    i had an RC-10 when i was a kid, and i believe that it's still in a box somewhere. i had a lot of fun with that car. i might fix it up and get it going again eventually. my son would have a blast with it when he gets older.

      that was the first radio control car that I beat just because the guy couldn't keep it on the track he was so much faster than me. I had a sears lobo. That total hopper blew that thing away but he just couldn't drive.

    Love to see the Gold Pans in action. I broke out my old CE I got in 1990 I hope to race it in a vintage class soon. That is a super easy track though. I would like to have seen them hit some nice sized jumps and maybe a nice triple.

    • @BJETNT
      @BJETNT Před 4 lety

      I know right that track is so easy it hurts It's like racing on carpet compared to what I grew up on in Alaska.You could run that track with many pins where we needed big knobbies just to get any traction. I would love to run a vintage class like this but I did not like that gold pan I prefer my graphite.

    • @BJETNT
      @BJETNT Před 4 lety +8

      Only nine turn motorized remember back then was the Trinity nine turn nuclear assault!! I did the same exact thing you did when I got the stealth transmission.Nowadays a 15 turn will easily outrun the old nine turns. It amazes me how fast these cars are now. Electric used to not touch gas and now it's the other way around

    • @brandonbentley5453
      @brandonbentley5453 Před 2 lety

      @@BJETNT I grew up with the gold pan and its near and dear to me. But once I got into nitro(8th scale buggy I still run today) my electric paled. But now electric is faster yes and no. On a tight track where you need instant Pop after a corner to clear a big jump nitro is king still and electric still struggles. Electric and nitro really shouldn't be compared because both still have pros and cons...

      I bought an original in 88. And in 89 bought a graphite chassis mid engine conversion kit from a little business in California. I ordered it COD cash to the UPS driver. $90. I sold my GT Performer freestyle bike to fund my ongoing racing habit. Then I moved on to an Ultima in 1990 selling the RC10 stuff in the window of the local hobby shop. Sold the whole rc10 and mid kit for like $100 which was ok back then for a used race car. Good times. Wish I had all that back. It was excellent quality. And FAST with my Trinity motor, Sanyo battery and Novak ESC.

    First off awesome driving by the way but there's Nothing like the old 30 year old RC10, i have one myself and love it, and will never ever get rid of it. Kept all the original internals and replaced it all with today's radios, speed controller and newer battery, Better motor to, just didn't go with a brush-less motor or lipo battery as i don't think the 30 year old gear box could handle that amount of torc going into it. by far one of the best vintage RC cars out there. Still would love to get my hands on a toyota hilux from tamiya with the metal frame lief springs and the 3 speed shifting gear box. But there stupid expensive and really hard to find.

    I would like to know how vintage they have to be I've got a tricked out RC10 original but I've got the A&l trailing arm conversion with a stealth transmission with 64 pitch gears. I wonder if I would still qualify for the vintage class? I grew up racing off road in Alaska this track is like racing on carpet compared to what we did.

    • @512kjt
      @512kjt Před 4 lety

      If it's a gold tub, it's vintage.

    • @BJETNT
      @BJETNT Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah mine's not a gold tub it's about the same as the championship Edition which I think came out a year later. I never liked the gold tub. I prefer the graphite. Mine I think was the world's or Championship Edition. It originally came with 32-pitch transmission but I got a stealth for it as soon as it came out. I'm just curious what they consider vintage class if it has to be the goal tub. I have the A and L trailing arm conversion on mine that has a fiberglass chassis with a graphite brakes on the top. Plus I have a totally vintage graphite World Edition it doesn't have anything after market on it except titanium kingpins and turnbuckles. It's a geometry in transmission Gering as all the other original rc10 so I don't see why I would be any different. But it just depends on what the rules are and what they expect. Besides nowadays it doesn't even have to be real vintage because they re-released the original rc10. Like I got a re-released javelin that is updated there was with newer parts. It was first real RC car. But the parts are stronger and it has hex head screws along with 48 pitch gears. Plus you can go belt drive or chain drive. I have a real original Kyosho Javelin and it's worth about 3 Grand because it is all original option house and Kyosho parts. The decals were over $100 and a body she was more like 200 LOL. I had hoped to give it to my son but he died and I was not able to. But I don't want to race at $3,000 shelf Queen. But I still like the car obviously. I wish I could find a way to figure out where all these races are I want to race my E-maxx and vintage rc10 but I don't know of any races around here in North Idaho and East Washington. Anyway I hope you're avoiding the virus my friend thanks for the info in the comment

    I just bought a vintage RC10. How can I tell the year of manufacture? Pretty sure its an A pan. It has the gold tub. Still has am receiver. Called the local hobby shop, guy there says its a shelf queen. I disagree. It can be built with modern parts and ran for fun. Can it not? With modern trans, battery, receiver, etc. it would be a comparable car to today's cars. He said when you wreck it it'll have to go on the shelf. I disagree there as well. There is a plethora of parts available for these cars. These cars dominated in the 80's and 90's. Pretty sure it'll be a good learning experience as well as a ton of fun. Again, how can I tell the year of mine??

    • @radiocontrolled9181
      @radiocontrolled9181 Před 4 lety

      Hi, did you run the RC10? My advice is to keep that vintage gem in pristine condition and by a cheap modern Tamiya kit, build it and drive it a lot to learn. Such as the Racing Fighter kit. Very affordable price, excellent DT-03 chassis with very good handling characteristics. Put in a brushless motor if you need more speed. I put a 3300kv in mine and it's pretty quick on 2s Lipo. Don't overdo it with the motor kv. I cannot answer your question because I never owned an RC10, sorry.

      Associated B4 bearinged wheels fit the front, with a small spacer on the spindle (or some shaving). And B3 rears, if you can get them. B4 rears have a different offset but will work if you space out the trailing links and spend $3 on HPIs pin to hex adapters.
      2.2 tires are usable, no need to get all technical.

    Tossing new electronics into an old chassis isn't classified as "vintage racing." I'd like to them toss an old-school ESC, brushed motor, and a 27mhz AM rx/tx in the car, then race it.

    • @Mr_jz_12
      @Mr_jz_12 Před 10 lety

      The "vintage" class is almost an entry level class. So having to buy original equipment would be costly making not many people want to race. I don't get the elitist attitudes of some people. I suppose you guys wouldn't accept re re's also?

    • @JohnnyGrey715
      @JohnnyGrey715 Před 10 lety +2

      What does elitism have to do with anything we're talking about? That's like getting an old car and sticking a modern engine with technological advancements in it and calling the overall thing "vintage." I just think to be a truly vintage race, hardware from that time period should be used.
      If it weren't for the RC10's re-release, the only way to have it would be to buy used or still have one from back then. The majority of the people who have RC10's (if not for the re-release) would also already have old school tech laying around.

    • @JohnnyGrey715
      @JohnnyGrey715 Před 10 lety +4

      Ret1173 A little off topic, but what I dislike about today's expensive lipo/brushless craze is the sheer power compared to the scale. Power that shreds tires and rips A-arms right off is just too much for me, and surpasses what I need to "have fun." and the price, lol.
      But I agree with what you're saying.
