I have always been a pretty skinny guy, so I wanted to see if I could gain muscle and what would happen if i bulked for 6 months. Throughout my six months journey, I definitely made some mistakes during my bulking. I was trying to bulk up fast and gain muscle as quickly as possible, and I cover my bulking diet, my bulking workout plan and how to build muscle on your bulk. Hopefully you guys find my experience helpful and you can avoid my bulking mistakes when you try it yourself. Cheers!
Have a great week guys! Cheers.
My fitness coach told me this before we started my bulk: Muscle is pretty hard to gain, but relatively easy to maintain once you have it. So it's worth investing the time to focus 100% toward muscle gain for a while, even accepting the fat gain that comes along with it. You can strip off the fat later. Trust the bulk. Invest in building that solid base of muscle and strength now, so you can have it for the rest of your life.
Do you have insight into what maintenance looks like? How intense do continued training and eating have to be?
muscles are also easy to regain. so even if you fail to maintain them, as soon as you start working out again muscle memory kicks in and youre back to where you were in no time. basically bulking is never a bad idea.
No. The fat is completely useless it does not aid in gaining muscle you just want to be in a small 300 calorie surplus max to gain muscle
@@manintheshed9830 you can get away with cutting your volume in half and just focusing on eating enough protein
I totally agree with your coach. Gains take weeks and months to see, but only a workout every other week is enough to maintain it, heck even gain a little more
You look great at 161. Fuller chest, bigger arms, a 4 pack. Keep those habits up and just enjoy the process like you’re doing. Congrats!
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your bulk, man! 12 pounds is awesome! You killed it!
Going overboard and gaining too much fat is one of those things that almost every strong, muscular person has been through. Your brother's advice was great, too. We can keep the strength and lose the fat. It all works out in the end.
Way to go man, stay humble, put the work in, be consistent, and live like the kind of person you aspire to be, and your body will show it. No judgements here, except for excitement that you're on a healthy journey and gratitude for you sharing it with us!
Great job dude! I was one of the people who was critical of your previous video as being too short term, so it's really encouraging to see that you're also focusing on these longer term goals as well. Keep at it!
The flawless physique of other CZcamsrs you talk of is often backed up by years and years of working out, even if they took some downtime lately. They already have the foundation to built off of, so it's much easier for them - not just for their bodies but their minds as well. I think this is amazing progress.
Thank you! Always good to keep that in mind when the brain starts comparing.
And steroids.
Max is the man! Had a blast having him as my trainer when I was doing Copilot. Good to see you Max!
Yeah it seems really good. I want to do plyometric/improve my vertical jump, does copilot have anything like that?
This is amazing! Can’t wait to see both of you shredded in videos. Keep it up!
I started to notice I was gaining more fat than I’d like 3 months into my bulk and took two weeks off to re-evaluate. Now I’m back on. It’s really a learning process
Nice job!! Congrats on the consistency and good luck. I always look forward to the honest content. You. Got. This.
Fitness indeed is a life-long commitment. You're looking great at this stage itself & yes, please keep it up! There's no point of giving it up now! Congrats Dude!!
This is easily my favourite fitness channel. Keep it up! ❤
What an amazing video showing the true struggles and mindsets a person goes through when building new habits and exercises. This video is about exercise but it is even more than that, it shows what can be achieved in one area of life and how that can translate to other areas of life.
Man, I know what you’re going through as a skinny guy. It is hard as hell to gain muscle. 7 months in and I have very little to show for it, but I’m not stopping!
Update us man
It has to be your diet. Are you tracking your calories & macros? Are you gaining weight? If you’re not then you’re doing it wrong considering it’s been 7 months.
7 months 😮. Bro ik this is late reply and hopefully u fixed it but if not . Check ur weight and check ur maintainince calories and add 200 and check how much fat, carbs , proteins u need . Drink a gallon of water at least and train heavy not just doing reps
7 months is crazy, all i can tell you is your not eating enough. I weighed 123 at 6'0ft and in 4 months im at 160rn trying to reach 215 before i start cutting 🙌🏾
I went from 78kgs to 92/95kgs in just over 2 months, but I was eating about 3500 cals everyday. Was tough eating when you’re not hungry. But definitely worth it!
you should be proud to be that consistent! You are a beast dude! good job !
Such an incredible video on so many levels
bro i love the storytelling! it kept me engaged throughout the entire video
Ayyy love to hear it! Thank you!
You look so good man! Great work getting here!
Dude you are on the right path
You see it's almost impossible to gain muscle without gaining fat... You are in the middle of your journey... You should do a body recomposition your going to see results fast and hard
Your hard work is just covered with fat
when you said it's almost impossible to gain muscle without gaining fat i was gonna blurt out body recomp but then you actually did lmao
Body recomp is actually quite difficult to achieve
It's been shown that cutting/bulking is even better than a recomp. You get faster results that way but if you're bad at maintaining a cut and bulk cycle I wouldn't chose that path
you can actually eat at maintainance and providing your getting enough protein you can slowly add muscle and lose fat at same time with regular cardio. I know because I've done it, have also gotten stronger through a cut/maintain phase. it's possible
What is a body recomposition?
Make this video again once you hit one year. That would be a banger
Only thing I'll say is the reason most people don't have a high appetite is because they are not training hard enough at the gym. If you stimulate your body/Muscle hard enough you will want all that food. Just one man's opinion. Keep it up.
He is talking about changing habits, which is the right approach but still gets frustrated when he doesn´t get quick results. People need to realise that 6 months is a short time to change your physique and even when you make progress it´s difficult to notice it because it´s so miniscule from day to day.
It can be hard not to get impatient when you’re working towards something.
What I learned from this is that Maintenance is needed after doing Bulking Cycles. Maintenance is taking a break from Bulking and letting the Body Adjust also to not Gain too much Weight.
I also want to say my Appreciation for this is a great example for me to Learn to that its a Real Life Application of all the Articles I read.
I am Starting to do my First Bulk and its true that taking your Calories Surplus daily feels like a bit too much for me to take 😅. With you sharing your Journey at least I can have an Assurance that I will get used to it and eventually get sick of it then Adjust myself again.
I want to thank you again and on stand by for your new Goals to set.
Keep it up man. Imagine where you could be in 2 years
The editing is really good
You killed it dude
Me again from the notorious comments on the last video.
Just wanted to say well done on the consistency, building healthy habits is the most important thing.
Keep up with the inspiring content!
Lol thanks mate!
Great job! Congratulations
Great video!
bro that's an amazing bulk result, be proud of urself, u look greater now!!!
Thank you so much!
Look at how much your POSTURE changed! Likely a major benefit from all the training providing a stronger core as well as loosening your hips and spine up by being more active and less sedentary.
I actually didn’t even notice that until you mentioned it!
Keep it up man you're right at the threshold
I’m still going!!
We all make mistakes but that's what makes us stronger second time around!
Great progress! You can tell you have put on a good amount of muscle, keep it up bro
Thank you!!
Great job looking terrific
Good for you bro!
Thank you!
Looking great dude!!!
Thank you!!
Congrats! I definitely saw the triceps coming in. It takes a long time to learn how to gauge food. My first bulk I looked similar to how you did. Just keep the long road in mind. I put on close to 40lbs since I started lifting with ups and downs.
Sheeesh, 40 lbs is amazing! Congrats mate!
@@GoalGuys much appreciated 😁
Just find a habit of working out that you enjoy. I stumbled into being ripped without really even trying, just cause I always enjoyed unconsciously going out and doing what I was doing
Thanks for this video, useful.
BF wise, I was at where you were at your fattest 3 months ago, and am now back to where you ended with a little more muscle.
I am now conflicted. I want more strength gains, but I don't want to get fatter. This is the biggest I feel comfortable. I think that means I need to cut for a couple of months, then spend summer maintaining & doing the outdoor cardio I enjoy, and start a prolonged bulk in the autumn.
Good job!
Don’t give up bruv 👍
Pretty good results bro. Do a lean bulk till October then cut for Christmas, you’ll be jacked
Could we see some strength comparison on your lifts before and after?
Great job! Keep goign!
Thank you
love laxcitys music in the background! I'm surprised you've edited that in
Good ear!!
Noob gains are a real thing congrats!
At first I wasn't sure why a quality vid like this has no likes, and then i realized that im early for once!
Oh boy, Coach Greg is gonna love to make a video on this when he watch it
Haha that would be amazing!
Unrelated to fitness, but your living room looks great, Cam!
Haha thank you! I can’t take much credit though, my wife is mostly to thank for that!
you should do 6 month/ yearly updates
Great video and nice use of sponsorship. Seriously I am generally interested in the sponsor based on the results shown. Nice work!
Thanks Joe!
I'm kind of curious how you knew your maintenance calories were 2600? Did you use a generic calculator, or something personal based on tracking like Macrofactor? I think it's quite possible that your actual maintenance is something like 2300, and you were just bulking a little too aggressively. There's a huge variance among people with similar height/weight in what their actual maintenance is.
That said, we've all been there. I bulked from 180 to 255 before realizing I was too fat. Now I'm back down around 200 and kind of regret that I had to spend over a year cutting, but also realize it was a mistake I had to make to understand that I probably shouldn't do that. I had the exact same experience with just not realizing how fat I was getting until I was way past a point that I was comfortable with in hindsight.
But great job on the consistency. That definitely means there's a solid base of muscle in there that you'll see once you cut down!
Yeah 2600 seems too high for someone his size. I'd estimate him to be maintaining at around 2200 calories.
Consuming 500 calories above maintenance is also too aggressive if your goal is to gain lean muscle. 200 - 300 would be more suitable.
It's very plausible he's been eating 900 over his maintenance calories and therefore 600 over his bulking calories for 140 days, which would explain the weight gain.
Track calories for 2 weeks while eating the same and weighing yourself daily. Take the average of those 2 weeks and compare. If your weight is the same, up calories by 250-500 calories. If you've lost weight up the calories even more. If you've gained weight, then stay at that amount of calories :) Simple and easy
Well, even if his maintenance was 2600 (which it could be), a 500 calorie surplus is A LOT.
The profile comparison is sexy. Congratulations!! What's the change in shirt size btw?
After 2 kids, I realized I gained the “Dadbod” I was around 23% body fat where prior to kids I was 13% body fat. So I began fasting and after 4 months was back at 13% body fat. Then in May of this year I started going to the gym, and I am happy to say I’m still improving my process. I took a liking to weight lifting and I’m at 19% body fat but with 6lbs more muscle. Only this past week I started tracking and learning macros so I believe this is all apart of the journey everyone who begins lifting encounters. Though I must say, I think you 0.8g of protein per pound to be the bare minimum of maintaining or growing muscle. I’m pretty much at 1.5g per lb of body weight. But only time will tell if my macros are on point.
Keep up the good work.
Great job too man!
Great progress. But I think whatever program or goals you have you should always be walking at least 30 minutes a day if not more. Human body needs low intensity cardio to function properly.
What should i do to bulk while in school because i only get one lunch a day
So a calorie deficient PLUS light cardio. Am i right?
Please make a video about the following 6 months
Awesome/ impressive video btw
I’ll probably post an update early in 2023
Dude i dont know if you read comments but that toe nail fungus can get cleared up with a fast for a lot of people. Mine cleared up after a 5 day fast from food and hasn't come back. Be sure too refeed correctly if you go for it. Great video btw you was very consistent with the bulk.
Yeah, we all bulk too far, lol. In 2020, after 5 years as a gym rat, I finally was taught bulking and cutting, I went from a large to a XXL in just under a month (as well as going from 6’4.5 to 6’6). But, I didn’t look great. In fact, I looked like a rugby player who showed up at camp 15lbs under that was put on a diet of mass gainer and potatoes, lol. But, over the past few years, I’ve kept up with it. I’ve slowly changed by body composition, staying at the same 265lbs, just losing fat and gaining muscle. And, this summer I went down to 17.5% BFP. I’m somewhere taller than 6’7 and my lowest safe BFP is 15%, so I was pretty close. It just takes time and dedication.
Would love an update on the cut!
Would love to see the strength gains bro
It’s all about the journey 👍
Yessir!
I watched this video to see strength improvements so.... how much stronger did you get on bench squat and deadlift?
Wow you look great
Losing weight is easier than putting on muscle.
He bulked uo a lot but once he cuts hopefully he'll some of that hard earned muscle.
That’s the hope!!
My experience bulking is 10x harder than cutting
Maybe I got it wrong, but shouldn’t have the coach noticed that it wasn’t going well? Meaning that the weight was going up way to fast?
Honestly, it was on me. We had a plan to gain a 2-3lbs per month. And I got carried away in the last 2 months. Max and I would go over my workouts, but only I was seeing how much I was gaining.
Fuck yeah dude in a year from now you will look even better also how fast does a year go by? pretty fast so dont sweat the small stuff your doing great
so do y'all hire an editor to edit your videos or did y'all learn after effects by yourself?
We’ve just started outsourcing some of the assembly editing to an editor, but all the detail editing you see in the final is just us!
Last year i had a free summer and started working out for the first time and ate like CRAZY and gained 20 lbs of straight muscle (even seemed like i lost some fat too?? like i was stupidly cut for no reason) 160 -> 180lbs, but then college classes started back, i got broken up with, and i fell off. Now i'm trying to start up again as i've noticed i'm gaining fat for the first time in my life. My goal is to bulk up to about 210 (i'm at 185-190 rn, 6'3") and then cut back down to right above 200. Wish me luck o_0
Good luck mate!! Hope you achieve your goal!
Do you keep mewing? What are your results?
Focus on isolation movements more and you'll look better
I my self did a massive bulk too, i had maintaince calorie level off about 2700 and i ate everyday about 3500, ive gained 25/26 pounds now. (11,2 kilos for everyone but Americans). What i dont get is that your trainer focused on volume rather then intensity
That some solid progress for six months. You gained a lot of muscle in a short time. Keep it up!
The "Best Shape" literally means the shape of the body, how it looks and how it is perceived by others. Don't confuse this with being "the fittest and healthiest" you can be. Some of the fittest athletes in the world don't look like much, whereas some of the best to look at are often not fit or healthy.
Tyson Fury.
Why don't you try Greg doucette's meal plan. He's pretty popular and has great practical advice. Also he does response videos, which can help boost your channel!
You're just like my little brother in that you never wanted to ask your brother for advice :D
Super interesting video. Looks like you just overshot your calories during thr bulk quite a bit, your calorie target at the start seemed kinda high and if you were eating more than that during its not surprising you gained a bit extra bf%. But you cleaned it up well in the cut.
If you do another cycle just put your calorie target a bit lower, stick to it a bit better and you should ejd up with even better results!
Amazing exercises! These tips are super useful. Question for you... have you ever tried Next Level Diet? I got a muscle-building meal plan from them that's worked wonders for me.
Yessss
2:55 Relatable!
I‘m trying to start bulking rn but with the workout I have to get in around 4000 kcal to be in my 20% surplus.
Wish me luck
Good luck Sami!!
@@GoalGuys thank u bro. Love ur transformation btw.
Go dukes!
We all want to be the finished article because deep down we know time is finite. But the journey is the fun of it. You got a bit fat tbh but who cares, the hard part of the gym is going, all you have to do now is diall it in. Its interesting to see how the body reacts to surplus calories while working out.
Wow wtf a bulk that doesn’t look shredded and crazy after 6 months finally
Lol!
try kinobody movie star
2:59 this is soo fcking relatable ahhahaha
2600 seemed very high for maintenance..
3100!! That’s crazy
Tell your trainer Go Dukes for me
What's your height at 161lbs?
jesus... the dirty bulk is real
a gym bro was made today
Lol pretty much!
More basketball pls
Sheesh my guy
The steroid scene was so well done! 😂
I think you were eating too much carbs and sugar in the middle there. Anyway, I'm glad you upped the protein; you look much better. Your current diet deems to be working great. You just gotta continue this for a year and you'll look fantastic. I'm on month 4 right now.
Hey Goal Guy’s how about 30 days of taping your mouth shut when sleeping to see if it works or just a myth
Could be interesting!
