I took mine to the Grand Canyon and took pix that some think were taken with a DSLR or at least a large sensor point & shoot. I've used my 1020 to take almost every picture of electronic equipment on my w3afc.com web site. The pictures are so clear and sharp that I can zoom in and read part numbers on components that are barely visible when the pic is zoomed out. And then there's the Xenon flash. I have a little Vivitar slave flash that works great with the 1020 and the combo lets you take distance shots with the flash. Ok, so I just upgraded one of my spare 1020's (they're real cheap now) to Windows 10 Mobile. Everything, including messaging, works well and it's a bit faster than the Win 8.1, but I'm still ironing out a couple Bluetooth bugs. The phone works with our HP 8020 printer, but not with my U-Connect Mopar system. The Win 8.1 phone hooks up great with the U-Connect, but it doesn't know the new HP printer even exists. I have another 1020 coming tomorrow, and I'm going to use a little different approach to the upgrade on that one. I'll post all this on a tab on my web page in about a week to 10 days.

Glad this was helpful to you :) I still wouldn't recommend this phone now in 2020 as it would struggle trying to take good pictures indoors when there isn't a lot of light, so keep that in mind.
I miss this phone . It takes the best pictures among all the cameras i had till date. The storage space and software updates were limitations as years passed by.
I have 3 Lumia 1020's, in addition to my Pureview 808, N8, and my old N82. My original 1020 is a Rogers Canadian Telecom model with Nokia Denim (2015 build), and the other two are very recent purchases, a "factory refurbished" model, and a newer Chinese made version. The China version has a different feel, but it is actually pretty good. The two new ones are running different versions of Windows 10. I have Win 10 Anniversary (1607) on the China model, and Creator's update (1703, build 1868) on the refurbished one (also a Rogers build, BTW). I flashed and re-flashed the two new ones a half-dozen times in my quest to get everything working right, including messaging, voice-to-text, and so forth. Windows 10 Mobile on the Lumia 1020, in my opinion, results in slightly faster and better auto focus with the Lumia Camera program. Yes, you can have the real Lumia Camera on a Windows 10 build. The trouble is that the Lumia 1020, with its dual core 1.5 GHz ARM processor, takes several seconds or more to respond to various commands. Microsoft has slowly but surely stripped away the programs that I've come to love with the Windows 8.1 version, so I had to try Win 10 mobile. The switch, plus Windows 10's Developer's mode, opens up a whole new world for the venerable 1020, although before you try it, I would buy another 1020 online in case you don't like it. I've taken some outstanding photos in places like the Everglades and Hawaii with my Pureview 808 and my 1020. Almost all of the photos on my w3afc.com web page were taken with my original Win 8.1 Lumia 1020. However, I've been on a holy quest to find a faster phone with a camera that can compare, without switching to IOS or Android. I'm playing with the 950 series right now. But so far, this has been more difficult than finding the Holy Grail.
I had this phone back in the day. I like the super detailed images it got but the image color always had that yellowish tone to it. The thing I really hate is that it takes a while for it to be ready for capturing the next image, which means a lot of the moments might be missed. Another issue is the lack of HDR.
I agree with the weakpoints you mentioned. This is not the right phone to take quick snaps, although you can capture moving objects thanks to the Xenon flash, I feature I dearly miss on new phones. Can you image what this kind of sensor could do with advanced HDR features and a new processor? :)
Problem with this phone was that Nokia released it already with an outdated snapdragon CPU. I had this phone too, and I loved it. But the performance was bad. I also had the 930.

Hi there! Thanks for the amazing video! I just thought to mention that Lumia 1020 has a xenon flash in addition to the LED and it's really powerful. 43 megapixels cristal Carl Zeiss lenses and 4K stereo video and so many professional edition features with a variety of modular appliances including "learning, recognizing and I.A." linked technology fitting Lumia Denim. Graphical processing operating independent of main processor. Gorila glass display. Worldwide projection also independent of any destination specific software. Up to 60GB built in memory, voice control and wireless charging. And it's just a snippet because even besides the most powerful devices it uses about 20% of processing capacity when the new ones starts to freeze up. Why it was prohibited to continue to be manufactured? Why a 2012 smartphone bothers till today? I think anyone who handles one and really take a time to explore its potential could feel exactly what motivated me to comment here. Thanks again. You're not alone.
I've just ordered a Nokia Lumia 1020 refurbished on ebay. What can I expect when it comes to the camera?? I will mainly use the camera for nighttime photography in total dark scenes. Does it still have the original Nokia Pro Camera and Xenon flash?
@@AbdullaZaki That is because the 1020 has OIS 1.0 and the 950XL has OIS 2.0. It is so much better this time. That's why low light performance is so awesome.
I still have this phone , only I use for photos.. No 😭 whatsapp support.. And many camera apps are disabled ,I miss those app like blink, and one that with u can take group pic and then change faces,, with good one...I still love this phone ❤️
Did anyone else find their 1020 had horrible white balance? Mine would always tint my photos yellow. I remember the minimum focusing distance being horrible too so you couldn't scan QR codes. (edit, commented before I'd finished the video, glad to see you mentioned this).
Hi Abdulla, nice video. How is the video mode holding up compared with samsung or iphone? I purchased iphone 11 purely because amazing stabilisation of the image in video mode and ability to record with wide angle lens. I remember back in the days, on my n95 and even e7 the video quality was brilliant (for 2008 and 2011 respectfully). Also the sound was crispy. You did not commented on video capabilities on 1020 which for some users like me are crucial when it comes to mobile device. Good to see you back my friend. Regards, Tom.
Hi! For video, it doesn't hold up as well today as it did back in the day because software stabilization is completely missing and OIS can't do the job alone very well. Colours are nice but dynamic range is also a big weakness for video. If you were to use it with a gimbal you can still get very nice video out of it as long as you can keep light coming from the same direction. And audio is still excellent. Thank you :)
I still use Lumia 1020 for video recordings of rock concerts. I have over 900 videos on my channel, if you want to see and especially hear the sound quality. According to Nokia 1020 can tolerate sound levels up to 140 dB (C-weighted, that is, unweighted) so it is rare that sound is distorted. If somebody knows a new phone that can tolerate high bass levels, please let me know, as I fear 1020 does not have eternal life. The biggest problem with 1020 is that you can record only about 75 minutes with fully charged battery (however battery quality seems to be good as after 6 years it can still do that!). Further, there is no manual adjustment for exposure for video and thus brightly lit persons on black background tend to overexposure. Also missing is manual adjustment for color saturation that often is too high for color spotlights used in rock concerts. In dim lighting the video is quite noisy with full zoom. Luckily with Neat Video ad on for Adobe Premier Elements it is possible to filter it quite well without losing much details. Regarding stabilization, it works quite well except for maximum zoom that tend to have some shakiness if your hands tend to shake a bit. Naturally this can often be fixed with video editor. Extreme loud bass tends to shake the phone slightly too, making video occasionally bit blurry. Regarding quality of manufacturing, I have three 1020s and two of them have blurry focus when set to infinite in manual video mode. Both blurry ones are second hand ones, so I wonder if it is related with manufacturing tolerances, restoring factory settings or phone being hit too hard by somebody. The other second hand one has also microphone balance problem, the left microphone has only about half of the level the right microphone has.
I just upgraded one of my spare 1020's (they're real cheap now) to Windows 10 Mobile. Everything, including messaging, works well and it's a bit faster than the Win 8.1, but I'm still ironing out a couple Bluetooth bugs. The approach is to change the phone's registry so the Microsoft Store thinks it's a 950XL or some other qualified model. I just have a bug to work out. The phone works with our HP 8024 printer, but not with my U-Connect Mopar system.
I still have my 808, and my N8, and my N85. The N85 had painful little buttons for a keypad, but the camera was a leader at 5MP back when most others were sub 1MP.
One thing that is not mentioned here about the camera interface is the ability to use those same manual controls in the video-mode too! Such a useful feature! You can always change focus while capturing the video according to your liking and can keep it fixed.
@@AbdullaZaki yes I ve tried it 2 times already...and I know the appstore is gone..I was trying to sideload apps too but I ve got stuck on registering my phone to unlock developer mode... Maybe it is market dependent..and do u use build in camera app for that or some custom lumia? Thanks

Depends on the situation. Without a tripod In low light I use ISO 800, shutter speed 1/4. Make sure you keep your hands as steady as possible. If it's still too dark, keep increasing the ISO. If you have a tripod you can then try increasing the shutter speed and reducing the ISO as much as possible. In daylight I use auto most of the time. If you want manual, try to keep the ISO as low as possible and increase exposure if it's too dark. Best way to learn is to practice :)
Just search for a channel named "Will It Beat Nokia". Nope, the iPhone 11 and Samsung Note are not beating it. I can approve it myself, did side-by-side shots with the 11 Pro, this, a D700, D850 and Lumia 950XL. The 950XL is the overal winner, but the 1020 has some specialties. It has film-like grain and a slight softness without loosing detail, that make it very special. The D700 (full Frame DSLR) has no chance next to the 1020, and even the D850 is not always in the lead.

Nokia need to release this phone again with 2021 tech, put a 1" sensor in it.
Missing my Lumia phone.😥😥
:(
I’m still waiting for nokia 5.3 full review. Please upload the review ASAP.
Almost done
I miss my Lumia 630 😭 I'm still looking for Lumia phone in 2020 😐
They dont work properly because you cant download apps on them, unless you get a device with windows phone 10 :(
The best camera phone I ever used
Lumia 1020 ❤️🥰
My love 💯✨
Did anyone else find their 1020 had horrible white balance? Mine would always tint my photos yellow. I remember the minimum focusing distance being horrible too so you couldn't scan QR codes. (edit, commented before I'd finished the video, glad to see you mentioned this).
Design is still competitive..
Those were the years when windows Phone and Nokia were promising.
The Win 8.1 phone hooks up great with the U-Connect, but it doesn't know the new HP printer even exists. I have another 1020 coming tomorrow, and I'm going to use a little different approach to the upgrade on that one.
I'll post all this on a tab on my web page in about a week to 10 days.
hey there, nice video and lovely B-roll. keep it up ;)
Thank you! Will do! :)
I particularly love the lossless digital zoom of the video. Today's phones don't have this feature. They lose quality when you zoom in
It was so ahead of its time
The Note 20 Ultra has this feature.
Nokia 808 Purview No.1 😎
I still have my 808, and my N8, and my N85. The N85 had painful little buttons for a keypad, but the camera was a leader at 5MP back when most others were sub 1MP.
Very nice story
Thanks
One thing that is not mentioned here about the camera interface is the ability to use those same manual controls in the video-mode too!
Such a useful feature! You can always change focus while capturing the video according to your liking and can keep it fixed.
Good point! Although the stabilization feels dated no compared to other phones. Quality is still good
Big fan of nokia 💖
You should compare it with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. There are so many cool similarities, including design cues they took from the 1020.
Hi what firmware have you got it on? I am on windows phone 8.1 and I cant even choose manual mode for photos or raw images on my lumia 1020 😣👍
I'm also on WP8.1.... Have you tried a factory reset? Just keep in mind that you will lose you apps.... the app store is offline now
@@AbdullaZaki yes I ve tried it 2 times already...and I know the appstore is gone..I was trying to sideload apps too but I ve got stuck on registering my phone to unlock developer mode...
Maybe it is market dependent..and do u use build in camera app for that or some custom lumia? Thanks
I use the built in Lumia camera. Did you try flashing a WP8.1 rom onto it ? I can't recall 100% but I think I did that to return the phone from windows phone 10 beta to a final build of wp8.1
@@AbdullaZaki i use build in too as there is no other option 😀 I cant even change resolution ... all I can do is change aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 and that is according to them my only option 😀
My nokia n8 has got much better build in option..and that wasnt even smartphone 😀
Last time I was flashing rom onto phone it got stuck in the boot loop and I was so pissed off I ve just gave up
There are 2 different applications. One is Nokia camera and one is Nokia pro camera. The 2nd one has all the options
😭😭😭 I miss it so much
😱😱😱😱photos great
Yesss
It's was and still is an amazing phone 👍
BTW. I'm not a photographer so what would be the best manual settings for the camera of Nokia 9 Pure View?
Depends on the situation. Without a tripod In low light I use ISO 800, shutter speed 1/4. Make sure you keep your hands as steady as possible. If it's still too dark, keep increasing the ISO. If you have a tripod you can then try increasing the shutter speed and reducing the ISO as much as possible.
In daylight I use auto most of the time. If you want manual, try to keep the ISO as low as possible and increase exposure if it's too dark.
Best way to learn is to practice :)
@@AbdullaZaki : thanks mate, really appreciate this 🙏😎👍
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has even more features.
I miss my 720,lost it because of my polish ex.
The 720 had great hardware and design.
Mu dad had this mobile and yes it's photos still on the laptop and pc we have he lost the mobile but i seriously miss the mobile
Still got my 920....design icon... I'm not getting rid of it !
Which color did you have? I still have my launch day yellow 920 and its hardware design still looks beautiful today!
It really does.... I got a white one. Would love HMD to put a new one out with modern internals....
@@davegillespie3948 that would be a dream for me :)
Great video i subscribe
Thank you :)
@@AbdullaZaki your most welcome..

@@AbdullaZaki yep :)
❤️😊its awesome
i love windows and nokia phones
Welcome to my channel, you are in the right place :)
Thanks for the review. Should've compared with iPhone 11/ Samsung note 20 for better understanding
I cannot zoom during video with my lumia 1020. I don't have the pro camera app
I've just ordered a Nokia Lumia 1020 refurbished on ebay. What can I expect when it comes to the camera?? I will mainly use the camera for nighttime photography in total dark scenes. Does it still have the original Nokia Pro Camera and Xenon flash?
Hi Matt, you can still capture great images in low light but I would recommend getting a small tripod to make the most out of the camera in low light. It should come with Nokia pro camera and xenon flash
@@AbdullaZaki How do I get Nokia Pro Tools for the camera for the Nokia illumia 1020 and how do I find the on onscreen rings which you have different camera settings and which button activates the Xenon flash and which one activates the LED flash. Is your Lumia Windows 8.1 like mine? Many thanks 😇
@@mattk5020 if you don't have Nokia pro camera preinstalled then you should root a different firmware that will have it. I don't have a link but it shouldn't be hard to look for the way on Google, good luck!
@@AbdullaZaki Thanks very much for your help and really appreciate it. Does the Nokia Illumia 1020 have RAW on the camera?
@@mattk5020 no problem! Yes it does, and you can capture jpeg and RAW images at the same time
I loved my Nokia 808 Pureview. Apple cameras feel like crap to me after carrying the Nokia phones.
Hi, Mr Nokia. I am too a Nokia fan. I have some question about Lumia phone. I have two Lumia phone 540 and 530. And from last some days, location or that GPS is not working suddenly. Could you please confirm me. Whether you are also getting such problem in your Lumia devices.
Where can I buy those cell phones? I'm interested in Nokia Lumia 830 or Microsoft Lumia 950XL
Wow I got this so long ago, replaced it with an Iphone because of Pokemon Go and ITUNES...ut now Iphone is not of my preference and I am undusting this old guy. Any videotips so I can learn the pro camera controls??

Hm, just wonder if it is worth buying one. My wife has a 950XL and the camera is also very good.
Would be great if you could install android and a recent google camera App onto it. So it could capture HDR+ and would have the "nightmode" where it can expose serveral minutes
I think that might ruin it. I would love to see Nokia making a remake of this though
@@AbdullaZaki I think it would greatly improve the quality because noise reduction and so on has improved by a far bit over time.
A remake would be also good but i like it to bring new software to old devices to do really nice things with them.
Because they can way more than you think. They are just limited by old/bad software. Especially the camera.
Only problem on my 1020 i dont know how to upload videos or pics. Can you help how?
where do you want to upload your things to?

The store if offline. You cant download any apps officially.
I know I'm late
HOWEVER :
I LIVE IN THE BAHAMAS and had the yellow Lumia 1020 (ordered it online)

are leaning more and more toward the Windows phone style interface anyone else notice that 🤔🤔🤔
Hello since you have L920 and L1020
I need your help please to buy one of them .
Witch one is better in battery ?
Witch one has less heat issues ?
Witch one is better in sounds and Music ?
Witch one is comfortable in hands ?
( I am currently a Nokia N8 user and I want to switch to one of them )
Bro Can you still use the Windows Store on your phone? Is it possible to download apps from it? Does downloading work without problems? That's why I heard that Windows has discontinued their mobile platforms.
Unfortunately the app store is now offline :(
I am still using it for the camera.
Might I ask, if you have any issues? For example, on mine, I can't seem to save DNG files.
Hi! I don't have an issues with it to be honest. Maybe try resetting ? The problem is that the app store no longer works... So you might lose your apps if you still use it as your main phone
