In this video, I show you how I paint my 4 piston brake calipers that are going on my Accord. This process isn’t difficult, it is just a bit time consuming as you’re painting, and waiting, painting and waiting.
I used a dremel, a wire wheel, and 180 grit sandpaper to get the caliper clean. I then used a high heat primer, followed up by my base coat. I let that dry, and then put on some brembo stickers that I picked up from eBay, and sealed it up with a high heat clear coat.
If you have any questions regarding the video, you know where to throw them!! Thanks for watching :)

@@Anthony-cc8bx do you wet sand it or dry sand it after the primer? Probably a dumb question but it’s my first time🤣
@@AssassinCZcams remember paint shops? They'll sand the primer and the clear coat
@@Anthony-cc8bx True, thanks for responding!
@AssassinCZcams Probably wayyy too late to be responding to this, but wet sand it!
Brembo or not, "fake" or not, this is still a solid guide (and a good job) to painting brakes.
Ehh, really laid it on a bit thick. Ideally you wouldn't hold the can that close.
except that the paint won't last.
Why not just put Honda or Acura on them?
No this is not a solid guide. If you want it to last you will disassemble the entire caliper and properly tape off everything. He got paint on the boots and didn't tape up the banjo bolt hole so paint is inside the caliper. I wouldn't let this ricer change my oil.
@@johnsumner2987 lmao so true
the broadcaster is showing you how to prep and paint, and he's sharing the specific paint brands, great finished product ... thanks for taking the time!
Not sure why there’s so many dislikes. This is the first video I’ve seen of someone doing it right all the way and taking them off the car completely to get full coverage. Looks great man!
Because it's quicker and easier to just brush paint with the calliper still on there. Also lasts longer than spray and is less costly while looking just as good
I love painting little stuff like this. It just makes things look better
Your commentary and overall presentation blows all other DIYers out of the water. The quality of your work is far more impressive than a lot of the videos with millions of views!!
It's a good idea to mask off the mating surfaces (where the caliper meets the mount) and properly mask off the rubber piston boots. Removing those Torx bolts first would have been a good idea too.
Great video! I'm glad someone mention how important it is to use high heat primer as brake gets very hot. Plus the paint will stick to the calipers much longer.
Love your passion for taking your time in doing it yourself plus doing it the best way possible well done man 💯
Good explanation, personally would have not sprayed the bolts/screws red though, leaving them with their existing metal finish would have been nicer.
He literally said that you can change the color of the bolts if you want to.
@@junior17medval That's literally not what he meant lol
Yep, mask the head and part of the thread and screw them part way in, also great place to use wire to hang them for painting properly.
@@junior17medval yea we know bud. Not the point
@@zodspeed original comment suggested that the unpainted screws/bolts would have been nicer. At 3:50 in the video he says to mask the parts you don’t want to paint. There are countless of videos of people who paint over them and people who cover them. That was the point of my original comment. I just think it was an extra step that the guy didn’t want to do and felt it looked better painted, so cry me river. Also I ain’t your bud, pal.
I like how these turned out! But I’ve been powder coating for 4 years now, and seeing how durable it can be I’d say once when I can upgrade to Brembo’s I’ll powder coat them 🔥
Great video only suggestion to others doing the same would be to also cover the 4 bolts visible on each side, just in case you need to rebuild calipers sometime in the future.
Nice job on the paint work. Masking was a little dodgy on the pistons but hopefully that doesn't effect the rubber seal over time. I'm about to replace the calipers on my 79 chevy pickup project vehicle. Going to be using basic free floating OEM replacements but will be painting them prior.
follow none of this and you should be good
When you do your calipers on the 79 chevy...don't forget the "brembo" stickers
You had me at “properly”. Then a sensible vid. Well done sir. Subbed
Great vid fella. I’m just about to paint my calipers so this was just the right time to watch. I was unsure what to clean the calipers with before painting but now I know. Thanks.
Really well explained, and you covered the areas I've had trouble with perfectly. You're good at this.
I thought you did a great job, they look awesome in red, sticker is a nice touch too.
Very clear , well spoken and ultimately informative thank you
nice job dude, Im in the process of a rebuild now and this solves my problem of not having an oven, probably wont paint over the pinch bolts and dust seals though. many thanks
Very impressive. The best “How To” paint your calipers on CZcams. 👍
That finish is AWESOME. Hell, just from you sanding it, it looked awesome.
But next time. PLEASE tape off the mating surfaces for the brackets and bolts and somehow the slide pin holes.
If you have a layer of paint between the caliper and its bracket, the bolts can loosen because the paint will compress and/or squeez to the outside.
Same goes for wheels too.
Don't make a mistake like I did.
I agree..more tape
..I cringed every time he sprayed. I pictured future clogs and stuck bolts with 100 layers of paint.other than that..I think they looked good.
Fantastic Job. By the look of the raw cleaned calipers, It appears to me you had them sand blasted also. Like I said, "Fantastic job" Love the sticker detailing. Thanks!
And dont handle the caliper without gloves on once its cleaned off ready for paint

Very well done!
I'm not a mechanical person BUT if I was this is what I would follow, great video and will be looking for more of your auto tips!
They look great! I would leave them how they are. I am not a fan of more than 2 colors, but if you paint the screws white it will look cheesy. At the very end though is what you like. Great vid!

Beautiful! You did an awesome job. I am glad I watched your video before I start the paint job. Spray clear coat after the sticker is applied.

Love the accord and you got the perfect rims for the car....Great video and instructions...best DIY video on CZcams on how to paint your own calipers
Hey, you did a fantastic job on those calibers. As far as painting the bolts go I'd leave them red just because that's how they look on a regular Brembo caliper. PS don't forget to take a small brush and paint the bolts that hold the brackets in for the break pads.
Great work bud, anyone hating on what you did/taught just might have some kind of misery in their life and just looking for random people to deflect it on. Keep up the good work I might apply this to my car one day and be confident enough to know I'm doing it the right way. Remember haters don't break you, they make you stronger.

This and ChrisFix's videos are the best tutorials on DIY auto content around. Although for my preference, I would have painted them separately and painted the bolts black....but that's my aesthetic.
Nice work man! I like how thorough you are both in execution and communication. I'd pull out the bolts and paint them white
Hi, just say thank's for this amazing tutorial easy and clear. Just wanted to ask if
Vinyls are able to withstand the temperature of the brakes? Un saludo from Spain :D
A better option is to get stencils made and actually paint the lettering on with high temp paint. It'll last much longer. Vinyl can't withstand heat very well, as it will crack and peel. There is some specialty vinyl that can stand higher temps, but paint is still a better option for longevity.
You make great videos man, hopefully soon your channel blows up you deserve it.
Thanks Rusty :)

I agree with Miguel! You did an awesome job and take pride in your work. The end product speaks for itself. And who really knows exactly how long the paint job and stickers will last (depending on the abuse of the driver).
It's not like you're trying to sell them as 'knock offs'. It's the fact that everyone's not born with the option to spend top dollar when they don't have that in their budget. Again, great job!
Great video man! I'm ready to paint my calipers now sure learned a lot appreciate it.
This is perfect!! I was going to pay my buddy $200 to paint my 98 LS400 4 piston front brake Calipers. Now I'm going to do this shit before installing them to my GS300. I'm going with Metallic Black with the Dark Grey "Lexus" vinyl on the Side. This is great DIY, thanks!!
you done a mistake! I work in Brembo company in Italy, and when the brake cakipers are painted, the holes where the bolt go on, are covered with properly stickers ti prevent that the paint doesnt go inside the holes.
Can confirm, those are stock brembos. Brembo 4 pots come stock on Sti's, porsche, BMW and a whole slew of other companies.
Painting my calipers but didn't know how to go about , thanks this helps a lot
Glad I could help!
Thats the best video i have seen for this process so far. thanks for your time and effort 👍
if you removed the allen bolts fromt he caliper and replaced them with chrome or stainless bolts it would have looked a hell of a lot sharper.
Great idea, remove high tensile steel and replace with hard stainless more likely to snap on brake components
Or atleast pick the heads out with an artist brush and black hammerite smooth.
you are fucking dumb user12345
harry balsaq Wanna explain why? if you can?
you can replace the factory bolts with an equivalent grade stainless bolt with no problem at all. id be willing to bet my life that even an ungraded bolt would hold up fine
where did these stickers come from and will they stand up to the high temp of braking?
Great video. Some people don’t realize some of these calipers are Brembos. Just upgraded from 2 piston to 4 piston calipers from autozone and they are Brembos.
Pillarbox Red, nice choice! I'm going for a black (body) white (alloys) and red (features) palette. A little cliché I know but it's the first time I've done anything like this on a car!
Wouldn’t the sticker burn with the heat of the braking system?
They're high temp stickers...well hopefully his are.
Now over five years later, did the paint ever start flaking off? How tough and long lasting was the finish? It'd be helpful to see what they look like now.
Considering how the calipers on the accord looked I’m wondering the same thing
That looks frickin AWESOME! Good job mate
On the video that you have on electrolysis for the removal on rust on these, you connected the battery charger leads up backwards. The negative goes on the side that connects to the parts, and the positive to the sacrificial steel. Also you need to use something like Arm and Hammer Wash Powder to improve the conductivity of the water.
Paint that 4 torx bolts black will look sweet
No. The first time you touch them with an alien key, the paint will chip. So they'll be chipped from day one. Buy anodized or use stainless.
@@patkawasaki it only does that when u have cheap bits
Personally I would've put vinyl sticker on when it was bare metal, then after painted red and it has dried I would peel the vinyl sticker off so you have brembo in bare shiny metal. I just wouldn't trust the sticker to withstand the heat.
If they are quality high temp decals for calipers, they'll be fine.
I would do the same, or you could peel it off now so the brembo logo would be in a slightly different shade of red
Yeah but now you have exposed metal that will rust.
He sprayed clear over the calipers with stickers on place. They aren't going anywhere
@@DoomFinger511 they are aluminium
July, 2023 and this is still the most raw & satisfying thing to watch! Lol
Great video with lots of good advice & tips. I don't know what all the razzing is about.
To properly lay primer & paint especially from a can, you first spray all the difficult to get at places This helps prevent paint can drips, run(s) and or a thick layer line(s), on the easy to see painted surface. Any of the aforementioned flaws, make even the best of looking paint jobs start to fall apart the closer you get to it.......
People giving this kid so much shit, granted he added a brembo sticker to a honda caliper; but half you pieces of shit drive some broken kia or don't have a license. Secondly; just had a company teach my crew and I some new ways to paint better/ help it last longer. To make that paint seal better, after you clean it off with brake cleaner, USE water. You don't want anything in between the cast metal/primer. Second, focus hard on priming every area. Any areas you miss dirt, grease, brake dust will get into and eventually ruin the paint & separate it from the cast (flaked paint.) Honestly not that bad of a job, but if you want the caliper to look a lot smoother, use a higher grit sandpaper.
Don't forget degreasant ^^
Well to be honest, I'm pretty sure those are the Brembo calipers off of an Acura, so the stickers make sense.
But some of us don't drive drive broke down Kia's and we've had a drivers license for decades it's just I'd rather be neck deep a good steak or some pussy instead of painting my brake calipers.. That's all
Tim Yeakel then why the fuck are you even watching this video?
Tim Yeakel You really are a fucking idiot. Thinking you're all hardcore on the internet for a bunch of people you have never and will never meet.
There are many videos online but yours is one of the best. Amazing!
Fantastic. To donit properly this is how its done. Not on car quick paint job missing everything. Great work
The stupidity in the comment section of this video is astounding. Brembo sells their brakes to car manufactures who put their own logo on the brakes. Just because it doesn’t say “Brembo” doesn’t mean they’re not actually made by Brembo.
When you see CTSV brakes on a 240 those are actually made by Brembo not by caddy or the brakes on a Ferrari are not made by Ferrari but usually Brembo, same with lambo, VW, Porsche, Honda, Ford etc.
philo lee thank you 99% of people here cant bother to make a little research before typing dumb ass comments.

Hello Millan nice video dude :) i did my break callipers on my bmw almost 2 months ago the same way but i used degreasing detergent before i started the peeling rust prosedure. At the end I got prety much the same result as you did and since i deal with a lot of stickers as a hobby i did the same thing i put a black ///M stiker and it looks awesome. What it hits me after everything was done was that it could of been made even better if before painting with the red color i did a little bit of black color just on the front than stick the stiker on top of it than start to paint everything in red color. That way at the end when you remove carefully the sticker it will show the black color below with the same effect but it will last longer just because the sticker can fell down after time ;) hope this gives you a nice idea that you can try and put in a new video.
the calibers look really nice....how long did it take altogether?

brembos just a brand, you just need to get bigger brakes OEM or aftermarket. I have seen newer cars that have standard 4 piston brakes with bigger rotors. there is nothing magical about brakes
+jgmacho the gold ones look nice. I have seen g37 with the 4 piston brakes but my g35 didnt come with them
+Carlos Orozco Craigslist and eBay or junkyards if you willing to pull from a wrecked car. I like gold calipers too but a more dark gold not that yellow gold shit
Brembos dont matter. All you want if you want a brake upgrade are more pistons for stopping power. I personally bought a oem option for my del sol and went with Nsx brake calipers in the front and thats a big brake upgrade and way cheaper than brembo and just as good or maybe better.
Although needless to say brembo brakes are nice
Amazing work! Thanks for sharing! It looks really nice!
Nice video! Thanks for taking the time to make and post it! I do have two things to add:
1. After the caliper is cleaned with brake cleaner, do not touch it again with bare hands until all the paint has been applied. Touching it with bare hands will put skin oils on the part or paint and subsequent coats will not adhere properly in those spots.
2. After three hours, the paint will be dry, but it will not be cured. There is a difference. The paint will not be chemical resistant until after it is cured. To cure the paint, bake the part in a 200 degree FAHRENHEIT (you'll have to convert to Celsius on your own) oven for 1 hour. This will bake the paint onto the part, harden it, and chemically cure the paint. If you read the label on the VVT spray can, this is what it will tell you to do. You may want to remove the piston seals beforehand, or leave them in. I've read of people doing it both ways. Your call on that point.
Is it unsafe to cure these in your household oven? Is there another option if you can't do the former?
@@chriss8354 Yes, you can safely cure PAINTED parts in your household oven. I let the parts dry for a couple of days to gas off, then oven cure them. I'll cure them in the oven, then turn off the oven with the parts still in it and let the parts slowly cure until they are cool to the touch. Takes a few hours. Powder coated parts, on the other hand, must NEVER, EVER under ANY circumstances be cured in any oven that will EVER be used to prepare food again! That stuff will poison the oven, and ultimately you! If you wish to powder coat parts, buy a cheap electric oven from the thrift store and use that exclusively for powder coated parts.
@@chriss8354 Your mom will be pissed because the oven will always smell like paint after that. The best way to do it without ruining the oven at your house is to have a shitty old Craigslist electrical oven you picked up for $20 in your garage to cure stuff in. Large parts that don't fit in there either need a drying kiln like you'd see in a professional paint/powdercoat shop, or just use 2K paint with a separate hardener (or maybe some UV cure stuff with a UV lamp)
@2:57 he starts the cleaning process

The stock 4 pot brakes on Acuras are literally made by Brembo
You capitalised "properly" in the title but this is not properly. PROPERLY is splitting the calipers in half first to remove the bolts...
Man shut your lonely ass up
Agreed. For most bolts/hardware, it’s better to either polish them up & apply an anti-corrosion sealant or just buy new stainless steel hardware; b/c if the bare bolts do fit snug into the correct socket, as thin as those few layers of paint might be, you likely won’t be able to get the correct socket back on w/o scraping the paint right off. Even if the socket does happen to fit w/o scraping the paint off, the moment you apply a bunch of torque to get the bolts off or back on, all that force on the corners/edges of the bolt are gonna make the paint crack, chip, & start falling off anyway. So, it’s really just a waste of time.
Granted, in his case, those calipers use Torx bit bolts. So, I’ll give it to him that the paint on the top/outsides may not be affected by the Torx bit socket… BUT, he didn’t do anything to keep the paint from getting on the inside of the bolt. Which will either get scraped/chipped off right away or run the risk of stripping the inside corners if he can’t get the Torx socket seated properly. There are 2 easy ways he could’ve protected the Torx bits from getting any paint on the inside:
1. Stuff the inside w/ something soft like cotton, that can easily squeeze into all the corners.
or
2. Fill the inside of the Torx bit w/ something like grease, wax, clay, Vaseline, etc., & then just clean it out afterwards once the paint is dry.
#2 is my preferred method, but IMO, as a finished product, stainless hardware just looks better overall.
***Pro Tip***
If you are painting something that has fine details/edges (for example: raised or recessed lettering) & you want the lettering etc. to be in a diff. color, do the following:
1. Mask, Prep, & Prime as normal.
2. Use whichever color you’ve chosen for the detailed area or lettering first & apply a few coats as normal.
3. Once dry to the touch (or after 24 hours), go back & use either your finger or cotton swab to coat the lettering etc. w/ car wax. Lightly apply just enough, that when it dries, the color underneath doesn’t show through.
4. Now, spray a few coats of your 2nd color of paint evenly over the entire area.
5. Once it’s completely dry, use a soft towel & simply wipe off all the car wax. Any of the 2nd color of paint will effortlessly wipe clean off any part where you applied the car wax.
6. Once clean, you can go back & apply a clear coat if desired.
This is much much easier than trying to mask off complex edges or lettering, where the any amount of bleeding underneath would make the whole thing look like garbage.
Great video, very instructive and complete! Good looking accord too
Damn, you did a very good job. I will try this next. Thanks for the motivation ;)
