

    Oddly enough, this really worked. I had a professor in college who told me that if J.S. Bach had been alive today, he would have been a jazz musician!

    Just A W E S O M E ! Baroque Waller is Blues in a shade that is wonderfully unique - beyond psychedelic and utterly intoxicating. I love it! And your look at the end says it all: this organ sample set only starts to exist when it realises music like this. Pure genius, Fraser!

    You must have heard George Wright at some time; his version of “Honky-Tonk Train” on the mighty Wurlitzer comes to mind. This magnificent track just goes to show the type of instrument isn’t as important as knowing how to get the desired sound. The way you make that non-vibrato classical pipe organ sing the blues is inspiring! Bravissimo maestro!

    Somewhere back in the mists of time, an ABC radio presenter played some restored 78rpm recordings of Fats Waller playing the organ in his father's church. Naturally he was playing it in own his special way. Your magnificent performance here took me straight back to that recording. I could not stop tapping my foot. It was "toe tappin' good". I love your Hauptwerk setup. I have one based on a ancient and dying Galenti organ. I am hoping to make the pedal board into a stand alone midi device. I have some red midi keyboards like those "D Minor and more" uses and would like to build a case to hold three of them in a similar fashion to your black beauty. Mike in Oz.

      @FraserGartshore  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like a plan! Good luck building a new HW setup for yourself. I found using the Fatar keyboards with their own chassis supports made it much easier. Check out some of the earlier Hauptwerk Playlist videos - I go over all the bits and bobs needed.

    -so! I'm liking this very much! Nicely done, Frasier!
    But it makes wonder now - are there any suitable Hauptwerk versions of the Hammond organs? The draw bars would be a challenge - but I would think with the software a suitable Hammond console complete with slidable draw bars, leslie on-off, speed, etc. should be showing up at some point - should be able to sample each slide level, percussion, etc. - I could see where there might be some proprietary issues ...

    • @FraserGartshore
      @FraserGartshore  Před 3 lety

      There are midi solutions out there, nothing for Hauptwerk though. I will be demonstrating a Hammond one of these days - watch this space!

      @@FraserGartshore you betcha I'll be looking for that one! Can't wait to hear your incredible boogie style ramped thru a Hammond - I predict leslie havoc/heaven! Maybe take a quick pass thru "Green Onions" - playing the ostinato in 5ths in the pedals (a great aerobic work-out!) with multiple attendant variations - of your own, of course!
