  • Dr Adel Bondok Anatomy Teaching Videos. It describes the muscles of respiration: the 3 layers of the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm.
    Development of the Diaphragm: 5 sources
    1. Septum transversum forms the central tendon.
    2. Cervical myotomes: 3rd, 4th & 5th invade septum transversum to form the muscle fibers.
    3. Pleuroperitoneal membrane forms the dorsolateral part.
    4. Dorsal mesentry of the esophagus forms the crura.
    5. Mesenchyme of the chest wall forms the marginal part; costal origin.

    Sir diaphragm develops either from septum transversum or cervical somites???

      @@AdelBondok I had an exam of BCQs (best choice questions) in which both options were present... which one to go with? Which is most appropriate? I'm confused regarding this.... 😕

      Go for cervical somites (myotomes) which explain the innervation by the phrenic nerve. Other sources include septum transversum, pleuroperitoneal membrane and chest wall (peripheral margin)
