In this video, my little brother and I paint his engine cover a burnt copper. In the light, the metallic flake looks unreal in person.
Products Used 🛠
Plastic Primer ▶︎ amzn.to/2cR6uyo
Plastic Paint ▶︎ amzn.to/2cVu2pf
Plastic Clear Coat ▶︎ amzn.to/2csXrRv
The order in which you paint the cover is like this;
Sand, Clean, Mask, Clean, Primer, Base Coat, Clear Coat, Enjoy
You can go with any colour you like, whether it be red, blue, white, or pink. As long as you use a plastic primer, and plastic paint, and then a plastic clear coat, you will be in the clear.
If you have any questions regarding the video, you know what to do. Thanks for watching!! :)

I love that you helped your little brother out with this job, even if it is a simple one. I wish I had a brother for this reason
I like how you emphasize prepping. It is a major key in what you are trying to accomplish. Great vid .
It really makes every difference in the world..
painting is 90% prep
It's so true, painting it pretty hard to screw up if you prep properly
Major Key Alert!
@@milanmastracci do I need heat resistance paint?
one other important tip is to always check the paints humidity numbers. it's very important. you don't want to paint when humidity is to high or if it's to cold. I won't paint if the humidity is over 50% and if it's below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. easy way to remember this is just remember 50/50.
You should use a plastic adhesion promoter underneath the primer. It will help the paint stick incredibly well.
Thanks for this example. I contacted a airbrush artist about a custom paint finish but now i know i want to do this myself.
That sure turned out perfect. Nice job.
Came out looking good, dude. I personally would of let the paint cure for longer before applying the clear coat, and then would of waited like 12 before touching it with my hands to avoid finger prints. But that's just the way I learned. Good work, Milan!
Holy that looks so beautiful
The best way to spray a plastic engine cover 👌 Superb finish 👌 looks amazing 👏
That colour totally pops under the engine bay and contrasts beautifully with the V-dub and displacement badges. Good work!
Thank you for this video! I followed the instructions and painted my car's engine cover two tone. It came out great!
Wow you just made the engine look so much better by painting one piece!! Good Job!!
Hello I just want to say thank you for helping me learn things about the si!! it really is helpful..now time to get to work on mines!!! Thank you
Watching u spray clear coat had my OCD killing me!!!!
Painting first coat should’ve been vertical then second horizontal or vice-versa ... make sure u start off the object n make a complete pass all the way across... just some tips on getting better coverage
Excellent video very easy to follow instructions. Finished product looks great!
Dope I'm doing my jeep hemi in cosmic blue color shift and painting the raised letters in mayan gold metallic then sticker bombing the center piece with nasal stickers and clear coating the whole thing hope it comes out nice lol
thats sick asf , def doing my golf like this
What if I'm satisfied with the color of my engine color but I want a high gloss clear? What preparations do I need to make before spraying clear on it?
msclecarcrzy same as he did with wiping with a light alcohol mix
Quarantine is not over so thank to you have a plan!!!!
Followed this tutorial. Painted mine purple 👌🏼
Great to hear! Thanks for the comment 👊
lol the last part whit you brother was the best
Just started watching , getting an accord Friday 😁
LOVE the color you chose!!
Thank you for making a step by step video, making it easy for amateurs to do this at home and save time and money.
nice that youre using respirator for most of the time :D
Dam man you made this shiz look easy!!! I’m gettin in this project next weekend for sure
I would also highly recommend you cover the entire thing with some kind of box to keep dust and crud in the air that will stick onto it while it dries in between coats. The finish in the end a bit more nice doesnt look too bad here as you are far away from treed and such that can get on.
Last time I was this early the iPhone still had a headphone jack
LOL
Fdd
Jonas Godwin LMAOOOOO
A headphone jack? That's crazy I can pick mine up by hand.
4:45 The paint you used is VHT heat resistant paint and the link you have is for something else
Wait would u need high temperature paint?
You're using VHT paint, so why post a link in products used for rustoleum plastic paint?
Very good. When you use spray paint.. each stroke should go PAST the piece... don't change direction while hovering over the piece, because where you change direction will get extra paint. The reason you're getting "tiger stripes" is because you're "spot" painting. Do looong strokes in each direction.
looks good did my eclipse and my sisters color matching the car but spray gun
Every once in a while i do need a good laugh, love your shop
Thanks for the vid. I'll probably do mine a dark metallic blue
Thanks for explaining it, you did an awesome job!!
Prep is everything, says the guy spraying it outside!
Feel free to donate so I can afford a paint booth 😉
Looks awesome. What kind of brand primer , paint and clear coat did you used?? Where to buy it?? How long keep great paint on the engine cover without any issues?? Thanks
I've got product links in the description box of the video :)
Thanks for the video, I wanted to paint my engine cover last weekend this helps (:
Paint your cover= 20+horse power
Putting another chopped sticker on will double that effect
fortis619 Setting your profile picture as a challenger... +840 horsepower.
fortis619 and paind your brake calipers 30 hp
fortis619
I guarantee u Used Plastic Dip on your Wheels. You kids today are Hilarious!
@fortis619 modifying car is not always about horse power, you know? It is people like you that makes car community toxic.
Not the greatest paint job, but for something that was spray bombed at home and in one day it looks damned good to me.
you know that your links for the products don't match what you actually used in the video which might have different end result for some people
the cover is polyethylene, I have a golf.
what paint are you using? not alot of things actually stick well to PE plastics.
Your videos are great, Keep them rolling!
Will do :)
I would mask the emblems before you start sanding and while youre sanding if you mess up the tape by scuffing it up with the sand paper just remask, because when he was demasking his emblems u can see where he scratched them with the sandpaper
what brand of paint did you use?
Look like u use that high heat paint not just the regular plastic paint in the link in ur description so did the high heat paint work with the plastic after a while
Color is sick mannnn. Liked it and will do it same
You are the best car CZcamsr!
this right here was very easy to follow good stuff man
Not that I own a car or am old enough to own a car but would you recommend using plastic dip to go over the emblems. Great video you have earnt a new subscriber!
Macca_Jaspar Using plasti-dip anywhere near the engine under the hood is risky and i wouldnt recommend it since plasti-dip has the potential to melt and ruin the area its on because of the hot engine temperatures. I'd stick to using engine enamel or other high temp resistant type of products.
Wait...does this work for blue paint?
What’s that tiny cone filter in the Make I’ve been looking for them?
Great video !!
Now thats good work kiddo looks sharp as hell great job!
hey buddy nice work, finally you have changed your back ground tune
Can you do this same process with the hoses as well?
great video bro. 1question: was the primer you used plastic primer or high temp engine primer?
He did say that he used high temp paint and primer. He probably should have made that more clear.
Would the same process if I wanted to do accents for my rims or is there other steps as well?
Can I use primer for my first coat then high temperature spray paint for my final?
Nice job 👌
What is the best paint marketing name for heat resistant to paint engine plastic rubber pips and other plastic surface parts like engine cover for example?
Would appreciate it if you advise please
Yes, that looks good. Nice job!
Awesome video
you deserve a lot more views man
Looks great
oh boy, is looks good!
i just want to paint my engine cover and fuse box cover my air filter cover the hose from the air filter to the throttle body a nice bright yellow color all those parts are hard plastic parts i'm tired of seeing them that black color i want to see the engine bay a bright yellow color can it be done and so i need a clear coat?
Good job guys👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
So do you need any special paint like heat resistant paint?
other than alcohol..can i just use a dish soap to remove the dust?
Great video
If I didn’t sand mine but used THV primer and then THV red color will mine b ok ? Or should i remove paint , sand and redo ?
Great vid! Question, when I bought my car engine cover was already painted. From the looks of it , it doesn't have primer. So, just wanna know how I can remove the paint?
Plz answer this question
Really nice job
Yes i've been waiting for this!
Thank you! Very informative videos
You can make one explaining how to paint a valve cover
Milan it would be a very good idea to sell this while you can . it has alot of milage on it and will be harder to sell as it increases. with the mods and rice u put into it you can get a decent amount of coin for it and buy another car. ik its for your bro but this car isnt old and wont last long . and with a new car u can make more vids
Great Job nice touch
Beautiful!
Hey sorry to bother you but an engine light came on on my golf, I reset it and it showed up around 250 miles later, code P0401, I know it probably just a carbon filled EGR but what tools altogether would I need for it? It's a 2005 mk 5 Golf and I need it quickly, I don't have time to get it done by a mechanic my nearest mechanics take days for an oil change, so any help would be appreciated thank you.
Milan, does it matter what kind of plastic primer, paint, and clear coat we use? or will they all work just as well
the amazon links you posted for the pains is for Rustoleum, is that the brand you used?
paints*
Looks great thanks for sharing.
Im new on paint so what type or brand paint should i use ??? And what u mean plastic paint ???
Very nice!!! Clean
Hey great video! Short and to the point!
You forgot to mention that in order for VHT paints to actually withstand the high temperature of your engine and to activate the hardness of the paint you have to bake the paint in an oven (not your kitchen oven because of the fumes that lets off in the house) or you can use a heat gun (which takes a long time) warm it up to 200° for 30 minutes, Otherwise the high temperature aspect of the paint does not work and it will start crinkling over time. You can however cure it after it's installed on the vehicle by using these steps.
Paint must be completely dry before curing
Run at idle for 10 minutes
Cool for 20 minutes
Run at idle for 20 minutes
Cool for 20 minute
Run under normal operating conditions for 30 minutes
Plus instead of using any old primer you really should be using VHT high heat primer and VHT high heat clear gloss.
Oh and if you really wanted to shine after the gloss coat do several gloss coats and then buff it out, man that thing will shine
I am Looking to do this to my 5.7 covers. But I'm looking for a very bright red is there any suggestions and what paint and Brent to get perhaps even a part number or paint code
LT11988 A high heat paint, for example caliper paint, you will find it in just about any auto or paint store.
I put 3 coats of primer. How long after you put the primer n dry did you put the color paint?
Hey I have a saggy headliner on my car that just happened over night. It's half of my golf that is saggy. How can I fix this?
Hi
What paint brand did you use for the primer and paint
Thanks
Great video Milan 👍👍
Hey quick question. How many coats of clear coat do we do and which paint brand do you recommend??
No need for clear coat. a heavier last coat can make it glossier but careful not to cause runs.
Don't you have a problem with heat from the engine bay causing any blistering etc?
iVlog they used high temp paint
What brand of paint should I use to paint my engine cover, I am not familiar the one describe in the link below... Should I use a high engine paint?
Hi, care to share the paint u used? What is the brand name of the metallic paint u use? Does it have to be high temp ?
