Sliced Right Through this Spalted Maple Log with my Chainsaw!

There are so many woodworking opportunities with the live edge Spalted maple slabs! Shelves, charcuterie boards, cutting boards, signs, cribbage boards, table runners….what else can you think of?! Spalted maple is one of my absolute favorites to use in my woodworking projects. It’s so unique and the spalting provides a nice contrast to the creamy colored maple wood.

I used an alaskan mill for the last cut because the angle brackets that were holding the log on my Logosol were in the way. The G777 small log mill is a great entry level alaskan mill, but it’s also a great mill to have no matter where you are at in the chainsaw milling game. Ripping chains are a must for chainsaw milling. You can use regular chains, but the cuts will be much slower, the surface will be extremely rust, and it will put a much larger load on your saw. ​⁠ sells the absolute BEST ripping chains you can buy.
